Summer is full of so many nostalgic flavors to me. Beyond the icy popsicles and the faint char of backyard BBQs, there is a hint of a particular magic in dishes that taste purely of the season's bounty I remember those long, sundrenched afternoons, often spent near a garden where tomatoes, still green and firm, promised future ripeness but also offered an immediate, tangy delight There's something inherently stirring about that specific crunch, the slight tartness that cuts through a rich, creamy sauce Not just a meal; but a memory in the making, a simple pleasure that perfectly captured the lazy, joyful essence of those golden months For a taste of summer flavor, try the Crab Cakes with Fried Green Tomato from our new Summer Club Menu
Prepare 3 bowls: one with flour, one with eggs, and one with equal parts flour, panko and semolina.
Bread the tomato by coating it into flour, then egg and flour panko/semolina mixture.
Shallow fry the green tomato until golden brown on both sides.
Meanwhile make the remoulade, using an emulsion blender or food processor
Start with egg yolk and slowly add the oil, then add rest of ingredients until fully combined
Serve with the fried green tomato
Dear Member,
July has arrived and summer is in full swing The weather was challenging in June with over 4” of rain and several days in the triple digits. The golf course was busy hosting lots of great events including the Men’s Member Guest, Tuesday Night League, Black Eyed Susan Ladies Tournament, 90’s themed Couples Golf, PGA Junior League, Junior Golf Camp and the Ladies Par 3 Challenge. The calendar for July is also busy with the Red White & Blue Tournament, Parent Child Tournament, Ladies Wine & Nine, Founders Cup, July Couples Golf and the Junior Club Championship.
In other areas around the club, Camp Holly Hills began, which provides participants a fun variety of activities throughout the week including swim, golf, tennis and arts and crafts. Our first Summer Sizzle & Sounds concert series and cookout event on the back lawn was a big hit; the music was great, and the weather was perfect Wine Wednesdays and Kids Eat Free continue in July 90’s themed Adult Trivia Night, Summer Sizzle and Sounds on the Hilltop, Poolside Bingo, and National Ice Cream Day at the Pool are also on the calendar in July
The pool has been busy and our swim team, the Holly Hills Hurricanes, hosted their first home meet of the season in June. Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who helped prepare the pool for the meet It is a tremendous amount of work relocating furniture, removing the diving boards, setting up tents and getting the snacks and drinks ready which all gets undone when the meet is over. The pool was very busy for our first Sunday Funday and the music and cannon ball contest were great Our annual 4 of July Pool Party will be lots of fun and will include a DJ, games and a great buffet. Camp Holly Hills will be raising money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) on Thursday, July 10 to fund research, raise awareness and support families battling childhood cancer th th
We will be starting on the next round of golf course and irrigation improvements in August The scope of work for the next phase includes completing the irrigation and greenside bunkers on holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 tee.
markers forward to play holes as par 3’s when necessary A poster board will be in the lobby with details shortly
As our team continues to improve your experience at the club, I am asking for your help to make it even better by doing the following: Please be sure to register in the golf shop before heading on to the golf course; it is important for us to know who is on the course at all times. When using the practice range, please be sure you are wearing proper golf attire and be aware of those around you at all times Please display your bag tag in a prominent way to help our team when they are monitoring the tee When you are hitting your woods, always direct your shots to the longest section of the range down the right side. When enjoying the pool, always sign you and your guests in and follow all the rules and any special instructions from the lifeguard staff When you are done for the day, please clean up your area and throw your trash away.
As the heat builds and summer continues, remember to use sun block regularly and keep yourselves hydrated with plenty of water.
I look forward to seeing you around the club

Originally from Cecil County, Maryland, Sam Turner joined The Holly Hills Country Club Team in November 2023 as a server after relocating to Frederick Her dedication, leadership skills, and passion for exceptional service led to a promotion to Food and Beverage Supervisor in July 2024. In May 2025, Sam stepped into her current role as Service Manager In addition to leading the front-of-house team, she will also play a role in supporting the club’s marketing efforts Her commitment to excellence, team development, and creative collaboration makes her an invaluable part of our leadership team. In her spare time, Sam loves spending time at the beach.
I am so proud of our team for coming together and providing an outstanding course for the Men’s Invitational tournament! We have many new team members that have joined the Course and Grounds Department recently, and there has been so much training every day to get the details right. We are very lucky to have two great Assistant Superintendents, Susie Bowie, and Camilo Satizabal, who have worked hard to get the new team trained and the golf course conditions to a very high level.
All around the property, our team is busy trimming, weeding, mulching, mowing and keeping the flowers watered From the golf course to the main entrance, pool and tennis areas, we have many team members working to keep things looking nice The month of May brought us many rainy days that made it difficult to accomplish all our goals, but we have been able to work around the rain to create consistently good conditions. Heading into an undoubtedly hot and dry summer, it is nice to have good soil moisture, at least for now
As we are getting closer to warmer weather, our team will be out applying plant protectant products to our greens, tees and fairways Hot and humid conditions can cause many types of fungus and disease in our turf. We apply fungicides on all short grass playing areas approximately every 14 days to keep the turf protected and free of damaging pathogens Pythium, dollar spot, brown patch, anthracnose, and gray leaf spot are a few of the diseases for which we spray preventatively on the property. In addition to many spray applications, we are also getting ready for more regular irrigation cycles and hand watering routines We typically run our irrigation programs overnight, but also will be watering dry spots during the day with either sprinklers or hand watering small hot spots with a hose
We have noticed the golf course has been very busy on the nice days, so please help our team by fixing your pitch marks on the greens and filling your divots with divot sand Our divot filling party in late May was a huge success, so thank you to all who made it out for that event
I’m happy to report that the seed we filled the divots with has germinated and is growing nicely in the old divot areas
I hope to see you on the course soon.

As we move forward into the rest of the season, we’d like to highlight an important Local Rule that applies during all Club events and daily play on hole #9 We have internal out of bounds on the left hand side of hole 9. We implemented this rule for the safety of all golfers at the club Please be sure to check your rules sheet an check with the Professional Team should you have any questions Th local rule is listed below.
Model Local Rule A-4: When playin Hole #9, the left-hand boundary of th Hole #1 fairway defines an internal ou of bounds A ball is out of bounds if comes to rest fully beyond th leftmost edge of the Hole #1 fairwa This internal Out of Bounds applie only during the play of Hole # Penalty for Breach of Rule- 18.2: Strok and Distance

For your added convenience this summer, black towels will be placed in golfcartsforyouruseduringyourround.
