There are five sections to the printed magazine, which differ from the online edition. The sections are: Products, Trends, Featured, Styles and From the Blog. In the Products section, you can find articles about different Whitehaus products that are classic staples in your home. In the Trends section, we dive into kitchen and bath trends, and how Whitehaus is maintaining its reputation as a leader in the industry. Featured is a brief section spotlighting a fabulous designer from New Jersey. In the Styles section, you can find how to incorporate Whitehaus products into different trending styles. From the Blog incorporates some of your favorite features from the website and presents them in a new medium. When we set out to create an online magazine on current trends in the kitchen and bath indusry, we never imagined that it would become such a great success in such a short amount of time. There was a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears put into this issue, and we couldn’t be more proud. I am so honored to have worked with my amazing staff, and this magazine would not have been a success without them. MUST-HAVE FIXTURES

When renovating your kitchen and bathroom, the choices are endless. While having hundreds of options is a good thing, sometimes it can get exhausting and frustrating if you don’t know where to start. We understand that the selection process can be overwhelming, so we created a Whitehaus guide to designing your kitchen and bathroom. Below is a list of our five favorite items, and why they make the perfect choice for any kitchen and bathroom design. These pieces stand the test of time in style and durability, making them an instant classic in the kitchen and bath industry.

BATHROOM

1

PORCELAIN SINK Many homeowners struggle with saving space in smaller bathrooms. Everyone wants luxurious fixtures, but no one wants to sacrifice storage space. With the WH1-114LTB Isabella Collection porcelain sink, you get a lavish piece that lets you dedicate more space to storage. The sink is wall mounted and has an attached towel bar. The faucet hole is available on the left or right, making it versatile in every bathroom.

2

DUAL FLUSH TOILET One of the most important fixtures in the bathroom is the toilet. However, if you have a standard toilet, you could be wasting more than 8 gallons of water every time you flush. The WHMFL3309EB Magic Flush toilet saves water and money by using the dual flush system. There are two different flush settings: partial and full. The partial flush uses .8 gallons per flush, and the full flush uses 1.6 gallons per flush. Both flushes have 600 percent more flushing power than the IAPMO standard. In addition to saving water, the Magic Flush toilet has a soft drop seat. It takes 10 seconds for the seat to fall, eliminating the accidental seat slam. The Magic Flush toilet is also extremely sanitary. The toilet has a glazed dropway, so there is nowhere for bacteria to form. This allows for easy cleaning of the interior, and the skirt allows for easy cleaning of the exterior. With all of these benefits and a chic, European design, the Magic Flush toilet is definitely a must-have for your bathroom. 4

POT RACKS

H

STYLISH & CONVENIENT

anging pot racks are appearing in kitchens across the country as a stylish and resourceful accessory. With two different options of a hanging or wall mount, it is an attractive way to store and display your favorite cookware. Pot racks are being placed in kitchens for their decorative touch, convenience, and to save valuable storage space. A pot rack makes finding the right pot or pan quicker. Just take it off the hook and begin cooking. After washing the pots and pans, you just hang it back up to air dry. Pot racks are convenient and save time to help a busy multitasking chef in any kitchen. There are many different options for finishes, styles, and mounts to create the systematic kitchen you have always wanted. The most popular option homeowners choose is a hanging pot rack that is placed over the kitchen island. Lighting fixtures can also hang from the ceiling, creating a cohesive look. At Whitehaus, our stainless steel hanging pot rack offers a stylish and sophisticated look. This model is offered in three different sizes with the possibility of up to 12 hooks. Additional hooks may be purchased for even more storage. The finish complements any stainless steel appliance in the kitchen and is great for an industrial or rustic designed kitchen. We also offer a stainless steel wall mount pot rack, which comes in three different sizes as well. This pot rack is great for a smaller space, or a kitchen without an island. By getting all those large pots and pans out of the cabinets, homeowners have been able to take advantage of space they never knew they had. Pots and pans are some of the largest cookware in the kitchen. By freeing up cabinets, people can make space for other items that may be cluttering the counters. -T. Connery

