Best Practices Rounds Bottom Lines 1. Remember to follow up on ALL investigations ordered under your name, including imaging ordered at one site to be performed at another (ie Northeast patient sent to RAH for CT or ultrasound) to ensure the patient has completed the test AND been seen in the emergency department for results. 2. Please ensure that when sending patients to another site for imaging that the instructions for registering and following up in the emergency department are made clear (verbally and on the handout) to the patient. 3. Prior to sending a CRP consider how the results will be used/affect your management in the emergency department setting. 4. Increased CRP values often correlate with a higher likelihood for serious bacterial infection; (>100mg/dL associated with 80% chance of bacterial infection, >500mg/dL up to 94%) consider sending blood cultures and/or investigations for occult infection, and ensure early follow up if patient is discharged. 5. Remember to follow up on lab tests ordered under your name, including tests which may not be resulted during your shift, within 48-72 hours.
