Welcome

We are delighted to be welcoming back both new and familar faces to the second Sir John Talbot’s School Whitchurch 10K.

Our first event was recognised by the national Running Awards, where we were

accredited with Gold for the best 10K in the West Midlands.

We are on our way to making this an annual event in the race calendar and would like to thank you for all your support.

Firstly though, the race has only been made possible by the

extensive list of local sponsors and supporters. Grocontintental are our main sponsor with Jane Smellie Opticians, DA Roberts Fuels, Leonard Brothers Veterinary Centre, Galaxy Computers, Bodytech, Hoya, Wenlock Spring, Colour Supplies, Tesco and Sainsburys all offering their support.

Also I would like to thank our volunteers who assist in making the event run smoothly and keeping all of our runners safe out on the roads.

This year we are again working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and hope to raise a significant amount to support this great charity.

On a personal level, I am proud to be part of the organisation committee to offer you this fantastic event. We have lots of runners in our local town so it is great to bring everyone together to take in the delightful sights of our market town. The Town centre, with its half-timbered buildings, bustling pubs and the imposing Georgian Grade 1 listed St Alkmund’s Church form part of the course. We hope there is a lot of cheering from local residents and townsfolk as you take on the route and who knows we might even have a new course record.

I wish you, our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, friends and families a fantastic day and hope to see you all again next year. As always though, I’d welcome your feedback on the event – good and constructive.

Competitors’ Information

Race Registration Located within the Sports Hall of Sir John Talbot’s School Leisure Centre.

Registration Desk The registration desk will be open from 8am to issue race numbers and timing chips, on the event day, and will close at 9:30am.

Please note entrants for the 10K run will not be accepted on the day.

Race Transfers No race transfers will be accepted on race day. Please note if you attempt to run under someone else’s name, you will be disqualified from the event and both you and the original named entrant will be disqualified from future events.

Race Day Emergency Contact Race Director: 0796 8410 067. Please note race queries will not be answered via email or facebook on the day of the race.

Race Number / Timing Chip Race numbers and timing chips will be allocated on race day. Please arrive in plenty of time to collect your race details. Numbers to be worn on the front.

Baggage Storage There will be a facility to store baggage during the race and can be dropped off at Race Registration before 9:40am on race day. A label detailing your race number will be attached to your bag to enable easy collection after the race.

Headphones Under UK Athletics rules these should not be worn for safety reasons.

Prize Giving All entrants who complete the 10K race will receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag immediately following the race. A prize giving ceremony will take place on the school field at 12:00 midday to present the fastest male and female category winners with their trophies and prize money, plus age category winners.

Parking

Please adhere to the parking allocations on the race day to ensure the smooth running of the event.

All participants will need to park, if arriving by car or motorcycle, at the Rugby Club, Sedgeford, Whitchurch SY13 1EX. This will also be the drop off venue, please do not park at any of the school car parks as you will be turned away which will delay parking and getting you to registration.

Local participants are encouraged to walk or cycle. Bike racks are available at the School adjacent to the all-weather pitch.

We must remind participants that all vehicles and cycles are left at your own risk. The Whitchurch 10K committee cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to any mode of transport.

Fun Run

Sunday 8th April 2018 @ 9am taking place on Sir John Talbot’s School Field children’s

Instructions for children and parents/guardians Upon arrival please sign in at the registration desk, in the sports hall, between 8am and 8:45am on the day.

Fun run races start at 9:00am in order of ascending age. Parents may run alongside, or preferably close behind very young children but not impeding the other children in the race. In all other categories parents are requested to support from the sidelines.

Children will be presented with a goody bag and medal once they are over the finish line and ‘funnelled’ to ensure they are safely reunited with parents / guardians.

There will be entertainment, including a bouncy castle and kids go-karting, on the field throughout the event for the whole family to enjoy.

Lost / found children should go to or be escorted to the Race HQ where their well being is catered for until they are reunited with you. Please familiarise yourself with its location and identify it to children in your care on the race day.

By 2020, nearly 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Macmillan provides services to support people with cancer and their loved ones from the moment they’re diagnosed, through their treatment and beyond.

In 2015 we spent a record £165.5 million on people affected by Cancer AND... we reached 5.8 million people affected by cancer, including more than 778,000 people who were supported by our professionals.

There are currently 39 Macmillan Services posts in Shropshire. They range from Macmillan GP’s, to Clinic Nurses Specialists, to Therapists, Support Managers andBenefit advisors. Some are in funding and others may be out of funding but still under-going Macmillan training.

This is to support the 17,000 people who are currently living with cancer here in Shropshire.We can’t provide all these services without events like the Whitchurch 10K – thank you to all of those who have supported this wonderful community event.

As a special reminder of the day all runners in the Sir John Talbot’s Whitchurch 10K race will receive a specially designed technical t-shirt and a medal upon completion of the race.

Sizes have been pre-ordered based upon your specifications at the time of registering for the race.
