Here Comes The Bride

At an early age, it is instilled we grow up, get married and live happily ever after. This is one of the most important days of our lives. Americans by far spend a massive amount of money when planning weddings. Everything must be perfect, but it often is not. One thing for sure, the bride must be stunning. This will always be the most focused on part of the wedding; the dress!

Alex Fashion and Bridal located in the Lauer’s Building at 3300 Monroe Avenue, Suite 200 is a unique, sophisticated boutique where you will receive personal attention like no other. Owner Inna Zhezherya, brings 30 years of fashion experience to the table. She attended the Fashion Institute in Eastern Europe. After moving to the United States, Inna started with a small alteration business. The business recently expanded, adding a bridal shop. What a beautiful, comfortable place it is!

Inna’s store offers a full-service bridal shop, alterations, women’s clothing and bridal party dresses. Inna prides herself in finding “flattering fashions” for her customers. She feels providing gorgeous options along with quality and service is what makes her shop as one above the rest. She offers personalized services, so the customers don’t feel like they are

buying wedding dresses on an assembly line. Your wedding day is a day you will always remember so why not make it the best it can be?

Inna loves her decision to add the bridal portion to the store. She indicates her boutique offers a special service where the bride can choose her dress, but she also performs the alterations on site. Working directly with the brides, is Inna’s favorite part of the business. When coming into the store, the brides bring with them a unique energy and excitement which is contagious. Inna loves to show the brides dresses and often encourages them to try something they might not otherwise be interested in.

“I often find, Inna says, the bride doesn’t always choose what would look best on them. Think outside the box. It is interesting and sometimes challenging to encourage the ladies to have an open-mind”.

Many times, women are pleasantly surprised! They walk in with the attitude of “no ball gowns” and leave purchasing one, after experiencing the princess feeling after putting one on. Inna feels the goal of her business is to make a bride feel comfortable and to listen to her needs and concerns.

"I never played dress-up and I never doodled images of wedding dresses in my school notebooks. Instead, I sketched pictures of A-frame houses and longed to buy my own home. Even today, I spend more time in the home good sections of popular department stores than I do in the mall”.

because of her fight to become one), she wants to celebrate with everyone! Brigid indicates she learned the hard way “what is important in life” and she never wants to take anything for granted keeping perspective remembering not to get caught up in the small stuff.

Brigid notes her wedding is in 5 months, but she hasn’t spent much time thinking about color schemes, who’s wearing what and what brand her shoes are. She hasn’t picked a veil or even the flowers. The reason she says is that for once in her life she is truly happy. She learned the valuable lessons in life.

Brigid says: “I have met someone whom I love more than I knew possible. I thought

I knew myself, but I have learned so much more from this person. I have learned that asking for help or being helped doesn’t take away my independence; that teamwork is fundamental to the success of any relationship; and that with hard-work anything is possible”.

Choosing your wedding dress is the focal point of planning a wedding. Brigid points out for her, choosing the boutique she will buy her dress starts out with repour. Most important is making the customer feel welcome. Brigid said, “In reality, we are not choosing a dress, the dress will choose you”! You may have an idea of what you want, but that may not be what you end up with after trying on countless dresses. The dresses come

in all fashions long, short, with a train, lacy, silky or with extravagant beading. How can you choose just one?

The most alarming situation is the dresses are two sizes bigger than your normal size so don’t think you are getting fat (1). Don’t just focus on the overall look of the gown. You must be comfortable as you will be in the dress for several hours. So if you are a bride in the market for dresses, make sure you check out Alex Fashion and Bridal!

Always remember “You have to dance!” We always must remember we have to dance!

Finding the Perfect Wedding Tuxedo

Picking out a tuxedo for your wedding day doesn’t have to be difficult. The biggest challenge is that most men often don’t consider the type of tux they want until they walk into the store. But if you ask yourself a few questions ahead of time, you can make it a pretty easy process.

1. Tux or suit?

2. What style do I want?

3. Rent or purchase?

4. What color?

5. Should the groomsmen’s outfits differ from the groom?

TUX OR SUIT?

Talk to your fiancé about the formality of your wedding. A formal wedding almost always calls for the groom and groomsmen to wear tuxedos. However, for a semiformal wedding, a dark suit with an offwhite shirt is a popular choice, and khaki or light grey suits are often good choices for summer or destination weddings.

Which style is most appropriate?

For a traditional wedding, you’ll usually want to wear a dark tuxedo with a bow tie, suspenders or vest.

Tuxedos are available in black, navy, various shades of grey. If you’re going with a dark suit, wear it with a white or off-white shirt during the spring, fall, and winter months. A khaki or lighter color suit is acceptable during the summer months. For a formal wedding, you can never go wrong with a black tuxedo, white shirt, bow tie or neck tie, pocket square, and a vest.

