A YEAR TO Annual Report

To be the defining force in developing lifelong learners by stewarding a learning environment that inspires us to reach our ultimate potential.

Board Chair Tiffany Jay
As I look back on the past school year, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride. The 2024–25 school year was a year marked by growth, achievement, celebration, and community. It was a year that reflects the very best of what makes KCS such a special place.
This year will be remembered as a true milestone in our school’s history We celebrated the completion of our Senior School campus, a vision that has taken years of dedication and investment from our community Even more momentous, we proudly graduated our very first Grade 12 class, a group of trailblazing students who will forever hold a special place in the story of KCS
Their accomplishments, both inside and outside the classroom, speak to the strength of our mission and the power of a KCS education to prepare young people for lives of purpose and impact
The year also marked a time of transition in leadership With both joy and deep gratitude, we said farewell to our beloved Head of School, Derek Logan, whose 17 years of leadership shaped KCS into the thriving community it is today. Derek leaves behind a legacy of care, vision, and community building that will continue to inspire generations of students, families, faculty, and staff. At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome our new Head of School, Garth Nichols. Garth brings with him a deep commitment to innovation,
community, and student success, and we look forward with great excitement to the future of KCS under his leadership.
None of these milestones would have been possible without the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our volunteers. From supporting our boldest visions to giving their time and energy to strengthen daily life at KCS, our community has once again shown what can be achieved when we come together Your contributions ensure that our students have every opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive
This Annual Report and Donor Tribute reflects a remarkable year defined by learning, leadership, and community It is also a reminder that our story does not end here With the strength of our foundation and the commitment of our entire community, we are poised to build on these milestones, charting bold new directions while staying true to our values
On behalf of the Board, thank you to every member of our KCS community for the role you play in shaping this vibrant community. Together, we ensure that KCS remains a place where students are encouraged to dream big, act with kindness, and become their best selves today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
TIFFANY JAY Board Chair

Head of School Garth Nichols
I have quickly come to appreciate the remarkable spirit that defines this school, and the rich history that continues to inform and energize Kingsway College School. I have read, watched and listened to the many milestones achieved and most recently meeting the people who made them possible has been both humbling and inspiring.
Last year marked a significant chapter in the KCS story. As the school celebrated the graduation of its very first Grade 12 class, it was clear that the founding vision to create a values-driven, innovative educational experience remains as powerful today as it was in 1989. And that this vision is proving prescient in the current and future educational landscape: post secondary admissions and the future of work are hungry for students that have human-centred traits. These traits are enumerated in many different ways, include the Organization for Economic Development (OECD), World Economic Forum (WEF), and more; however, at KCS, it’s been in our DNA since the founding of the school. Our achievements are a testament to the passion, generosity, and commitment of our families, donors, faculty, staff, and alumni, and their belief in our mission and vision.
The impact of that collective effort can be felt across both our Junior and Senior School campuses. The Four Doors to Learning continue to open meaningful opportunities in academics, arts, athletics, and citizenship. Our dedication to well-being, character development, and leadership remains unwavering and it is clear these values are deeply embedded in the culture of KCS.
As I begin my time as Head of School, I do so with gratitude, excitement, and purpose. I look forward to building on our incredible foundation, and working with this exceptional community to shape the next chapter of KCS together. A chapter that expands possible.
Thank you to all who supported the school this past year. I invite you to explore this Annual Report and Donor Tribute to see the many ways your generosity made a difference.
GARTH NICHOLS Head of School

This year’s Annual Report and Donor Tribute is a celebration of all that we accomplished together during the 2024–25 school year. It is a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported KCS, whether through time, expertise, or philanthropy, and who continues to help us nurture a thriving and exceptional learning environment.
Our volunteers played an important role in supporting school life and enriching student experiences, from assisting with events to sharing their knowledge and skills.
Director of Advancement Hallie McClelland
One of the greatest highlights of the year was celebrating the graduation of our very first Grade 12 class.
This historic milestone was made even more meaningful by the establishment of two new awards through the generosity of donors: the MacLachlan Leadership Award and the STEM Award. These awards recognize excellence, inspire future students, and reflect the enduring commitment of our community to honour achievement and support the next generation of leaders.
We also celebrate the impact of our community’s generosity. Customized donations allowed us to enhance key areas such as music and science, creating more opportunities for students to explore, create, and discover. We honoured Derek Logan’s incredible legacy by naming the Senior School Market Place the Logan Family Market Place, completed fundraising for the JK/SK Outdoor Gym, and supported Health and Well-Being initiatives across the school. Our year of celebration culminated in a joyous retirement party for Derek, where more than 500 members of our current and alumni community came together to express gratitude, share laughter, and celebrate his lasting impact on KCS.
We see once again how much can be accomplished when a community comes together. Every gift of time, talent, and resources helps expand what is possible for our students and strengthens the bonds that make KCS so special.
As we look ahead, we carry this spirit of celebration with us, eager to continue creating exceptional learning experiences, meaningful connections, and opportunities for every student to thrive. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey and helping us shape a bright future.

