Culture is our life, and music is the world’s common language.

We can share our own culture, communicate with each otherthrough culture, and change the world.

Covid’s influence has made our lives very dull. I wanted to share a warm message of goodness and sincerity to those who are overcoming during these times to draw hope from one another. We want to ask for each other’s best regard, share hope, and exchange joy through music, the world’s common language.

We hope the music from this concert would be kept the memories of 2020 as a vibration of hope to all of us.

It is a very fortunate that we are able to hold virtual concerts music jam during difficult times. It also was possible to invite traditional Korean performers because it is online event.

It will be refreshing during this tiresome pandemic. We will have the ability to enjoy listening and feeling from home comfortably.

I appreciate the musicians who will be participating in the event and also, I would like to thank the staff for their hard work.

The music concert tonight will fill us with dynamic energy.

Gamin | Korean reeds: Piri 피리 "Jungmori Blues” is a work commissioned for the New York Sanjo festival, 2018. Co-composers gamin and Ned Rothenberg premièred this work in May 2018 at the New York Asia Society. At the work's première, Jungmori Blues was performed as an accompaniment for a Korean percussion, janggo, which is a traditional style for Sanjo.

Later, for a subsequent performance, in November 2018, at the Smithsonian Freer-Sackler Gallery in D.C., we expanded the role of Korean percussion instruments in improvisation. Each of 2 musicians plays 1 of 2 instruments successively, accompanied by percussion.

Mi - hee Kwon | Pansori singer 국악가수 Mi-hee Kwon, who has already gained

fame for her pansori, is now actively working by combining traditional Korean music with contemporary music to pioneer a new musical genre called Korean traditional pop.

George Klales | Banjoist George Klales plays a guitar and a

Banjo. Every Saturday he spent time playing and practicing with other guitarists, banjoists and violinists. He performed many performances with them.

He is fluent in Korean and loves Korean culture and Korea. He currently lives happily with his wife in West Chest.

Ye-won Kang | Haegeum í•´ę¸ˆ Ye-won Kang has a reputation as

a haegeum player, and she is completing her doctorate in Korean music at Ewha Woman's University. Also, she was the recipient of the National Intangible Cultural Property No. 1 Jongmyo Jeryeak (Royal ancestral rites music).

She is currently teaching students at Daewon Girls' High School.

Tom and Marian Gittelman | Guitarist & Violinist Tom and Marian Gittelman are

a musical couple from Philadelphia Pennsylvania who play Folk music and share a passion for American Old time Appalachian Music and Irish Traditional dance music.

Marian plays violin/fiddle and husband Tom plays guitar and bouzouki.

Over the years they have played with numerous bands in venues including festivals, concerts, dances, weddings, art galleries and numerous pubs in both the United States and Europe.

Hye-ohn Park | Daegeum 대금 Hye-ohn Park is well known as her daegeum

performer and received her doctorate in Korean music from Ewha Woman’s University.

She currently teaches students at Ewha Woman's University and lives with her family in Seoul, South Korea.

Erik Dutko | Guitarist

Erik Dutko first developed a love for the guitar

as a teenager. “There was always a guitar lying around the house, but it wasn't until I turned 18 that I found myself with the real desire to learn.”

Shortly thereafter, his interest in music became serious enough that he decided to develop it further by attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. At the university, he studied with guitarists, Tom Giacobetti and Jimmy Bruno, who instilled the solid fundamentals of music. After college, he spent some time studying and playing with other guitarists. During this time, Erik primarily worked in the Philadelphia area and as an instructor at the Music Workshop, Eastern University, St. Joseph's Preparatory School, and several other schools in the area. This period of time also served to broaden his musical horizons, which led Erik to discover an interest in classical music and other musical forms.

In 2006, Erik met his future wife, Ishbara, and decided to also pursue a nursing degree at LaSalle University and subsequent doctorate at Temple University. “At the end of the day, I'm a musician. I just happen to be one who moonlights as a nurse.” Erik is currently working on getting back into the recording studio and hopes to do so within the next year. He currently resides in Cheltenham with his wife and young children, Milo and Luka.

Hee-won Park | Pansori 판소리 Hee-won Park, a famous Korean pan-

sori singer, studied Korean music at Ewha Woman's University and received a master's degree in Korean Studies. She won the Prime Minister Award at the Namwon Chunhyang Traditional Music Competition for her pansori.

She is currently active in the pansori musical troupe "pansori factory BADAKSORI" and lives in Yongin City, South Korea with her husband and son.

Pansori (판소리): Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a singer and a drummer.

Haegeum (해금): Traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a fiddle.

Daegeum (대금): A large bamboo

flute, a transverse flute used in traditional Korean music.