RENT OR PURCHASE?

Estimate how many events where you might be able to wear the attire in the future to justify the purchase.

“The groom always smiles proudly because he's convinced he's accomplished something quite wonderful. The bride smiles because she's been able to convince him of it.”

If you don’t expect to wear it again within the next couple of years, it will save you money to rent instead of purchase.

Of course, if you opt to purchase your tux or suit, there’s no doubt that you’ll feel great in your attire, and that will show in your posture. Our only advice is that if you’re going to buy, make sure you that you go with something traditional, so that it will be in style for years to come.

However, remember that if you rent, you’ll most likely spend about a third to a half of the cost of buying a new suit or tux. This way, you also won’t feel obligated to wear it again, if your attire choice changes or goes out of style in the next few years.

WHAT COLOR SHOULD BE USED FOR THE VEST OR TIE?

• What color is the wedding dress? If it’s white, make sure you know if it’s white or off-white.

• What are our wedding colors for décor and flowers?

• What are the colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses? If you have a swatch of material, that’s best but if not, simply describe the dress manufacturer/retail and color.

If you’re considering deviating from the standard black and off-white, it’s important to have an idea of the wedding dress color as well as the color of any bridesmaid dresses.

“I can't explain why a bride buys her wedding dress, whereas a groom rents his tux."

HOW SHOULD THE GROOMSMEN TUXES DIFFER FROM THE GROOM?

While back in the day it was traditional for the wedding party to wear identical clothing, today it’s completely acceptable and practiced for the groom to differentiate himself. A couple of

ways to accomplish this is to wear a different colored vest and tie; or for a more subtle approach, wear a slightly different boutonnière. You can also help your guys accessorize by gifting them items such as cufflinks or ties.

Matthew McDermott, Vittorio Menswear & Tuxedo

“Whether you're tall and thin or short and husky — or anywhere in between — there's a perfect tuxedo out there for you. But, it should always match with the bride's dress."

GETTING YOU MINT FOR THE BIG DAY

Hello beautiful brides! Do you ever wonder what you need to know about getting your hair done for your big day? Well here it is, the need to know when going into a salon for your day.

1- FIND INSPIRATION PICTURES.

What is an inspiration picture? An inspiration picture will help you and your stylist find your perfect style. As we know, we all have different hair types, lengths, density, etc so each person will get an individualized style. Having a picture will help you speak to your stylist about certain styles as well as placement.

2- CONSIDER YOUR HAIR TYPE.

What is your hair type? Is it big and curly, short and straight, thick and coarse, long and fine… you get the picture! Can your hair hold a curl? If it can’t, you can look into braided updos. They give you a lot of texture and movement to give you the illusion of curled locs! If you have naturally curly hair do you want to wear it in it’s natural form or do you want your stylist to straighten your hair for your chosen style?

3- PLAN YOUR ACCESSORIES AND YOUR CHOSEN STYLE WITH THE HELP OF YOUR HAIR STYLIST AND DRESS STYLIST. If you choose a veil and accessories for your style decide if you want your details on your style to be showing towards your family during your vows or do you want your accessories or veil to be facing out? If your dress has a detailed back, you should

look into a full updo so you can show off those beautiful details you chose!

4- KEY WORDS TO USE IN YOUR SEARCH AND WITH YOUR STYLIST.

Sleek, textured, half-up, natural, organic, braided, boho…No question is a dumb question so please feel free to ask us anything you need help understanding. Our job is to give you the best style we can for your special day, your job is to communicate with us about your aspirations and dreams! Your stylist will provide you with the most expert answers and should give you plenty of options. So please be particular during your consultation, speaking of consultation… absolutely book a trial at least a month prior to your big day!

5- WHAT DOES A MINT WEDDING LOOK LIKE ON THE DAY OF?

At Mint Salon we pride ourselves in our event styling. We have a team of stylists to meet you at your home or you can make yourself at home in our salon. Our staff is highly trained in all hair types and bridal styles. From our gold extension cord to our, essential oils for destressing, to our breakfast package, to our bridal “emergency hair kit” not one detail goes unnoticed.

Stock to print on and printing methods

The range of stocks available vary by the type of printing method chosen. If you want the top of the line, then a letterpress stock that is a 1 or 2 ply cotton or bamboo is for you. The mid range can offer letterpress as well, along with foil stamping, thermography and digital with many choices in paper, color and weights.

IMPRINT COLORS

Your colors can carry thru to your invitations, but they don’t have to! The invitation with traditional black on ecru can be exciting if combined with a layer stock of color or an envelope liner that enhances your design.

BUDGET

A budget is a starting point for you. The reality is there are very expensive invitations to very inexpensive. The old adage “you get what you pay for” is usually true, but a look can be replicated in a cost effective printing method on a nice stock and save you money. You have to realize that the smaller the quantity the higher the per piece cost is. If your quantity is higher, your per piece cost will decrease.

