RUNNING LEGER

The running leger is probably the oldest and most widely used of all the sea angling rigs; easy to tie, able to be fi shed from both the shore and from boats, providing direct contact to the fi sh and the mainline, and able to be fi shed both static and rolling – or on the drift from a boat – it allows baits to be presented on the seabed for a wide variety of species. In this version a second hook length is added allowing two baits to be presented, with both still in direct contact to the mainline, providing excellent bite detection.

1. Tie the link clip to your mainline and clip a size 2 rolling swivel to the link clip. Then tie 100cm of 80lb rig body line to the other end of the swivel. 2. To the other end of the line slide on a 5mm bead followed by a size 2 interlock snap swivel and another 5mm bead. Tie the other end of the line to the second size two rolling swivel. 3. To the other end of the second swivel tie 12cm of 20lb hook length. Onto the other end of the hook length slide one 0.7mm crimp, followed by the size 6 rolling swivel and then the second 0.7mm crimp. Secure the crimps with pliers or a tool one third of the way along the hook length. 4. To the other end of the hook length tie a single Aberdeen hook (size 4-2 depending on species targeted, and bait used). 5. Returning to the swivel crimped to the hook length, now tie 27cm of second hook length to the remaining free eye of the swivel. Now tie the second size 2-4 Aberdeen hook to the end of the second hook length. 6. Attach your breakout, or rolling, sinker to the interlock snap swivel and you are ready to fi sh.