ACCESSORIZE YOUR STOVE WITH

POT FILLERS

P

ot filler faucets have been a common fixture in restaurant kitchens, but in recent years, they are becoming more popular in the home. The faucets are installed over the stove and are constructed with hinged arms that fold out when in use and then tuck neatly against the wall. The primary function is to provide water at a convenient location near the stove for filling pots and pans. A pot filler can save time while cooking. Sitting at the sink and watching a pot fill can add time to preparing a meal. After filling up the pot, walking to the stove carefully can also add on a couple more minutes. These days it seems like there are never enough hours in the day. Cooking requires multitasking, and by having a convenient pot filler over the stove, precious time can be devoted elsewhere while the pot fills. Also, by freeing up the sink, there is more room for washing fruit, straining pasta, or filling another pot. Any fixture has to enhance the look of the kitchen, in addition to being practical and functional. Whitehaus's Vintage III pot fillers have an elegant design, adding grace to the kitchen. Offered in a variety of finishes such as Mahogany Bronze, Antique Copper, Brushed Nickel and more, your Vintage III pot filler can complement your other Whitehaus fixtures. The Vintage III pot fillers have a double jointed retractable swing spout with a high tension disc cartridge to prevent leaks. For a more modern kitchen, Decohaus pot fillers have sharp angles and a polished chrome finish. Both Vintage III and Decohaus pot fillers come in wall mount and deck mount. -T. Connery

SINK OF

STEEL The benefits of stainless steel make it a powerful choice when choosing a sink.

Durability When shopping for a stainless steel sink, the gauge will tell you how durable the sink is. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the steel. The most common gauges for stainless steel are 18 and 20. However, most of the stainless steel sinks in Noah’s Collection by Whitehaus have a 16 gauge, making them some of the strongest sinks on the market. The strength of stainless steel is one of the most important features because it won’t stain, dent or chip. If you accidentally drop pots and pans into your stainless steel sink, it will look exactly the same as the day you bought it.

Resistance You can run all the water you want in your stainless steel sink. It won’t rust. It also won’t corrode with chemicals. Stainless steel is one of the most resistant sinks available to purchase.

Life Because of the resistant, durable nature of stainless steel, it provides years of high performance and appearance.

Maintenance Stainless steel doesn’t require special care and cleaning. It is one of the easiest materials to maintain.

Cohesiveness Many people opt for stainless steel appliances, such as ovens, microwaves and refrigerators. A stainless steel sink will create a cohesive look within your kitchen. In Noah’s Collection, sinks with a front apron are offered. Having that front apron creates even more cohesiveness in your kitchen. -S. Epstein 8

FABULOUS

FIRECLAY IN THE

F

LAUNDRY ROOM

or the past few years, the trend for laundry sinks has been stainless steel. They’re durable, sturdy and resilient to cracks and chips. While they match almost every décor, recently people have been opting for Fireclay laundry sinks because they create a softer look than the strength of the steel. There are many benefits to a Fireclay laundry sink besides the look of it. The glazing of the sink surface provides both durability and shine over long periods of time. The raw material used, fine fireclay, allows for uniformity in the finish. The glaze is also practically impervious to threatening bacteria. Stains do not penetrate the glaze and can be easily wiped away. Acids and chemical cleaners have virtually no adverse effect on the sink. The sinks are also not adversely affected by scratches, which can easily be wiped away. Thermal shock (very hot or very cold water) also has no effect whatsoever on our Fireclay kitchen sinks. A lot of time is spent doing chores in the laundry room. Creating a more luxurious space to complete chores in will make the task a little less daunting. In addition to upgrading your lifestyle, investing in a better laundry room will also increase the value of your home.

MEDICINE CABINETS

S

electing the right medicine cabinet can add decor, storage, and convenience to the bathroom. A medicine cabinet can hold many items in an organized fashion, making easy access when pampering yourself for the day. When deciding on a new medicine cabinet there are different styles to consider. A surface mount cabinet comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, and is one of the easiest to install. A surface mount medicine cabinet sticks out from the wall. The average depth is around four inches, but multiple options are manufactured. If the vanity has a deep sink, the reach into the surface mount cabinet is much easier compared to one that is recessed into the wall. If the homeowners are shorter or the bathroom is primarily used by kids, having the medicine cabinet closer will provide easier access. A surface mount medicine cabinet is the easiest to install out of all the different styles. If you want to make a quick renovation to the room with a new coat of paint and stylish accessories, then a surface mount is the best option. It is as simple as hanging a picture frame on the wall. Homeowners are perfectly capable to do it themselves. You also have the option of hanging the cabinet anywhere that it will fit on the wall. 10

Medicine cabinets are made out of all different materials, although anodized aluminum cabinets have multiple benefits. They have an extremely long life span and are very durable. The anodized aluminum cannot be affected by ultra violet rays and will not chip or peel. Soap and water cleaning is all that is needed to restore a dirty surface to original appearance. Medicine cabinets made from this material retain its metallic appearance and have a very pleasant gloss. They are also eco-friendly because in production, anodizing is a safe process for human health and when placed in the bathroom it is non-toxic and will not decompose. Medicinehaus by Whitehaus is a collection of anodized aluminum surface mount medicine cabinets. With various shapes and sizes, there’s a medicine cabinet for every bathroom. Because they’re made of anodized aluminum, they’re extremely strong and durable. To add strength to the aluminum, each medicine cabinet has exceptionally strong hinges. Your Medicinehaus cabinet won’t rust and is extremely easy to install. Each cabinet has mirrored doors and a mirrored back, so you won’t need an additional mirror. On the inside, you’ll find adjustable glass shelves, making your medicine cabinet customizable to your lifestyle. -T. Connery