What your wedding invitation package needs:

• Invitation—Must have!!!

• Outer envelope—Must have!!

• Inner envelopes—Optional; some packages include them; others don’t

• Response set—Must have!!

• Reception card—needed if reception is at a different place than the ceremony

• Accommodations—necessary if you have many out of town guests (it is a courtesy to provide for your guests)

• Directions—not usually needed unless you are at a “hard to find” venue or have parking issues

• Wedding Details—great for a weekend of events and website information (registry that is a no-no to not be mentioned on the invite can be found here!)

Putting this all together is best achieved by dealing with a professional stationer—you are doing it once and probably for the first time (and hopefully last!). The professional has been doing it for years and has done many and knows the etiquette for you to follow and most importantly, how to get it done!

Timing is of the essence. Invitations should not be left as the last thing you do!!! For a nice package, allowing 6-8 months usually suffices; for a more custom package, longer is needed. If you are in the last minute of your timing, there are fewer choices. Come see PaperRozzi Invitations. We can help you select the perfect wedding invitation – for you!

"First and foremost, it is important to select a wedding invitation package that reflects your style, taste, and level of ceremony and celebration. Your invitation is the first glimpse your guests will have of what your special day will hold!!"

I DO...AND MY UPDO

The goal, when seeking services at a salon, is generally to leave there looking a lot better when compared to when you entered. Sometimes the client’s goals are realistic but often, they are not. I mean I am a hairdresser, I cannot create magic. Sometimes a plain Jane, wants to come in and leave a Marilyn Monroe. I can do some wonders, but some things are not always possible. A drastic change is sometimes the move but more-often-than-not it isn’t. Your look must fit your personality. It must be a blend of all about you to really pop! Look at Sandy in the movie Grease. She looked hot but we all knew that wasn’t her norm. After one day, she was going to return to her essence plain, innocent Sandy. This is the ideology I use to advise brides when they come in for a consult; I Do and My Updo!!!

Choosing your attire for your wedding is an important part of your day. Beautiful is a must. All eyes are on you. That is your moment. The moment when everyone watches you walk down the aisle to surrender and give yourself to the man you love. A large part of this day is your pictures. They will follow you forever. Choose your dress and hair style wisely or you will forever be haunted by the memory on your mantel smiling back at you, from your wedding day picture frame! When choosing a style, be realistic. You want to be a “princess for a day” but the memory will be with you for the rest of your life or your next husband…whichever comes first!!!

When consulting with brides, it is my practice to never choose styles prior to meeting with the bride. I like to see what she looks like on a normal day. I like to learn the person’s personality and what they are about. It is okay to strive to be glamourous, but you do not want to look so different, no one recognizes

you, especially at your own wedding. You don’t want guests whispering “ Who’s that and where did my____go?”

Hair Comes the Bride points out something very important; “Make a match! A bride’s hair should complement the dress she is wearing and not take it over” (1). Many people choose extreme extravagant dresses with long trains

off your hair or changing the color drastically” (2). Factor in whether you will be a summer or winter bride as seasonal factors, colors or themes should also be considered (2). Don’t forget your style. If you are conservative, pairing this with a fun, freaky style may not produce the results you’re seeking, a sleeked-back chic style may fair better.

what will be your crowning glory (2). Practical advice pointed out includes “NOT chopping

Must you wear an updo? It often is the look which many brides choose. Many this season are going with messy buns, braiding or a combination of the three. The updo is a classic, sophisticated look and can be dressed up with baby’s breath or pearls. Always remember at some point in the day or night, you will have to dance. You want your hair to last, so you look your best with every snap of the camera. Make sure your updo is secure so there is no chance of your hair falling when you take off your veil or when the fun begins with the first dance Use hair spray or pins for that extra hold. Beauty comes from within. Don’t forget the obvious, to look your best. Get in enough sleep the week before your big day, so there is no chance of black circles under your eyes. There’s no room for raccoons in the wedding party. Eat healthy and remember it’s only one day but the memories will last a lifetime. The stress you are feeling about the astronomical decision-making choices you have to make for just one day, will soon be water-under-the bridge. You will soon be at the first day, of the rest of your life. Don’t forget to have fun! I do with my updo!

THE SMARTER WAY TO BUY AN ENGAGEMENT RING

If you’ve found the person you want to marry and are in the market for an engagement ring, you don’t need to be nervous. Just sit back and try to enjoy this memorable milestone in your life. Now, if you’re lucky enough to have a partner who’ll take charge of the whole thing on their own, congratulations you are in for a wonderful surprise. If you’re shopping together the more prepared you are the easier it can be.

Here are a few pointers for making a better, smarter purchase.

