Summer Math Institute I Our summer institute offers courses that will capture new readers, reinforce math skills, and highlight the use of creativity and ingenuity in science and math. Our goal is to help students create an academic blueprint of their own. Whatever path they may choose on their personal road to success we are here to help support them. Design 路Measurement 路Math Construction and art combine to create the imagery of numbers Students will explore all forms of art in the process of developing a unique math based project. Students will use basic measurement to complex geometry for the design portion of their project. The grade level of the student will determine the complexity of math that will be used. A daily progress journal will be required. Students must track their use of all math (measurement, shapes, formulas, etc.) Final projects will be displayed at our summer open house. Students may use drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital media for their projects. All materials will be provided by KMMI. Grades 6-12 Wednesday, 4-6 pm

Grade K-5: 2 hour Block Courses Our K-5 2 hour block offers students 1 hour of reading/activity time and 1hour of class time. Reading/activity time provides students with a unique opportunity to take part in math based creative activities or summer reading. We encourage reading as the best way to naturally increase vocabulary and comprehension skills. During class time students will engage in math lessons that reinforce concepts learned during the previous academic year and prepare students for the upcoming school year. Nuts n’ Bolts: Grades K-2 Wednesday 10–11 am, Class time 11–12 pm, Reading/Activity K-2 students will practice reading, writing, and arithmetic while exploring their creativity through math and science. Your little ones will delight in a wellrounded summer of imaginative learning, discovery, and fun. Bits n’ Bytes: Grades 3-5 Wednesday 10–11 am, Reading/Activity 11–12pm, Class time Students will gain bits and bytes of knowledge to boost their math know-how. Class time will focus on strengthening math skills while incorporating use of technology to enhance math concepts.

Grade 6-12: 2 hour Block Courses Our 6-12 2 hour block offers students 1 hour of class time and 1 hour of lab time. Lab time will provide students with an opportunity to work inn a hands on setting to apply the lesson of the day. Application of the class lesson will either be completed via worksheet, math program, statistical program, graphing calculator, or by project. On-site lab time will supplement in class lesson and replace outside homework.

Saxon - McDougal Mix : Grades 6-8 T, TH 430 – 630 pm A unique mix of traditional mathematics with spiraling mathematics. Students will receive a healthy mix of concept review to keep them on their toes and a strong foundation of traditional methodology while learning new math skills. Algebra 1: Grades 9-12 Summer Session I

Algebra 2: Grades 9-12 Summer Session II

T ,TH 3-5 pm M, TH 10-12 pm Topics covered: Expressions, equations, polynomials, creating equations, reasoning with equations and inequalities. Geometry Prep: Grades 10-12 M, TH 10-12 pm 1st semester geometry topics including angle measurements, triangles, intro to theorems and postulates, and proof writing.

KMMI’s very own inspirational hangout where music, book film and culture come together. The 8 Spot offers a unique interpretation of history and current events. Students will use reading materials in combination with research (film, news paper, online resources, etc.) to participate in topic based discussions and complete short writing assignments.