FLUSH AWAY YOUR WATER BILL

P

eople are always looking for different solutions to become more eco-friendly. In other countries around the world, the dual flush system has been used for a long time. There are many advantages to these toilets besides being eco-friendly, such as conserving water, saving money, and it does not clog easily. A normal toilet, known as a flush toilet, uses between 5 to 6 gallons of pure drinking water per flush. The toilet is flushed on average 5 times per day, resulting in 30 gallons daily. If your home has a big family, can you imagine how much water is being used just to go down the drain? The American Water Works Association Research Foundation found that 30% of household water use is dedicated just to flushing toilets. Homeowners can enjoy the same styles and ease of a flush toilet, but will be rewarded with bonus features by using the dual system. These toilets have two buttons to operate the flush. One allows for a partial flush and one allows for a full flush. The full flush uses 1.6 gallons each time, while the partial setting uses less than a gallon. By using less water, you're saving the environment in addition to your water bill. The dual system also does not clog as easily. When flushed, the waste is easily removed through a large trapway. Therefore, the redesigned toilet reduces clogs.

PRODUCTS

Whitehaus's Magic Flush toilets are three of the best dual flush toilets on the market. With added features such as a smooth, glazed dropway and a soft drop seat, the Magic Flush toilets are innovative and luxurious. The smooth glazed dropway ensures waste flows smoothly to the exit. The soft drop seat has an innovative hinge system that takes ten seconds to fall. The toilet seat is guided down gently without a sound. The stylish and efficient Magic Flush has a classic European design with bonus features, and is a great selection for a dual system toilet. -T. Connery

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

FREESTANDING BATHTUBS Freestanding bathtubs are becoming one of the most popular bathroom trends of 2013. Homeowners are opting to remove built-in bathtubs and are replacing them with a freestanding bathtub and walk-in shower. There’s a lot of information and research required to make the right choice when deciding what type of bathtub to purchase. It isn’t a decision that should be taken lightly, because the bathtub is the most expensive fixture you’re going to purchase when renovating a bathroom. Bathtubs are also essential to the value of a house. If your home doesn’t have at least one bathtub, you’ll never be able to sell it. We compiled all the information you need to know about freestanding bathtubs into one place to make the selection process easier for you!

12

Kitchen Bath Trends by Whitehaus

BENEFITS Freestanding bathtubs are, first and foremost, a design statement. They’re elegant, sophisticated, and will give you the spa retreat feel that you won’t get with a built-in bathtub. The tubs are available in various materials, including acrylic, copper, cast iron, stone and wood. Because it’s not fixed to the wall, you can place the freestanding tub in the center of the room, making it the focal point, as well as easier to clean. Placing the tub in the center of the room also creates the illusion of having more space. The floor can run uninterrupted, especially with freestanding tubs that have legs. Being able to see space under the tub will make your bathroom appear airy with an abundance of space. Freestanding tubs also allow bathrooms to be updated much easier. Flooring can be changed from tile to wood; walls can be painted or wallpapered over and over again without the hassle of a built-in tub.

BATHHAUS Bathhaus is a brand new line of freestanding bathtubs by Whitehaus Collection. We sell six Lucite acrylic and three copper bathtubs in various shapes and sizes. Lucite acrylic is exceptionally strong and durable. It is stain, scratch, chemical and bacteria resistant, as well as hypoallergenic. Lucite acrylic also has the added benefit of being warm to the touch, because we know no one wants to get into a cold tub! The 16 gauge copper bathtubs are handmade and have antibacterial properties. They also become more beautiful with age. Whitehaus also sells three different freestanding tub fillers that are guaranteed to give you the most elegant look when paired with a Bathhaus tub.

