About the Peruvian horse THE PERUVIAN HORSE Webster’s dictionary defines “luxury” as “the use and enjoyment of the best, most precious things that offer the most physical comfort and satisfaction.” Luxury may be the single best word in the English language to describe the Peruvian Horse. There is something for everyone in this elegant animal: smooth riding comfort, high energy, strength, stamina, intelligence, a tractable disposition, animated, flashy presence and 100% natural action which sets the Peruvian apart from others. A BREED APART The Peruvian Horse transmits its unique smooth gait to its purebred foals. No artificial devices or special training aids are necessary to enable the horse to perform its specialty – a natural four-beat footfall of medium speed that provides a ride of incomparable smoothness and harmony of movement along with the utmost ground covering ability within one sequence of footfalls. This signature gait is called “paso llano,” and it is 100% unique to the Peruvian Horse. FLAIR AND ELEGANCE In addition to an easy gait, the Peruvian Horse has a brilliant front action movement typified by the upward lifting of the front legs combined with “termino”, an outward movement of the front legs similar to the loose rolling of a swimmer’s arms doing the crawl. Lift and termino are 100% natural, fluid, effortless and well integrated within the gait sequence. Of all of the traits that distinguish the Peruvian Horse, his tremendous “brio” is perhaps the most prized by both expert and novice horse people alike. Brio is an inherent quality of a noble and willing spirit that enables this tractable horse to perform with an exuberance that can only be described as thrilling. Brio gives the Peruvian Horse its willingness and ability to perform tirelessly for many hours in the service of his rider. A VERSATILE HORSE The Peruvian Horse is the world’s greatest riding horse. Smooth to ride, beautiful to behold and incredible brio – all traits that enable it to serve its rider in style. The Peruvian is more than a show horse. He was bred and raised to work hard and provide smooth reliable transportation. Peruvian Horses excel in many aspects of pleasure riding: trail, CTR, team penning, sidesaddle, drill teams, musical exercise, showing. CONFORMATION AND APPEARANCE Physically, the Peruvian Horse is a horse of medium size and with refinement. Ideal height is between 14 and 15 hands tall, with good balance and almost even ratios of girth, leg and back. He may be any color. The coat and skin are refined and the mane is long and abundant with fine, lustrous hair. Bone is refined but dense; in all aspects overall refinement, grace and elegance is desired. Stallions exhibit the powerful arched neck and crest of their Iberian ancestors. Peruvian Horse breeders pay scrupulous attention to genetics, with the three primary qualities being gait, soundness and disposition. TACK OF THE PERUVIAN HORSE The traditional tack of the Peruvian Horse has remained true to his heritage, but they may be ridden in any type of tack that fits properly. The headgear, saddle, stirrups and “guarniciones” (tailgear) used today in shows are the traditional equipment imported from Peru where it has evolved over hundreds of years. Although many people choose to show their horses in traditional tack, any style may be used. And of course, on the trail anything goes!

HLC Casanova comes from a line of Champions. His sire, *AHT Sol del Sol, placed high in Breeding Stallions at the National Show in Peru. His dam *AHT Jaranera was National Champion, Champion of Champions Breeding Mare, and Best Gaited Mare at the 2000 National Show in Scottsdale, Arizona. HLC Casanova has won numerous Championships including Best Gaited Horse. In his first year in bit in 2007 at the Las Vegas Show with three judges, he won 17 out of 18 first places. He was the winner with all three judges for the Gelding Stakes, the Luxury Gelding Champion, Champion of Champions, and Best Gaited Horse of Show.In 2010 he won National Luxury Gelding Champion and Champion of Champions. Even without his show record, the best thing about Casanova is that he is the ranch pet. Whenever he sees someone, he will come up to say hello and maybe get a cookie. About the clubs

The Central Coast Peruvian Horse Club - CCPHC was founded as a Calfornia non-profit coroporation dedicated to the promotion of the Peruvian Paso horse in the state. The club is active with trail rides, parades & two regional shows. They also sponsor a regional show in the late summer (2013 dates: July 19-22 2013) in Santa Barbara, CA. If you would like more information about the club, please write to us, or contact one of the club members here at the show. www.ccphc.net The Rio Grande Peruvian Horse Show - RGPHC was organized in 2001 and has attracted a varied and diverse membership. The principal purposes of the club are the responsible development and the enjoyment of the Peruvian horse. The clubs membership and its organizers have all subscribed to the idea that the singular qualities of the Peruvian horse should be properly appreciated in the larger horse world of the West. By joining together, the Clubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s members all feel they can contribute to the enhancement and celebration of the breed.

About Our Judges Our Rio Grande Peruvian Horse Club judge is Pedro Koechlin from Lima, Peru. Sr. Koechlin was first exposed to and impressed by Peruvian Horses at the age of 8, and purchased his first horse at age 13, beginning a lifetime of breeding and exhibiting. Setting records, Sr. Koechlin has been named Best Breeder & Best Exhibitor in Peru six times between 1990 & 2000. Judging for the Central Coast Peruvian Horse Club will be the esteemed Anibal Vazquez de las Casas (Jr), from Trujillo, Peru. Sr. Vazquez is the third generation of his family to be a judge & breeder of Peruvian Horses. He has judged in several countries - USA, Argentina, Guatemala & National shows in Panama, and the 2012 Peru National Show. He is currently serving on the BOD of the ANCPPCP.

Special event - freestyle reining Come enjoy a marvelous Horse show with music, lights, costumes, dancing, and amazing feats of horsemanship at the main arena, Saturday, June 22nd at approxmately 5:00 pm The Freestyle Reining Event was developed to showcase the Peruvian Horse at its finest. We are proud to have these exhibitors participated in a competition at this level to allow all of us to enjoy the versatility, showmanship, and athleticism of the Peruvian Horse. On December 21, 2012, LEA Apolo died from an antibiotic injection given by a veterinarian. His death was instantaneous. In the process, I fell and fractured my back. The whole situation was surrealistic in nature, requiring much time to heal emotionally and physically. My love for this horse was one of the greatest joys I have ever experienced. He was generous, kind, and willing. He and I could go into the ring and all I had to do was talk to him. He knew his stuff thanks to the wonderful training he had received from Roberto Quijandria at La Estancia Alegre when young. I rode him every day for the past year, rain or shine, just enjoying being in his company. I did not even need to hold onto his reins. I doubt if I even needed a bit to ride. He would respond by voice commands or by my thinking what I wanted. Every day he got groomed and spoiled with goodies. It was my absolute pleasure to have this horse as my friend and companion and part of my life for the past five years. So with that said, LEA Apolo will be honored this year at the 2013 Gold Rush Classic in Las Vegas. I will sponsor the â&#x20AC;&#x153;Ladies to Ride Classâ&#x20AC;? with beautiful handmade frames by the artist Linda Strong to deal with my grief and to cherish the memory of this very special horse. He and I won that event at one time, so it seems appropriate. My Dearest Apolo... May we always be connected in love and spirit. You were the love of my life and what made each day worth the effort.
