Normalisation for Area Surveyed As shown in the tables below, when the area surveyed is taken in to account, retail precincts and shopping centres have significantly higher litter loads than seen at other sites. Around retail precincts the litter load in the 2015/16 survey is 114.2 items per 1000 sq metres whereas the loads in shopping centres was 112.0 items per 1000 sq. metres. Across SA, the 2015/16 survey found, on average, 46.6 items per 1000 sq metres versus 45.3 items per 1000 sq metres in the 2014/15 survey.

Changes in volumetric loads across the other site types are much smaller. Volumetric litter loads in Industrial precincts remain high.