School year 2024 2025 saw the completion of the Senior School campus in Spring 2025, which provided an award winning space to host the inaugural Grade 12 graduation ceremony and celebrate the retirement of the outgoing Head of School; Derek Logan, together with introducing the new Head of School; Garth Nichols to the community.
The school continues to invest and expand its programmatic offerings and in fiscal year 2025, KCS invested a total of $6,099,609 in capital assets.
KCS continues its philosophy of offering an exemplary educational experience, with numerous outstanding educational programs, clubs, teams, and after-school activities being delivered by an exceptional team of faculty and staff.
In fiscal 2025, the operating deficit of revenues relative to expenses was $1,157,078. The majority of this deficit ($926,460; 80%) was finance costs related to the $21.3 million of longterm debt and the remaining $230,618; (20%) was attributable to an excess of operational and programmatic expenses relative to revenues. Future operating deficits are anticipated to narrow as revenues generated from an
increasing student enrolment grow to cover the annual operational and programmatic expenses, and finance costs.
The realization of a JK-Gr.12 school has been 37 years in the making and is a testament to the continued financial support and commitment of our community. Fundraising ($890,477 in fiscal 2025) remains a key component of our financial plan.
I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the members of the KCS Finance Committee. Their unwavering dedication, insights, and commitment are instrumental in maintaining the financial wellbeing of the school and I feel especially confident for the future as Claudia Durkin takes over the role of Treasurer of School and Chair of the Finance Committee.
In closing, I would like to thank you, our community, for your support and commitment to the school.

At KCS, our students stand out for their readiness to embrace life’s challenges and opportunities in an ever-changing world. We place well-being at the heart of learning, ensuring students are prepared to thrive academically and personally.
Guided by our Four Doors to Learning program and Three School Rules - Respect, Manners, and Try Your Best - we foster curiosity, independence, and resilience from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
In Kindergarten, our youngest learners explore the world through play-based, inquiry-driven experiences that build confidence and foundational skills. Highlights included the joyful JK Alphabet Showcase and the SK students’ thoughtful environmental inquiry. In Grades 1 to 3, students showcased their learning through projects such as the Grade 1 Kindness Showcase, the Grade 2 Animal Habitats, and the Grade 3 Structure Showcase, while strengthening literacy, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.
In Grades 4 to 8, voice, choice, and leadership opportunities are further developed Students engaged in meaningful interdisciplinary projects, from robotics challenges and original mystery writing, to social enterprise development tied to
the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Grade 6 Immigration Showcase highlighted the power of storytelling and family history. The year also brought exciting new resources for collaboration and learning, including robots for Grade 4 and 5 science classes, as well as new instruments for our primary music program. Student leadership roles such as House Captains, Learning Buddies, and Tour Guides provided further opportunities to develop leadership skills.
Our community also came together for much loved events including Wake Up With The Arts, KCS Has Talent, the school musical, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, and special ceremonies - each a joyful celebration of student talent and commitment.
These highlights from 2024-25 reflect not only remarkable student learning, but also the strong, caring community that defines KCS. We are deeply proud of our students’ growth and grateful for the meaningful partnerships that strengthen the KCS experience. As we look ahead, we are inspired by our students’ futures and confident in their readiness for what lies ahead

May brought a landmark occasion as our inaugural Grade 12 class enjoyed their prom aboard a yacht on Lake Ontario. With the Toronto skyline as their backdrop, students shared dinner, laughter, and dancing- an unforgettable celebration of their journeys and friendships. Weeks later, on June 9, we proudly hosted our first Graduation Ceremony. Salutatorian Trevor and Valedictorian Elliot captured the voice of this pioneering class in heartfelt speeches, and every graduate earned the Ontario Scholars Award, an achievement that speaks volumes about their commitment and resilience.
This year also marked the opening of our completed Senior School campus. From the Communications Technology Lab and Makerspace to seminar rooms, quiet study

n extended well beyond our graduates. Every KCS student from JK-12 contributed meaningfully to cross-campus activities, building connections between our two campuses. A new tradition, Canoe to Grade 9, welcomed rising Senior School students with a symbolic journey from the Junior School to the Senior School, marking both transition and new beginnings. Our PATH program continued to flourish, as students shared personal explorations through performances, projects, and reflections that showcased their unique growth and passions.
This year, we celebrated achievements great and small. From the first prom and graduation to the opening of inspiring new spaces, the KCS Senior School is thriving and it is just the beginning. Our students are not only realizing their potential; they are defining what it means to learn, lead, and celebrate together.
