How We Heal

My Cherokee teacher always reminded me that we are spirit in a body. We often get distracted by physical discomfort, disease, and even the basics of living. However, we are at our core a spiritual being. When we have disease or need healing, often we think “now what do I do to get better?” Do I take this medicine, do I exercise, or do I go see a doctor? All those things are good; but what was taught to me is that illness is a disconnection from your essence.

Life’s journey takes us in many directions. Illness, discomfort, and hardship are part of our human existence which few of us escape. How we manage these trials is somewhat choice and somewhat preordained – preordained in the sense that you never know what grows in you.

Healing Perspectives

with Rosie Carey

Love and life, light and dark, choice and action, these influences define our journey. As souls in a body, we are apart from the greater consciousness that would guide us. We are daily challenged to direct our own path. How we do that is key to understanding love and life, light and dark, choice and action.

Native peoples who live close to nature draw healing from that connection, the harmony of the physical body and its relationship to mother earth. We are at a time now that this harmony is more elusive. Our connections have been weakened through energy that disturbs us such as electrical devices, pollution, radio waves, and modern conveniences. Even our method of transportation is separating us from nature.

Our bodies are vibrations and patterns of energy that form as both solid and electrical bodies to regulate health and consciousness. We know that now as we become aware of quantum reality. Our soul or essence enters our body shortly after birth and dwells throughout life as the gateway for our consciousness to evolve through human existence. I was talking with someone today who said she felt life was a precious moment of temporary awareness in the human body.

Healing comes from within. To align your physical and spiritual bodies start by focusing on your heart. Place your hands on your heart and feel the energy of your essence and the energy of your life force coming together here. Work with your essence to expand more fully your consciousness into your body. Feel the flow of light and energy into every part of your body. Encourage life force to join with your soul essence to bring vitality and a return to health. Talk to your body. Talk to your illness.

Connecting with your own essence to heal is primary. And there is power in this. Remember also, you are one of a realm of spiritual beings who would help you but for the asking. I sometimes think that part of this earthly journey is remembering we are spirits – which is hard, and maybe the whole point.

The Trillion Dollar Silencer By Local Author

Local author and Keene State College Professor Emerita, Joan Roelofs, recently published The Trillion Dollar Silencer: Why There Is So Little Anti-War Protest in the United States by Clarity Press. This book has a section on New Hampshire that includes Keene.

The Trillion Dollar Silencer investigates the astounding lack of popular protest at the death and destruction that the military industrial complex is inflicting on people, nations, and the environment, and its budgetdraining costs. Where is the antiwar protest by progressives, libertarians, environmentalists, civil rights advocates, academics, clergy, community volunteers, artists, et al? This book focuses on how military largesse infests such public sectors’ interests. For more details, visit www.joanroelofs. wordpress.com.

Read the Monadnock Shopper News online: www.shoppernews.com

Death denial in the United States is commonplace. Even the language that is used, such as “passed on” or “slipped away,” indicates how the subject of dying is avoided. And this is understandable, as thinking about death can be terrifying for all kinds of reasons. But being able to discuss death wishes with elderly loved ones is especially important.

Kasey March, an end of life doula, and Susan MacNeil, author of 18 Minutes: A Daughter’s Primer on Life & Death, will offer a chance to talk about preparing for a good death through the lens of their own unique experiences. March is a trained International End of Life Doula (INELDA) and MacNeil experienced her mother’s death in early 2022. Sharing their insight, the two-hour session will provide a framework for others to join in the conversation about all aspects of death. This program is not intended to be a support group although the conversation will be conducted in a compassionate environment. The event is free and open to all.