FIND A TRUSTED, KNOWLEDGEABLE ADVISOR

Now, if you had a serious medical problem, would you look for a doctor or just go on the Internet to diagnose and treat yourself? Probably not. Like your doctor, your jeweler should be armed with expert training, be open to all questions and be able to provide answers in clear, simple language.

As a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Graduate Gemologist and Certified Jeweler for over 40 years, I have the knowledge and experience to help you select the perfect stone and setting. Yes, you can certainly shop around, but when you do, it’s important to find someone you like, you trust and feel comfortable working with.

PUT TOGETHER A

“COMFORTABLE”

BUDGET

There are very few things you may ever buy that you’ll own as long as this diamond engagement ring and wedding band. We recommend spending as much as reasonable. Some guidelines suggest spending two month’s salary. Currently the industry average ranges from $4000-$7500.

DO SOME RESEARCH

Everyone knows you should consider the four Cs—Color, Clarity Grade, Carat Weight and Cut--when shopping for a diamond. Give yourself enough time. With the expense of carrying a large inventory, most stores won’t have diamonds of all shapes, sizes and quality in stock; but we are happy to special order your gem without any obligation.

NARROW YOUR SELECTION

Small differences in color and clarity can represent as much as 15% to 20% difference price. Go for what you like. Diamonds do not need to be near perfect or totally colorless to be beautiful.

Clarity grades run from flawless to imperfect. An imperfect stone will contain significant flaws that may or may not be visible to the naked eye. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying stones in the middle or lower end of the grading scale. However, we generally do not recommend you consider buying imperfect clarity grades.

The amount of brilliance, sparkle and fire in a diamond is determined by cut. Many of these differences are not visible to the naked eye, but directly impact the overall quality and price of the stone. That’s why we recommend you compare several different stones in person to truly appreciate the difference. That’s where I come in with help to guide you through your selection process.

CONSIDER YOUR SENSE OF STYLE

Today, with an almost endless variety of diamonds available, we’d like to suggest you also consider style. Do your tastes run to traditional or contemporary? Do you want to stay with current trends or forge your own path? Look around your home or office for clues of what you like. Are you looking for the biggest diamond you can afford, or do you prefer a high-quality gem that could become a family heirloom one day?

Check bridal magazines and browse the Internet. Ask your friends how pleased they are with their choices or if they would do things differently.

When selecting a ring, knowing your style will quickly narrow the choices. We also caution our customers to consider their lifestyle. A diamond that is flush with the mounting may protect it from damage. Whereas a high mounted stone might lead to snagging on clothing, furniture or other everyday obstacles. Consider whether you are looking for a diamond solitaire or looking to surround

your center stone with smaller diamonds or colored stones for added dazzle. Adding to your considerations is selecting a coordinating wedding band and if you will be wearing both together. Some ring settings offer a coordinating band. But, mixing a different band with your setting is also fine. Wearing just the band on an everyday basis is also a choice we see people make.

Styles change, people change and circumstances change. Unlike advertising that a “diamond is forever” as the DeBeers Company often does, a setting does not have to remain the same. So, don’t feel the pressure of making this a once-in-a-lifetime choice. There is always the option to change your setting or even trade for a larger diamond in the future. Which is another good reason to establish a relationship with a trusted jeweler. We also hope and expect our customers to come back to us at least once a year for a professional cleaning and to check for wear or damage to the setting.

GET A WRITTEN GIA APPRAISAL WITH YOUR PURCHASE

Glen Moscoe Jewelers highly recommends GIA diamond grading reports. This international organization has led the industry since 1931 in setting the most respected standard for grading and valuating diamonds and other gems. Believe it or not, this can be a highly subjective process. We encourage you to insist on a GIA report with your purchase. Among diamond dealers and jewelry store owners, some labs are known to be particularly lenient and don’t comply with the standards set by GIA. As an additional measure, consider having your diamond laser-inscribed with its GIA report number to provide verification if it’s ever lost or stolen. You can also ask us about special insurance for your engagement and wedding rings.

So, face this milestone with enthusiasm and with a feeling of excitement. Visit us at Glen Moscoe Jewelers (link to www. GlenMoscoeJewelers.com) across the street from McQuaid High School in Brighton. We are here to help you make a great choice!!

THE RIGHT BAG FOR YOUR HONEYMOON

So much time and effort goes into planning your wedding, so it is no wonder the Honeymoon comes last. You need a break! Here are some tips and thoughts to help you choose the right bag(s) to take on that much needed vacation – and your first vacation as a wedded couple.

A scan of the most popular and romantic honeymoon destinations for 2018 shows choices are either relaxing resort-style destinations, or destinations with much to see, keeping the newlyweds on the go. Regardless, your purse/accessory decisions can be the same. Three bags (other than your luggage) are enough to cover any location, any event.

