About GNCFCU The Greater Niles Community Federal Credit Union was started in the early 1940’s as Kawneer Credit Union. Original membership was for employees of Kawneer in Niles. In 1984 we became The Greater Niles Community Federal Credit Union and at this time the charter was expanded to a community charter. Our current field of membership is anyone that lives, works, worships, goes to school or is part of an organization in the City of Niles, Niles Township or all of Cass County. Immediate family members (parents, grandparents, siblings, and spouses) are also eligible regardless of employment or residence. Once a person becomes a member they can remain a member regardless of residence or employment. Our total assets are just over Fifty million dollars, with membership at 4500. Greater Niles Community Federal Credit Union is a financial cooperative owned by its members. Each member has an opportunity to select our Board of Directors. We are a nonprofit organization, and derive our income from interest on loans, and interest earned from investments. This income is returned to members in the form of higher interest earned on deposits, and lower rates on loans. We consider our members our employers and owners. Our number one goal is to offer personal service that is superior to that offered by our competition.

Lawmaker says money will funds trail development, park improvements State Rep. Dave Pagel announces two projects in Berrien County will benefit from Natural Resources Trust Fund grants. Pagel, R-Oronoko Township, said Niles Township will receive $286,000 for the Indiana-Michigan River Valley Trail development. Another $300,000 will go toward improvements at Silver Beach County Park. "It is very encouraging to see state resources come back to Berrien County in the form of recreation improvements," Pagel said. "The residents of our communities spend a great deal of time on the trails and at county parks, and the improvements mean that more people can take advantage of the amazing natural resources that make Southwestern Michigan such a great place to live and play." Improvements to the trails include development of a four-mile, 10-foot-wide non-motorized trail from the Indiana state line to the Brandywine Creek Natural Preserve. Developments at Silver Beach include construction of a beach shelter and pier trail, playground updates, electrical upgrades, construction of a pier restroom and site furnishings. The improvements will most benefit anglers who fish off the pier. Designed as a sustainable funding source for public outdoor recreation projects throughout Michigan, the trust fund awarded more than $23 million in grants to communities during 2013. The trust fund began in 1976 to balance conservation management and oil and gas drilling on state-managed land. Since 1976, the trust fund has awarded more than $965 million in grants, including $14.2 million in Berrien County.
