Keene’s Clean Energy Team will be on Central Square between 1:30 and 3 p.m. They will host a rally for environmentalists of all ages, and they’ve lined up a diverse range of speakers addressing topics that matter. Those who are interested in holding a sign on the perimeter of Central Square should arrive around 1:30 p.m. Hand-made signs are always best, but they will have signs to lend for those who aren’t able to create their own.
To hear inspiring short talks on varied climate and clean energy subjects, be there at 2 p.m. For hopeful news about community power in Keene, be at Central Square at 2:30 p.m to hear from Mayor George Hansel and Mari Brunner.
Folks are encouraged to head downtown for lunch as part of the Earth Day adventure. Keene will provide lots of delicious options, including a barbecue on the patio at the Food Co-op from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

92 Acres Conserved In Alstead And Marlow
The Monadnock Conservancy has finalized the placement of two conservation easements on properties owned by Kroka Expeditions in Marlow.
The first easement was finalized at the end of 2022 and comprises 15 acres of farmland along Rogers Road in Alstead. The second was finalized in March of this year and protects 77 acres of Kroka’s headquarters campus on Route 123 in Marlow and Alstead.
“It is only fitting that we partner with the Monadnock Conservancy to ensure that Kroka’s land will be secured as a long-term agricultural and recreational resource for our neighborhood,” says Nathan Lyczak, Kroka’s executive director.

The majority of the conserved acreage on Rogers Road features soil classified as “prime” by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The designation is reserved for the most fertile and productive farmland in the country. The larger tract is thickly forested and includes hiking trails open to the public, 1700 feet of streams, a beaver pond, and eight acres of wetlands.

Make Earth Day Every Day
By Deb Paul
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd every year. The day aims to raise awareness, inspire more mindfulness, protect the environment, and focus on the need for conservation.
The earth provides us with everything we need to grow food and live healthy lives. We have our natural resources – land, water, animals, and plants. This day should be spent celebrating the planet’s natural resources.
From space, earth looks like a big blue marble with all it’s blues and greens wrapped in swirls of white. From our vantage point, the earth still has beauty, but it is often marred by smoke in the skies, ruined waterways, or trash stuck to the side of the streets. It sometimes seems that humans have treated the earth not so much as a garden but as a dump. We only get one earth and we should be helping the environment, not hurting it.
Our planet is referred to as Mother Earth; it gives us food, water, and shelter. Earth Day is a reminder to keep our eye on the big blue marble, a reminder that earth is neither a garden nor a dump, it is our home, and it is our lifesupport system.
Earth Day began on April 22, 1970, as a time for all people to celebrate planet Earth and renew our dedication to making the world safer, healthier, and cleaner for all of us and for generations yet to come. If we keep treating it the way we do now, there may not be an Earth for other generations to experience.
There are a few simple tips on improving environmental conditions. You can do these every day and contribute to positive effect on the planet: sort the trash, and follow the “Rs”: reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose, and repair.
Take part in the improvement in your town and home by reducing expenditure of gasoline, reduce energy usage, pick up and clean roadsides, and think satiability, like taking a piece of your lawn and letting it be a garden. Every little bit helps.

When looking at water, the amount of fresh clean water becomes less and less. Scientists ask everyone on the planet to take care of the resources and to spend water reasonably, lowering usage. By doing this you will save the water resources.
We have to make efforts about care of the planet not only once a year, but also every day. You can easily take part in this operation. Our future, and the future of our descendants, depends on it.
These acts may be the solution to save the life-support system for our children and their children and all future generations to come. We should do all that we can to be good stewards of our planet.
Long journeys are comprised of small steps, one after another. Enough small steps, by each one of us, may save the Earth... yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
