Admiration for actress Meryl Steep has motivated her to take her career to a higher level. “I love how brilliant she is, confidence is everything and that’s exactly how she carries herself. She is my idol.” Aside from being a part of photo shoots with various photographers, Moy was featured on Vogue Italia’s Website back in June. Moy has retained a positive ambivalence about modeling and acting and continues to do so as long as she can.

“When one door closes, another opens; so, stay true to who you are and never give up. Especially when it comes to something that makes you happy.”

Moy is a conventionally attractive Chinese-American woman and her beauty pairs beautifully with high fashion. And to that end, Moy leaves me with more words that I consider wisdom.

“Don’t expect others to understand your grind, when God didn’t give them your vision.” She said, “I always keep a small chance of hope, Things can get in the way, but that won’t stop me” 29

hile bringing the concept of the editorial together, I knew as a stylist, I wanted to display a feminine but vintage look. I felt the best era to convey this thought would be through 1960s. In addition to this, I wanted a full color palette with pinks and greens and blues. The opposing looks of the two models allowed Megan and my creative senses to be most actively used. By working with a variety of hair and skin tones, we Loren Tidmore were able to pull clothes with a variety of hues and silhouettes. The majority of the garments were from Starrz Boutique. She responded with, “The vision and inspiration that I brought to this process were based in my love for retro styling, which came from ‘The Twilight Zone.” All the 60s styles that are seen on the show fascinate me because it was culturally and socially such a different time from now. All the glamour and structure shown I Megan Crowe find so beautiful. “

TEN TIPS EVERY MODEL SHOULD KNOW By: Vedrana Grbovic 1. Choosing the right agency One of the most important decisions you’ll make as a model is choosing an agency. If you’re lucky enough to be presented with several options there are many things to consider. Take a look at the girls who are currently on their books. Is there a very large number of models? How many of them are regularly working? Beware of agencies that ask for membership fees. In my experience, a reputable and strong agency will not charge you to sign with them. Their scout or booker needs to identify your ‘potential’ and then invest in realizing it and capitalizing on it.

2. Rescue Remedies Every woman has a collection of beauty tips she turns to in ‘emergency’ situations. The models worst nightmare is looking in the mirror the night before a big job and seeing a pimple the size of a satellite on her forehead. I’d add morning puffiness as I am one of those sleeping beauties who wake up looking like a chipmunk. I combat the first by securing a refrigerated slice of raw potato on my problematic spot for as long as I can the night before, and treating my face to a few moments in cold water with ice cubes upon waking up. Do this carefully so as not to irritate your skin by ‘freezing’ it.

3. Network to get work If you are like me and your idea of a career path goes beyond perfecting posing, it is very important to make the most of each modeling assignment by getting to know the team you are working with. The contacts I made as a model have come in very handy later in life when I began working in event marketing and advertising. Instead of spending the day staring at your iPad, take the time to get to know the people you are working with and to learn a thing or two.

4. Practice makes perfect It is a cliché but it is also very true. Being photogenic will only get you so far, it is very important to get to know your angles, practice original poses and various expressions. This means spending a fair amount of time in front of the mirror. It’s not vanity- it’s research.

5. ‘The Model Bag’ My model bag is a staple. After my book, it’s the most important item I carry on set. In it you’ll find items such as water, a snack, double-sided tape, wet-wipes, tweezers, safety pins, eye drops, make-up essentials, a spare pair of nude underwear, nude and black high heels. I also pack a change scarf to put over my head so as to avoid staining collars with makeup when changing.

6. Tip to Toe The pet peeve of industry professionals is models that arrive unprepared. There is no excuse for neglecting to perform basic maintenance. A professional model should always arrive with clean skin and hair, neat and presentable nails and with all excess facial and body hair removed. Remember, the make-up chair is not a day spa and nobody wants to Photoshop Chewbacca legs.