WALLET

Find a wallet that will house your smart phone, credit cards, passport and travel checks. Make sure it has a wrist strap or small loop that can be attached to a belt loop or a larger bag. This will improve its security and make it more difficult for pickpockets who frequent many foreign cities. My suggestion would be the Tech Wallet or H3 Clutch from Initials, Inc.

CLUTCH

room in your luggage. Something like this Solo from Initials, Inc. It even has a small latch adding a chic security aspect as it closes over the end of the zipper closure. Or maybe you find the new Soiree’ a bit more to your taste with its shoulder strap and more petite size.

TOTE

A Beach bag for the resort or a Souvenir bag if you are shopping say, in an outdoor market. A bag that is roomy inside, with few or no dividers, just open space for your wallet and parcels while shopping or your towel and lotions while poolside.

of milk – if you are strong enough to carry it. Folds flat, makes a great carry on and will be certain to draw comments from those around you.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that each of these bags from Initials, Inc. comes with FREE personalization, making the public use of your new monogram fun and affordable. Initials, Inc. is a direct sales company and bags would need to be ordered. There are numerous choices of patterns, personalization styles and I would be happy to guide you through this process.

Perfect for any destination is the new Stripe Canvas Tote with shoulder strap.

A slightly larger clutch will partner with sundresses or cocktail fashion and accompany you for a romantic dinner. It should be large enough to hold your essentials, flat enough to take up little

Perhaps not essential, but an extra bag that is easily packed and always handy to have around is the One Trip Wonder. Do not underestimate this bag. It is designed large enough and strong enough to carry LOTS of stuff. Certainly large enough for a couples beach bag there is actually room for six beach towels. And it is strong enough to carry six gallons

On February 1, 2018, we will launch our new Spring and Summer line. I would be happy to send you our new catalog when it is released. Simply email me with your name and address. Oh, and did I mention a special discount if you want to include some bags in your bridal party gifts? It’s true – we have many bags that your gals would love, again with FREE personalization.

From First Love to First Home

Soon after you have found that special someone, your thoughts start daydreaming of marriage, kids and maybe that perfect house with a white picket fence. Fast forward, some couples decide to buy a home- some before you tie the knot and some after. Like a relationship, buying a home is a big commitment and not something to rush into. Couples should put some planning into what type of home they want and work together on getting their finances in order. Here are a few points to ponder to help newlyweds’ home purchase experience a bit less stressful and maybe a little fun!

1. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE?

• Close to work? School? How is your commute time?

• Is the area trendy and growing? Will it hold its value?

• Does it have amenities you want to be close to like shopping or place of worship?

2. HOW LONG WILL YOU LIVE THERE?

• Will you need more space if you have a family?

• Will your job likely take you to a new city?

• Is there room for a pet (big back yard?)

• Will you be able to get money back from updates needed?

3. DECIDE WHAT FEATURES ARE MOST IMPORTANT?

• How many bedrooms (see above) maybe Mom comes to visit?

• Do you need a garage (maybe he is a car buff?)

• Would a large yard be important to grow your own fresh vegetables?

• Discuss what you each need from what you want!

4. CREATING YOUR “HOME SWEET HOME”

* Do you have time to do a full blow bathroom remodel?

• Do you have a budget for that?

• Will the house handle a future value for the improvements you are thinking of?

• Do you want the stress of doing a remodel?

• What new furniture can you afford?

5. TAKE AWAY THE STRESS AND HAVE FUN!

• Pick out paint colors (that’s an easy fun task!)

• Be sure to talk honestly and openly to each

other about budgets and finances

• Be sure to get pre-qualified by a local lender early to go over many options for financing a home including special first-time home buyer programs!

• Work with a real estate professional and gain from their knowledge and experience. They will keep you on budget and work with you to get just the right location and features important to you both!

DID YOU KNOW?

• The majority of buyers expect to live in their new home for at least 12 years.

• 65% of recent home buyers were married couples.

• 88% of new buyers found their home through using a real estate broker.

• 8 in 10 buyers believe their home is a good financial investment.

• For more than 50% of buyers, finding the right home was the most difficult step in the home buying process

• Approximately 9 in 10 recent buyers were at least somewhat satisfied with their home buying process

{ MORTGAGE TIPS WITH PHYLLIS

You’re ready. Ready to progress to the next step in life. Ready to stop paying your landlord’s mortgage, and make the move into a home you can truly call your own. I congratulate you! Purchasing a home is one of the most important decisions you can make, and it is not to be taken lightly. So, I’d like to provide some guidance to get you genuinely prepared for this critical step in life.

HThere can be many setbacks, pitfalls and difficulties in buying a home. You will need to find the right home, but also find a quality real estate agent, negotiate offers, deal with home inspectors, engineers and attorneys, acquire financing, find insurance, and much more. It’s not only a very involved process, but your financial future may be at risk if you do not go about it with the right strategy.

