Design to me is more than just lines on paper, or an aesthetically pleasing building. In my opinion, it’s the ability to convey feelings, emotion, ideas, stories, and being able to bring people together that has attracted me to design since I was a kid.
I’ve always loved to draw, putting my ideas or telling a story by drawing lines on a piece of paper. As much as I love to read stories, I would always prefer comic books as I love to have visuals that would accompany the story, to be able to see exactly what the writer and the artist had envisioned. Essentially, I always prefer showing people ideas instead of telling them about them. On top of all that, I find it cathartic to be able to draw whatever comes to mind, to be able to put these loose ideas in my head onto a physical medium.
I studied Architectural Design not only because I loved the idea of being able to turn my designs into livable and habitable spaces, but it is also because I love understanding people, understanding how they live their lives, and knowing what their needs and wants are. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of designing a building that would not only meet the needs of groups of people, but that it would also bring them together to mingle in a single space.
It has always been a dream of mine to pursue art and design, to be able to put my ideas and concepts into a physical medium or space, as well as help or work with people with similar ideas that would, hopefully, one day make an impact in the industry and society.
Located at Thomson Nature Park is the site of an abandoned Hainan village that was once the home of a thriving community rich in culture.
All that remains now are the ruins of concrete walls, mossaic floor tiles and mossy walkways of the village, with its new inhabitants being the locally endangered Langur monkeys.
This project is meant to revive what has been abandoned in the village and amplify these activities into inhabitable spaces.
Long ago, there was a great environmental tragedy that nearly wiped away the entire population of these dwellings.
Thankfully, with their ability to adapt to the rapidly changing environmental conditions, there was a fraction who survived the disaster.
These survivors dedicate the rest of their days to educating others as well as their young about this tragedy and how to prevent a possible extinction of their kind from happening again.
Located at Labrador Park, this building acts as both a public amphitheatre and gallery as well as a water filtration plant. There are also balconies dedicated to small agricultural spaces.
Final Year Project
We were tasked to create a small scaled bamboo model, basing its design on an existing building of our choice.
The St John Dementia Care Center is going to undergo renovations to expand its operations. We were tasked to design the new interior with the given limitations and taking the methods of caring for patients into consideration.
My design is based on the Supertrees at Gardens By The Bay. Using various methods such as heating the bamboo to allow it to bend, I was able to recreate the iconic shape of the structure.
My new design featured an open concept on all floors, with subtle visual zoning as well as additional care facilities such as a multi sensory room on all floors.
My company was given the opportunity to design explorable and inhabital spaces that allows players in the metaverse to view, purchase and display NFTs within the space.
The client wanted a Science Fiction theme for the CyberPod.
Drawing has always been a favourite hobby of mine. Since I enjoy reading The Walking Dead series of comic books and listening to metal music, I thought it would be interesting to combine both of these ideas together.
When I’m not drawing, I’ll be playing my guitar. I’ve been playing for around four years and have done three performances with my bands. Not only am I able to lay out emotions or convey ideas and feelings through physical mediums, but I’ve always wanted to carry that over to music as well.