66

7. Mastering the catwalk The first step to mastering the catwalk is acknowledging that it’d not just a walk. Over time, girls develop a trademark strut that can book jobs even before the casting is complete. I recommend recording your walk in a challenging pair of heels and watching the footage to pinpoint anything that looks awkward. I’m also a big advocate of activities such as latin dancing that will help you loosen up the hips and add a wow factor to your walk.

8. The client is always right We’ve all been in situations where we didn’t quite like our hair, makeup or the outfits we had been allocated on a job. However, it is very important to know your jurisdiction. Each person is being paid to do their part of the job and as difficult as it can be to let others dictate sometimes you just have to learn to accept the challenge and make the most of what you are given.

9. Multitasking I love to see models studying on the job. I’ve been known to spend up to 17 hours on set at video clip shoots and most of that time was spent waiting. This is a unique opportunity to complete tasks that generally give way to procrastination, so don’t be afraid to bring a book or creative project.

10. Learning for Life The most important tip for aspiring or working models would have to be to always strive to acquire life skills during your time as a model. For each country I worked in, I tried to learn a few phrases in the local language, explored the streets map in hand and learned to plan and organize for a productive day. The career of a model is often short-lived, but the skills that are developed can be of life-long benefit.

Model: Gina Underhill

eorgina Thomas is a professional makeup artist who has worked with some of the top designers, photographers and stylists in the United Kingdom. She was able to do what she loves best in the historic Alscot Park and Gardens located in England,“Set in 4,000 acres of beautiful Warwickshire countryside, mainly within the parish of Preston-on-Stour, Stratford-upon-Avon, Alscot a thriving country Estate has been in the West family for over two hundred years.” It only takes but a glance at the next few pages to see why she is in such high demand. Photoshoots can only be successful with a fully experienced make-up artist who understands how different shades and colors can determine the outcome of an award-winning photograph. Fashion model Gina Underhill escalated this editorial by exuding class and elegance. Gina’s career started in beauty pageants and catwalk shows and now gravitates towards print shots. Celebrity fashion designer Vivienne Whelan provided wardrobe. Vivienne has been seen on the hit TV show Project Catwalk Season 3. KTB Jewelry provided all accessories. Throughout this editorial, it is obvious how Georgina advanced the photographs by using her artistry.

Maria Furquim’s PASSION For FASHION

“FASHIONS FADE, STYLE IS ETERNAL” - YVES SAINT LAURENT

ollectors of vintage clothing know that fashion of yesteryear is the fashion of today. Maria Furquim takes this notion to a whole new level at her boutique. Mariposa’s clothing and accessories features styles dating back the Victorian Era to today’s modern looks. Although you will find vintage pieces here at Mariposa’s, you will notice what a statement they make when paired with great accessories. Maria also caters to many various sizes so anyone can look fabulous.

good eye for antique items. Aside from clothing, Maria features jewelry, china, carpets and other accessories within her store. This stylist believes in bringing the youthfulness out of any woman and helping them feel beautiful in any fashionable item they choose to wear.

“It’s important that I make my customers happy in every way, that’s my goal.” Maria takes part in various fashion shows where all proceeds are given to a breast cancer foundation called Shades of Pink. She shows her support for breast cancer survivors in many different ways, including giving them the chance to feel beautiful while modeling her vintage fashion.

Maria transitioned from the corporate world to the fashion scene within the last two years. While experiencing some unpleasant events during this time in her life she felt she needed to make a change and move forward. She turned to her love for collecting vintage items. This was not a new “They felt beautiful and at that point I knew my goal was accomplished.” found passion; she always had a great love and

Professional photographer Sky Simone used her creativity to produce a photoshoot inspired by Old World styles. Models Zherish, Casey, and Laura were hand chosen by Sky because she knew they were each skilled enough to transform into the sophisticated characters instrumental in accomplishing this dramatic shoot. Australia’s favorite vintage shop, Momo’s Boutique, offered stylish garments essential to completing the photographer’s vision.
