I’m happy to report that the hot, humid weather from July has finally lifted, and cooler temperatures are in the forecast for August. Prolonged heat, high humidity, and warm nights create ideal conditions for turf disease. We apply fungicides bi-weekly to manage this pressure, but unfortunately, we experienced some breakthrough on the fairways late in the heatwave. The start of fairway #3 was hit hardest, showing signs of summer patch and anthracnose. We responded quickly with a premium fungicide to stop further spread.

The cooler, drier weather combined with cultural practices should aid recovery I also plan to adjust our fungicide program for 2026 to better handle stretches of extreme weather Overall, greens and approaches remain healthy and are beginning to dry out During the heat, I increased plant growth regulator (PGR) rates to slow upward growth on greens. This is helping bentgrass outcompete poa annua, although daily rolling and PGR use have stressed some collars, which we’ll continue to repair through the season.

On a positive note, we began using a greens brush before mowing ahead of the Club Championship. This tool helps the grass stand upright for a cleaner cut and faster greens. We expect continued improvement into the fall. We'll also begin aerating and topdressing some surfaces in August to stay ahead of our September greens aeration.

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions. Here’s to a mild August and great late-season golf!

Thanks from the Grounds Department! Kayle Dellert, Superintendent
