04 AIR MATTER PARK DESIGN
Location: Sara D Roosevelt Park, NY Individual Work Work year: 2021
Inspired by Hans Ha cke and Thomas Sar ceno, this project wants to create a series of experiences with air through dif erent forms and materials of the architec ure. Each dealing with a dif er nt pers ctive and sen of air. The site is Sar D Ro sev lt park on the lower east side. This seri s of exp riments contain five build ngs, and thes five build ngs it along with e park.
02 34
The first one lets people get the sense of air through material. The building’s materials are glass, copper and concrete, as time goes by the air would change the color of the materials. The materials capture the moment of the air. The form of the building also reminds people of the flow of the air, as they walk into the building they can see the three materials.
33
The second one is a semi open pavilion, material used is fabric(Polyester) and metal mesh. The reason to choose these two materials is because they have totally different reactions to the air. When wind blows the fabric will change its shape while the mesh is still. People can see the different materials that react to air differently.
The third one is a lighter piece, four piece sculpture like mesh walls creating an open breathing space, people can climb up to the smaller mesh walls to get different feelings for the airspace.
34
The fourth one is dealing with the acoustic, how air can transmit sound. The building is kind of like a Swirl shape and metaphor of the wind eye, the material of the building is wood which can enhance the acoustic sound. So this building is a great place for performance where they perform at the top and people can enjoy the performance at ground level.
35
The final one trying to lift up the park, extend it into the sky as you walk on to the ramp. You can feel the air on another level and also on the top one there is a field of long grass that is waving with the air.

M o s t o f O v e r- t h e - R h i n e ' s o r n a t e brick buildings were built by German immigrants from 1865 to the 1880s. The architecture of Over-the-Rhine reflects the diverse styles of the late nineteenth century—simple vernacular, muted Greek Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne. Most of the buildings in Over-the-Rhine are one of these styles, but there are other odd balls as well. Art Deco is represented by the American Building on Central Parkway, the Germania Building at Twelfth and Walnut streets is ironically one of the few examples of German ornamentation in the neighborhood, Music Hall's mixture of styles is best described as Venetian Gothic, there are a handful of buildings with Gothic