Establish credit now. If you don’t have any established credit then you should open a secured charge card with a credit balance of $300–$500 and charge only $10–$50 a month on it. Pay off the credit card on time every month. If you do this several months in a row, your credit score will start to go up. (Make sure the card you choose is one that gets reported to the credit reporting agencies.)

But don’t overuse your credit. If you do have credit cards, do not max them out. If you currently have high balances, you should aggressively pay them off as soon as possible. I recommend keeping your credit card balances no more than $50/month. Using too much of your available credit may result in a lowered credit rating.

How to Prepare for Buying a Home

Particularly when dealing with home financing, it is imperative that you have your affairs in order before you begin. Going into the process unprepared can result in delays, frustrations, higher mortgage rates, or in a worst-case scenario, denied financing. Mortgage lenders require homebuyers to have strong credit worthiness, and problems in a borrower’s credit rating can be expensive! Fear not! With a little preparation and a plan, plus a little help from an experienced professional such as myself, you will find the home buying experience much more rewarding. Below, I’ve outlined 7 tips to set you up for success in purchasing a new home.

7 STEPS TO PREPARE FOR BUYING A HOME

Meet with a mortgage loan officer first. Before you begin seriously looking at homes to purchase, you need to know your price range. Get a pre-approval from a respected lender, so you know how much house you can afford. You can also discuss the variety of mortgage products available. And if you’ve already found a home you want to purchase, it would be advisable to get that pre-approval as soon as possible! You’ll be surprised how much more a real estate agent will respect your offer if you have a pre-approval in hand.

Pay your bills on time. Do not make any late payments on anything, including rent, credit card bills, utilities, etc. You’ll want to keep your credit score as high as possible for a purchase of this magnitude. Your credit rating will be a huge factor in determining your interest rate!

Pay rent with a check. You will need to provide canceled rent checks at your mortgage application. This will be a major verification that you are able to pay your monthly mortgage bill.

Don’t co-sign on a loan for anyone. Even if you are not making payments on the loan, it increases your debt-to-income ratio which negatively affects your credit score.

Start setting money aside now. If you haven’t started, you will need to begin putting money into a bank account, for closing costs. Even financing programs that have no down payments require you to have some money set aside to pay for things like attorney fees, inspections fees, appraisals and the like. Do not spend this money; you will need it!

Pay close attention to these tips. I promise you, with a little diligence, patience and strategy, you can be successful in financing a new home. It may take some time to get your credit rating in order and save for closing, but it is absolutely worth it. And if you’re finances are in place and you are ready to begin the process, come see me at Premium Mortgage. I’ll take personal care in getting you the best mortgage program to suit your individual needs!

THREE THINGS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD FEEL

UPLIFTED, EMPOWERED, AND VALIDATED.

Living the Younique lifestyle is a commitment to uplifting, empowering, and validating women everywhere. For some this may look like finding the perfect lip color and feeling like a rock star as she flaunts it at the grocery store. For others it may be learning how to apply simple foundation every morning so that she doesn’t feel like an absolute “mombie” in the drop-off line at her kid’s school. Many women don’t like to wear makeup at all, or just don’t have the time, but may relish in the perfect skin care routine to preserve and enhance their natural beauty.

These are all the things that I thought I was getting when I signed up for my $99 presenters kit in April, 2015. I had fallen in love with the Moodstruck 3D Fiberlashes Mascara and I could not wait to see if I could make money sharing it with my friends and family. What I actually received was way more than I bargained for!'

I have built relationships with many women across the world through an online network of caring, friendship, and compassion. Some of these women I have had the opportunity to meet and bond with in person, others I have just grown close to via the internet. Women who go to bat for me every day, women who don’t hesitate to help me in any way they can. Younique truly is about sisterhood and uplifting one another each and every day; women coming together as one to help one another and raise each other up. What a beautiful thing!

About the Business: Founded on Family Values

Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft, a brother-and-sister team, founded Younique in September 2012 with a mission to uplift, empower, and validate women across the globe. Derek and Melanie firmly believe that all women should feel valued, smart, and empowered through opportunities of personal growth and financial reward.

Since I joined the Younique family I have had once in a lifetime opportunities to travel to places like Chicago, St. Louis, and New Orleans. This may not seem amazing to everyone, but as a single mom of twins, I had grown accustomed to the idea that I would never be able to afford such luxuries as travel and fun.

My confidence increased tenfold and I truly feel empowered to do anything I set my mind to and nothing can stand in my way. Looking back at my profile pictures on social media, I can see the difference in not only the quality of my makeup, but the quality of my attitude. I am a force to be reckoned with! Younique did not give me this attitude, but it did give me the tools, and the motivation, to awaken my inner goddess.

