As a student I see my design philosophies evolving every semester. I want to explore more about how spaces affect the intersection between human emotion and psychology. Culture is one aspect of life that I believe is important to me as I have an interest in understanding people and how they live and interact on a daily basis.

In response to the natural calamities & humanitarian crises that Puerto Rico has had to experience, it is crucial to create an undemanding recovery effort for the current and future generations.

concept: reconfiguration + expansion
The prefabricated unit consist of a modular ‘C’ shape in a plot that was conceptualized into a grid made up of 3’ x 3’ squares. Our ‘C’ shape module consist of three different sized panels (A, B, C) which follows the 3’ grid system.

Module can be reconfigured two-dimensionally in plan view but also three dimensionally to create spaces and voids. These spaces can be either a room, a window, or infilled with a wall panel.

model was constructed utilizing a laser cutter to score and laser the individual pieces. assembled using 3/16” wood panels and wood glue.

San Juan: respecting culture
Dance is movement,art, and language. It consists of sequences of movement that are purposely selected. The curvature of the form expresses the curves and flow of the Jibaro cultural dresses.

The main circulation areas are placed within the axis to further highlight and support this concept. To highlight the importance of movement, a kinetic facade is utilized in the center of the terminal where high flow of traffic is met.
Through the reflectance of aluminum panels and the prevailing winds of san juan, the facade choreographs a dance of its own. The dancing of the aluminum panels illuminates the corridor with waves ofl ights peeking through within each individual panel. Much like dance, the facade evokes movement.

Like a dance, there is flow and rhythm yet it is grounded through the center of mass to maintain balance and stability. The beauty of dane is how honest and bare it can be. With every step and move taken, it is all exposed with no opportunity to hide anything.

the STEAM Engine Center strives to provide an alternative to the typical school. Providing a unique experience different from the typical dull, monotonous school building is important. Designing in opposition to the typical school plan typology, we chose to break the program into disconnected volumes. location: edmond, ok

The program is designed in opposition to the typical linear school plan. A STEAM learning center must break the hierarchical teacher-classroom mold for. Rounded edges encourage students to explore, further dematerializing typical circulation experiences within the spaces. The hallways links through a low roof creating various circulation paths unlike the prototypical bldg. connected through a prescribed circulation system.

Materiality comes into play within the STEAM bldg to allow translucency and reflectivity over the typical static swaths of white. Channel glass is chosen to display and expose the industrial aesthetic that occurs within the extrusions. The Alucabond panels serves as a futuristic yet industrial material that allows much opportunity with color in the bldg.
