AMBLE SEA ANGLING CLUB OPEN
Forty-four years after the first staging of the event, Amble Sea Angling Club, a club with fewer than 50 members, holds one of, if not the, biggest open club beach competition in the UK. It’s a remarkable achievement and one that shows no sign of diminishing if this year’s entry is any sign of how much esteem the event is held in by match anglers right across the country. is year the 44th competition attracted a massive 487 anglers from across the North East of England, and far beyond. e club has never had less than 450 competitors in 44 years, peaking at a staggering 900 some years ago. You can only congratulate the club and its committee on its continued success, and it shows that shore angling is very much alive in the North East. Cod, flounder and bass made up the bulk of catches over the course of this roving match.

RESULTS
One hundred and thirty-eight anglers weighed in with a total of 407 fish weighing 467lb 1oz. e match was won by K Smith with a total of 14 flounders weighing 11lb 6oz 2dr. e heaviest fish, a cod of 5lb 9oz 4dr was caught by A O’Neill. e heaviest flatfish was a flounder of 2lb 1oz caught by M McIntyre. e junior winner was Lee Nyberg with 2lb 13oz 6dr and the ladies’ winner was D Mather with a weight of 1lb14 6oz.