ABOUT THE MAKEUP: NATURE IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SCIENCE

Younique begins by looking to Mother Nature for the inspiration behind the cosmetics. The in-house scientific team then formulates a product that honors that inspiration while delivering cutting-edge cosmetics. Younique’s goal is to provide healthy, clean, and pure cosmetics. Younique’s cosmetics development processes utilize scientific research to ensure that all products contain high quality ingredients that enrich and nourish the skin. The Perfect Red (& other mysteries of the modern world) SOLVED:

True or False: RED = LEAD? Yes…and… NO! LipSense has always been LEAD-FREE! Why is this important? You need to know this ladies! Our lips are skin in its most sensitive form – we need to cherish, nourish, and protect them. You DO NOT want harmful substances leaching into your skin. Did you know that the vibrant red color in cream lipstick is typically created with lead-ingredients, and that over 400 lipstick companies on the market TODAY contain lead? [Just a little FYI: The FDA does not regulate makeup production,

But if you want to follow traditional rules of colorcomplementing, I have some tried-and-true ways to tell which shades look best for each woman. The Holy-Grail of color-matching is “the wrist test.” Simply turn your wrist to look at the underside and your veins. If the veins that you see have a blue-hue, then you can consider yourself a “cool-tone”, whereas if the veins show more of a greenhue, you are most likely a “warm-tone.” What if you see both hues? Jackpot, my friend! You need not think twice about any color family. You, my dear, can wear them all! While knowing your best-suited colors will give you a gorgeous, “it’s all you” look, going against your tones can add some extra pizazz if you are looking to create drama.

I’ve put together a few additional tips on deciding your color-tone:

You are most likely a Cool-Tone if:

 You look best in silver or platinum jewelry

 You prefer to wear brighter or primary colors or pastel colors in the majority of your clothing

HOW TO SELL YOUR HOME FOR MORE MONEY

Your Guide for getting the most out of a home sale.

I wrote a book for home owners that are interested in selling their home. In this book, I describe how important small changes to your home will result is more money for the owner and sell quickly vs stuck on the market for a long time.

It’s all on the seller to go the extra mile and make sure their house stands out from the rest. The book is a giant breakdown all the extra steps you need to take to earn that extra money on the sale. These are proven methods to raise the price of your home. Staging and these other strategies, are all backed up by statistics that are going to prove how important these extra steps can be.

These steps are going to improve your home and make it so much more welcoming to your audience during any drive-by or walk through. The improvements will affect the online presence a great deal as well. There are just so many mediums and platforms where houses are advertised that it is even harder to stand out. That just places the importance of its appearance into a higher level.

There are a lot of options on how to get this done. You can choose a professional stager or a staging company. Maybe even something like a property stylist is a great idea, since it will just make your house stand out that much more. Or you can have me as your sales agent and I will help you as part of my package.

Experienced home sellers discover that the same principles from modeling a home are also useful in the resale market, thus, they rely on professional home stagers to make sure that they sell at a higher price and get off the market quickly.

The main aim of staging a project is to ensure that prospective buyers see the great possibilities owning the house will bring their way. The prospective buyer can walk into the home and have that “finally, I’ve gotten my dream home” feeling.

When listing a house, the photos of the house need to be captivating to the buyers. So much so that they can’t wait to see the house in person. I will ensure all pictures are profession and tells a story. You don’t necessarily need to spend money on new furniture, but you will need to declutter and keep your best pieces out for show.

The following are some basic rules that need to be followed for proper staging of a home:

 Your home must be clean

 Fixing or replacing things

 Get rid of clutter

 Use neutral colors

 Depersonalize

Staging the kitchen can have a huge impact on the portfolio of your home before you decide to place it in the real estate market. This is because the kitchen is the first thing home buyers usually see and if they find it attractive and modern, they could be willing to pay a price you set or pay a higher price than they would have.

With a few simple and straightforward changes, you can transform your old kitchen into a modern space with all the desired amenities organized neatly and in place. I can certainly help you with all the right effects to make the kitchen shine.

Focus your efforts on staging in strategic areas. Your bathroom is on of those areas. Here are a few tips to help you stage your bathrooms properly:

 Aim for a spa-like look and feel

 Give the bathroom a thorough cleaning

 No cleaning products in sight

 Hang fresh, luxurious towels and lay down bath mats.

 Organize storage spaces

 Accessorize for a better look

 Add fresh flowers

 Upgrade where necessary

The master bedroom staging is very important. It should reflect an elegance hat their friends and family would be impressed with. You should consider looking at your master bedroom objectively and replace items that are substandard. Here are a few tips to help you stage your Master Bedroom:

 Remove Exercise Machines

 Paint it like a spa

 New bedding – lots of pillows

 Check your drawers

 Hang a mirror

 Gender-Neutrality

 Lighting – bring in lots of light

 Give illusion of space

 Show that the closet is spacious

VINTAGE SHOPPING BASICS

Vintage clothing: two words that often excite people, but at the same time can be quite intimidating for those who don’t know where to start. After owning Treasure Trove Vintage for six years I often see my customers struggle with this. They love the idea of what vintage has to offer, but it can be overwhelming when presented with racks and racks of pieces from the past. For anyone just dipping their toes into the vintage waters, I’m here to offer the basics for you.

