MEAL PLANS Unlimited Meal Plan (MK-100)

$1,972 per semester (Unlimited/$100 Cougar Dollars and $100 Cougar Cash)

This plan includes $100 Cougar Dollars which gives students the ability and freedom to purchase beverages, snacks or meals anytime at any food service venue on campus (Excluding Barnes and Noble Café). These on-campus venues include: the Residence Dining Hall, the Miron Student Center Food Court, the Cougar’s Den, Starbucks (Center for Academic Success, 3rd floor and University Library) Smashburger, Auntie Anne’s, Au Bon Pain and Jersey Mike’s Subs.

This plan also includes $100 Cougar Cash which can be used at any of the above listed on campus food service venues, as well as Au Bon Pain, Barnes and Noble Café, Northside Cafe, Ursino Steakhouse and Tavern and Frutta Bowls (coming soon).

Students can also use their Cougar Cash at the following off campus food venues: Applebee’s, Bonchon Chicken, Koki Buffet, Rock ‘n’ Joe’s and Tropicana Diner.

In addition, each Unlimited Meal Plan includes two guest meals per month. At the end of every month, any unused guest meals will be forfeited.

Any unused Cougar Cash from the fall semester that come with the purchase of the MK-100 Meal Plan will carry over into the spring semester. All remaining Cougar Cash from these two plans will be forfeited at the end of the spring semester and no credits or refunds will be provided.

Block Meal Plan (KB-96)

$1,412 per semester (96 meals/$200 Cougar Dollars and $100 Cougar Cash)

This meal plan is designed for students who plan to eat a minimal number of meals in the new residence hall dining facility and still have the flexibility of grabbing a quick snack or meal at other campus food service locations. Students are able to use 96 meals per semester in the all you care to eat dining facility in the Residence Dining Hall and have $200 Cougar Dollars and $100 Cougar Cash as part of this plan.

food service venue on campus (Excluding Barnes and Noble Café). These venues include: the Residence Dining Hall, the Miron Student Center Food Court, the Cougar’s Den, Starbucks (Center for Academic Success, 3rd floor and University Library) Smashburger, Auntie Anne’s, Au Bon Pain and Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Because there are no maximum or minimum meals per week, this block meal plan allows you the flexibility, variety and most of all value to meet your own personal dining needs. *Cougar dollars from these two plans are forfeited at the end of the spring semester.

Declining Balance Plan

$1,500 per semester ($1,000 Cougar Dollars and $500 Cougar Cash)

Juniors and Seniors who live on campus* can purchase this plan. This plan allows the patrons to use it in all the eateries on campus and off campus. A 2% access fee is charged when this plan is purchased.

This declining balance meal plan gives the students, faculty and staff the ability and freedom to purchase beverages, snacks or meals anytime at any food service venue on campus (Excluding Barnes and Noble Café).

These venues include: the Residence Dining Hall, the Miron Student Center Food Court, the Cougar’s Den, Starbucks (Center for Academic Success, 3rd floor and University Library) Smashburger, Auntie Anne’s, Au Bon Pain Northside Cafe and Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Students can also use their Cougar Cash at the following off campus food venues: Applebee’s, Bonchon Chicken, Koki Buffet, Rock ‘n’ Joe’s and Tropicana Diner.

Declining Balance Refund Policy A 2% (of the purchased plan amount) nonrefundable Student Access Fee will be assessed to your student account if you purchase this plan. A maximum of $500 of the unexpended Cougar Cash remaining in the Declining Balance plan at the end of the spring semester. Refunds will be issued only after any balance due on the student account has been satisfied.

Meal Plan Equivalency Meal Equivalencies may be used at participating locations in the Miron Student Center Food Court, Monday through Wednesday (1 p.m. to 3 p.m. lunch and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. dinner). A meal equivalency allows for a student to choose to eat at one of these locations within the MSC Food Court, rather than the Residence Dining Hall. Students using this option will not be able to utilize their meal plan in the dining hall during the designated equivalency meal hours.

General Information Students may change their meal plan selection or assignment through the second week of the semester ONLY. Changes to assigned meal plans can be made on KeanWISE by selecting “Change My Meal Plan” on the “Meal Plan Options” menu. Freshman resident students are only able to choose the unlimited meal plan. Sophomore resident students are able to choose from the unlimited meal plan or the Block KB-96 plan. Upperclassmen resident students (Juniors and Seniors) wishing to change their meal plan assignment may choose from any Meal Plan options. Please note that you are financially responsible for any additional meal plan charges incurred as a result of changing your meal plan. The online meal plan change process for the fall semester is available through September 14, 2018. The online meal plan process for the spring is available through February 1, 2019.

Meal Plan Cancellation Policy Students who have purchased a meal plan and withdraw from Kean University or terminate their housing contract may cancel their meal plan. The meal plan credit will be based on the date of cancellation and number of Meals/ Cougar Dollars used at the time of cancellation.

This cancellation request must be received within the semester the meal plan was purchased.

Prior to the beginning of the academic semester the following cancellation policy will apply: A student who cancels their housing or withdraws from the University will receive a 100% reversal of the meal plan charge.

Once the meal plan is valid and can be utilized in dining services, the following cancellation policy will apply: A student who cancels their housing or withdraws from the University will receive a credit calculated on a percentage basis (equivalent to the Residence Life cancellation policy) or the student will receive a credit based on the number of Meals/Cougar Dollars/Cougar Cash used, whichever is higher. Refunds will be issued only after any balance due on the student account has been satisfied.

Meal Plan Restriction Please note that students are not allowed to obtain cash advances, purchase alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, or money orders with their Cougar Dollars or Cougar Cash.

Meal Plan Refund Appeals Students may appeal a calculated refund within the semester the meal plan was purchased. Meal plan refund appeals must be directed to the Office of Student Accounting at billing@kean.edu.

Meal Plan Exemption Students may request to receive exemption from the meal plan for a specific documented medical condition. Students must submit a letter of appeal by August 31, 2018, for the Fall 2018 semester and November 30, 2018, for the Spring 2019 semester to: Donna Dingle, Counseling & Disability Services, Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue, DN-122, Union, NJ 07083.

Flex Dollars can be purchased at any time in any amount over $50. Flex Dollars roll over from semester to semester and any unused portions are fully refundable.

COUGAR’S DEN SUNDAY TICKET

The NFL Sunday Ticket package is sponsored by Student Organization, your full-time undergraduate student government at Kean University.

Come out and watch every regular season game with us, in the Miron Student Center Cougar’s Den on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Students will receive a raffle ticket (each Sunday) to be entered into a big raffle on Super Bowl Sunday. The more Sundays you attend the more chances of winning.

The Cougar’s Den Late Night Programming & NFL Menu is offered on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and during the special late night programming events throughout the semester.
