TITANS

2016 SEASON REVIEW 2016 IN REVIEW

The Titans send Coach Rose out in style starting the year out with a bang! Phase one- the titans power through tough Lawton High with a great offensive performance. Next, the Titans out finesse two all-time rivals, Ada and Ardmore. Phase two of football season finds the Titans in district play. Our objective here is to improve with each game, win and earn a position in the playoff rounds. Claiming the District Champ title is always nice; however, it is not the ultimate goal. The Titan team rolled through district play until the boys from Bishop McGuiness saw it necessary to put a stop to the Titan momentum, handing them their first defeat of the season—placing the Titans in the runner-up slot in district standing. Now the phase that we work towards all summer and all year, playoffs, come in November and December Our mighty Titans kick off and rose to the top, by defending the Altus Bulldogs, in a hard-fought battle. Quarterfinals moved Titans and their fans to dreaded McAlester, where two years ago the Buffalos knocked the Titans out with one of the worst defeats ever. In this revenge match, the Titans prevailed defeating the Buffalos in a grand performance. The semifinals would then pair them with an all too familiar

opponent, Lawton MacArthur, who had crushed their dreams of another trophy not once but twice in the last two years. Posted about in the halls of the Carl Albert Fieldhouse you see POTD. Strangers have no clue what POTD means. Former players, cheerleaders, pom-pom girls, parents, to name a few, will tell you, it means Practice on Thanksgiving Day. If we practice on Thanksgiving Day, it means we made it to the final round of the playoffs!! Yes, we were practicing on Thanksgiving Day, we beat Lawton MacArthur and we were training for the bragging rights and the trophy game. Carl Albert Titans like winning Gold. Not only in athletics but also in Cheer, Pom, Chess, Academics, Band, Choir, Drama, we expect Gold in the Titan Nation. As luck would have it, our final game would be against no other than infamous Bishop McGuiness, the early loss in the season. Not only would it be the toughest game of the year, the weather was projected to be downright nasty. The theme for the day was “Bring it Back” (the Gold Ball). The Irish didn’t make it easy but that is exactly what the Titans did. At the end, when the buzzer sounded, the Titans were on top and they earned their 12th State Championship Title in Football, ten of those led by Coach Gary Rose and his band of brothers.

Director of Student Activities

As the tenth-largest school district in the state of Oklahoma, Mid-Del educates more than 14,300 students in 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, and our Career Academy. Additionally, we are the only school district in the state that has its own career tech center. Entering our 75th year, Mid-Del Public Schools has a lengthy tradition of excellence. Our students graduate as champions in their academic pursuits, athletic competitions, and in the fine arts. They cross the state, country, and world for college, enterprise, and military service. Wherever they go, however, they will always have the foundation that began here. We proudly serve several communities, including students from Midwest City, Del City, Forest Park, Valley Brook, Oklahoma City, and Choctaw. We are proud to meet the needs of the soldiers and civilian employees of Tinker Air Force Base, without which, our district would hardly exist. Our future is bright. It includes plans to upgrade our classrooms as well as our athletic and performance venues. As we prepare for our next 75 years, we want to ensure that every student has an opportunity to meet the challenges of his/her choosing with all the necessary preparation.

THIS IS CARL ALBERT MIDWEST CITY, OKLAHOMA

Midwest City, Oklahoma, is a vibrant community with a variety of amazing choices in shopping, dining, recreation and of course, hospitality. Plus, we offer one-of-a-kind special events! Located just outside of Oklahoma City, visitors to our community understand why we are the destination for families and event planners alike. Midwest City has recently become an affiliate member of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, this means that we are making a strong commitment from citizens, businesses, public officials and civic leaders to work together in continuing our effort to beautify our community. Midwest City is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 54,371, making it the eighth largest city in the state. The city has a total area of 24.6 square miles. Midwest City was founded in 1942 by Oklahoma businessman and builder W.P. “Bill” Atkinson. Atkinson learned of the United States Army’s desire to build a new airfield in the center of the country, the largest military base to ever be built, and knew central Oklahoma was the perfect location. He purchased thousands of acres of undeveloped land and began developing homes, schools, churches, parks, entertainment and shopping, creating a self-contained city for military personnel and the civilian work force. Almost simultaneously, Midwest Air Depot rose from the plains and all-important work began. During World War II, the Midwest City Douglas Aircraft Company Plant constructed more than half of the 10,000 C-47 Skytrain United States Army cargo planes. The plant cost $24 million to build and rolled out its first C-47s in March 1943. Some 38,000 Oklahomans worked at the plant, the majority of them

women. The plant closed on August 17, 1945, and was redesignated as Building 3001. On November 1, 1945, it was transferred to the Oklahoma City Air Technical Service Command and is now the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center. Midwest Air Depot was renamed in 1948 to Tinker Air Force Base to honor Major General Clarence Tinker, a member of Osage Nation, from Pawhuska, OK. He was the first American general to be killed on a mission in World War II as he was leading a flight of B-24’s Liberators near Wake Island. The new city gained national print and broadcast attention when it became a model for post-war community development. In 1951, Midwest City was honored as “America’s Model City.” Over the next several decades, Midwest City became home to countless service men and women as well as thriving business development with opportunities for employment and education, fulfilling the quality of life needs of the community. Midwest City’s Memorial Hospital opened in 1962 and Oscar Rose Junior College in 1970, followed by the General Motors Assembly Plant in 1979. Midwest City continues to grow, while paying homage to deep roots. Look for the Ponies on Parade, a series of artistic statues spread throughout Midwest City. These colorfully-painted replicas of Atkinson’s Shetland ponies each tell part of Midwest City’s unique story. Midwest City serves as the economic trade center for eastern Oklahoma County and is conveniently close to metropolitan area amenities. The city is alive with tourism, special events and substantial economic growth. It is a thriving community with a warm and friendly atmosphere and a ‘family first’ quality of life, and 75 years of riveting history!
