The KeMU Medical Research Club was Officially Launched in June , 2023 at the school auditorium.
All the esteemed members were invited for this ceremony officiated by the Patron - Dr.Curtis Henry in the School Auditorium. Our panel of speakers included Sofia Mjeni ( KeMUMREC Research Trainer) , Dr.Nyabuto and Yvvette Selly. There were 30 KeMUMREC members at the time of the launch and 6 Steering Committee Members.
First of all, I really enjoyed the orientation meeting The speakers were varied and handled different topics My take home message was seeing that it's possible to engage in medicine out of the clinical aspect of it and learning how to go about the research process.
I particularly enjoyed Yvvette's presentation about her pads project and how they got nominated.

It was indeed a thoughtful initiative for FAMSA-SCOMER to organize this Research Training Event that brought together many research enthusiasts from across Africa to learn and grow This online engagement enabled us to interact and learn from medical research experts from around the globe One important lesson I learnt from this 3 week long training was how to objectively pursue qualitativ data in your research project as it provides you with a learnin opportunity!

Through my engagement with MSSR-KeMU CHAPTER and IPPNW STUDENTS Internationally, I've learned that collective action and collaboration are powerful tools for driving positive change By uniting our knowledge and efforts, we can create a stronger impact in promoting global health, peace, and social responsibility MSSR-KeMU has reinforced the idea that our individual contributions, no matter how small, can collectively make a sign n addressing pressing global challenges

KeMUMREC is Partnering with FAMSA-Standing Committee for Publications in KeMUMSA and MEDSAM (Medical Students Association of Maseno ) to give you a series of important online discussions on the research process , manuscripts writing and research publishing. The first of this session was on 12th of this month where he had presentations and discussions from Prof.Wanja Mwaura ( Researcher and senior lecturer Health Systems Management KeMU ) and Mr.Mohamed Onyango (Assistant Editor Journal of African Medical Students JAMS). The session was very informative and we had 20 KeMUMREC members attending!
We hope to see you in the subsequent sessions (17th and 26th Aug)
The 1st Edition of KeMUMREC Innovation Hub Series was done on 9th July , online There were 31 attendees in total and the Innovator of the Day was Mr Lennox Otieno, a 4th year student from St Paul's University
Lennox is the CEO of EcoBana Limited , an organization that manufactures Sanitary Towels from banana fibres and is the recipient of the 2022 HULT prize for Innovation of the Year Together with his group of entrepreneurs, they were nominated for the Hult Prize through Enactus Kenya - an organization that nurtured young medical Innovators in Kenya and an organization we plan on working with in the near future to help nurture Innovation in KeMUMREC
The message that I think resonated with me the most is on the numerous opportunities the field of research can give you and if you are consistent and passionate with research, it can be a gateway to numerous opportunities and also a potential career path one can follow
~Dorcas Bosibori ; MbChB Year 3
Innovation hub series was one of our most informative, and interactive session we had I'd say I learned that its never too late to start All one needs is courage, determination and most of all principles to bring their innovative ideas into life You could start small and believe in the small steps you take and who knows, you could be steering or running the next big project nationally or even world wide!
Ruth Masila , MbchB Year 4When Einstein mentioned that research is seeing what others have seen and thinking what nobody else has thought for sure KeMUMREC members didn't come to play! The various innovations stories shared by Selly (IAHW) and Lenox (ecobanar CEO) are a living proof. Not to mention the research journey by Dr Beautah & Dr Curtis and ways to navigate publishing (by Sofia) . The experience was epic!
Food for thought; What is research other than a blind date with knowledge?