The first thing to know is that vintage pieces typically run much smaller than what is on the inside label of the piece. Sizing has varied throughout every decade. What used to be a size 12 in the 1960s is now a modern size two. At my store we conveniently go through every piece and take measurements to label it with the modern size. Which brings us to the next crucial part of vintage clothing: try everything on. When buying any clothing it’s very important to try it on, but this is especially true with vintage. Since the sizing has varied so much across time, the fits and cuts have too. Things do not hug the body in the same way as modern clothing does. If you’re a woman, you’ll find that pieces in general will fit the body differently than things made in China today. This is why it’s crucial to try things on to find a piece that will fit your body type. A lot of clothing that’s found its way into my store was custom made for someone back in the day and it might not work for you.

A huge positive aspect of purchasing vintage is that the pieces were made with much higher quality materials and constructed much better than modern clothing. There is a reason you can find secondhand dresses from the 1950s in like-new condition when your dress from the mall fell apart in less than a year.

The fabrics are studier, the stitches are stronger, and many things weren’t skimped on. For example, a wool dress you might purchase today will not have a luxurious silk lining of a wool dress from the 1960s. The craftsmanship

of vintage clothing is unparalleled for the price you can purchase it at.

One of the most important things to remember – which may seem obvious, is that most of the pieces are secondhand. They have been loved by people of the past. This means that not everything will be in perfect condition. At my store, we try only to take in pieces

that are in great condition – but that doesn’t mean they are all flawless. Some have holes that were stitched shut, others have slight fading, and some show signs of wear. I think this gives them more character, more of a story – but if that’s something that bothers you, it’s something to keep in mind. This brings me to the most important tidbit that I like to share with my customers and a huge part of my philosophy: vintage pieces are one of a kind. It’s very rare that you will

find two of the same item. They each have their own unique past. Quite frequently people will bring me pieces that belonged to their mother or grandmother, and tell me each item’s history. I love knowing their stories and try to pass them along when someone purchases a piece. I’ve had wedding dresses accompanied with pictures from the wedding day. A pair of Go-Go boots a lovely woman said she wore on her honeymoon to the Virgin Islands. A sweet man brought me his mother’s jazz pants from the 1940s that she had worn when she was a dancer. A little lady gave me her mother’s collection of gowns she wore in the 1930s when she was a lounge singer.

I even had the privilege of cleaning out the closets of a house that had been owned by the same family since 1905. The clothes ranged from the 1960s all the way back to the early 1900s. They had a lot of beautiful custom made pieces that were brought back from New York City: flapper dresses, a fabulous ball gown from the 1950s, a 1900s white linen dress, 1940s suits, and so many more treasures. All that were worn and flaunted out and about in the Rochester of the past.

That’s why I do what I do – I want to pass the stories on to the next generation. I want the pieces to be loved again and again.

Don’t know how to incorporate a vintage item into your everyday wardrobe? I always recommend to my customers that you start with one piece at a time. Try a 1970s blouse with a pair of jeans.

Style a 1960s day dress with a pair of modern shoes. Throw a 1940s coat over your completely new outfit. To me, a vintage piece is the standout in your outfit. For the everyday woman, it’s easier than you think. Once you know the basics it makes shopping for vintage a lot simpler. Having a quick foundation makes it easier to figure out what you want and what you’re looking for. Then one day all the vintage pieces in your closet that you love will have more stories to share.

Capturing that “FIRST LOOK”

When we book the photography for a wedding, we often help the couple though many different aspects of the wedding planning. One of the most common discussions that we have with them is about the idea of a “first look”.

Traditionally, the partners are not to see each other until one of them walks down the aisle. Many couples, however, are choosing to ditch those traditional ways and start a new trend, one they are calling the “first look”.

On the wedding day, before the ceremony, we set up one of the partners to have them wait in anticipation for the love of their life to walk up from behind them. Sometimes, only the couple is involved, while others choose to include their bridal party as well. The other partner walks up from behind and with a tap on the shoulder, shout of their name, or slap on the butt, they get their attention and turn around and have their moment.

This is the “first look”. Sometimes they gasp, cover their mouth, cry, laugh, or just stare in awe. We photograph the entire encounter between the two of them. That moment is theirs and it is beautiful. However, for some people, the thought of walking down the aisle and having your partner see you for the first time in that moment,