HOW TO CHOOSE TRENDS

1. Determine the exact dimensions and installation options

Before you start looking at bathtubs, you should measure the space you want to place it in your bathroom. You don’t want to fall in love with a tub and then find out it won’t fit in the designated space. Since freestanding tubs aren’t mounted to the wall, you’ll also want to weigh your installation options. Hiding plumbing can be tricky, so you should have an installation plan before you start shopping. 2. Research the advantages and disadvantages of different bath materials

The material of your bathtub can make or break the style of the room. In addition to style, you’ll want to make sure your floor can support some of the heavier tubs. Cleaning processes are different for each material, so reviewing how to clean each material will be beneficial to your decision.

wht7368s

3. Find a comfortable fit for the person who will use it the most

If the bathtub is going into a bathroom used by a couple, it should fit the one who uses it the most. If she’s 5’3” and uses the tub twice a week but he’s 6’2” and only showers, it doesn’t make sense to buy a tub that fits him. The extra space that would be needed for a longer bathtub can be used for a larger shower. To find the perfect fit, go to different showrooms and sit in the bathtubs. You’ll want to make sure you’re comfortable before investing in your dream tub. 4. Choose quality over price

Your bathtub is an essential piece in the bathroom. When you’re choosing, don’t sacrifice quality for a lower price tag. You’ll wind up spending that saved money when you have to replace your tub sooner than you thought.

wht8868s wht7369s

STYLE If you’re designing a traditional bathroom, you’re going to want a freestanding bathtub that has smooth edges. An oval freestanding tub is perfect for fitting this style. If you want a more modern, contemporary feel in your bathroom, you should try and stay away from the smooth edges of a traditional bathroom. Tubs with sharper edges, such as a rectangle, will be a better choice for you. For a transitional feel, try a rounded rectangular tub.

TRADITIONAL

MODERN

SHOWER While freestanding tubs are usually seen paired with a large walk-in shower in very spacious bathrooms, you can definitely still use your tub as a shower. If you need to save space but still want a freestanding tub, you can attach a shower head and curtain to the tub. This will give you the two-for-one deal of a built-in tub without sacrificing the style of a freestanding tub.

LUXURY There are many things you can do for the ultimate luxury in your bathroom. Adding a rainfall showerhead above your freestanding tub will create an unparalleled bathing experience. To create an even more appealing aesthetic, you can place your freestanding tub in a large walk-in shower or angle it in the room for an even bigger wow-factor! -S. Epstein 14

A GUIDE TO SINK MOUNTS Choosing the right sink, whether it be kitchen, bathroom or laundry, can be challenging. Most people let the material, shape and size be the deciding factor, without giving much thought to the mounting options. There are six types of mounting options: front apron, drop-in, undermount, above mount, wall mount and freestanding. We compiled what you need to know for picking out the perfect sink!

DROP IN

What is it? A drop-in, or top mount, sink drops into a hole in your counter and has a rim that holds the sink in place. Where should I put it? Drop-in sinks look best in the kitchen or bathroom. What materials does it come in? At Whitehaus, drop-in sinks come in copper, stainless steel, fireclay, vitreous china and porcelain. What are the benefits? Drop-in sinks are the ideal choice for homeowners looking to renovate their kitchen or bathroom themselves. It’s extremely easy to install because the rim reduces the need for an internal support system and creates a more finished look. Because the sink drops into the counter, it hides the cutout, which can sometimes be uneven.

FRONT APRON

What is it? A front apron sink has a large, forward-facing section that replaces part of your counter. Where should I put it? A front apron sink is excellent for a kitchen or laundry room. What materials does it come in? At Whitehaus, we sell front aprons in fireclay, copper, stainless steel and vitreous china. What are the benefits? Because front apron sinks replace part of your counter, they sit closer to you than any other type of sink. This makes a front apron sink extremely ergonomic. When you’re spending a lot of time washing dishes, your back could start to hurt from leaning to reach a sink that is set further back in the counter. The proximity to the edge of the counter makes a front apron sink extremely accessible for children and people living with disabilities. A fireclay or copper front apron sink matches traditional or country style kitchens. If you’re looking for a more modern design, a stainless steel front apron sink is an impeccable way to get the benefits of the front apron without sacrificing modernity.

UNDERMOUNT

What is it? An undermount sink is mounted underneath the counter and does not have a rim, so the edge of the counter drops off directly into the basin. Where should I put it? Undermount sinks are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. What materials does it come in? At Whitehaus, undermount sinks come in copper, stainless steel and fireclay. What are the benefits? Undermount sinks have an extremely sleek, modern look. The counter can run uninterrupted since the edge of the sink is so clean. Since there are no grooves or crevices, undermount sinks are the easiest for cleaning because debris can be wiped straight from the counter into the sink.

ABOVE MOUNT

What is it? An above mount, or vessel, sink sits directly on top of your counter. Where should I put it? Above mount sinks are typically seen in bathrooms. What materials does it come in? At Whitehaus, above mount sinks are sold in stainless steel, copper, porcelain, vitreous china, glass and wood. What are the benefits? The major benefit of an above mount sink is rarity. Having an above mount sink in your bathroom is definitely unique, and will be an eye-catching fixture. In addition to its style, it’s extremely easy to install because you only need a hole in your counter for the drain.

FREESTANDING

Where should I put it? Wall mount sinks are a great addition to any bathroom or laundry room.

What is it? A freestanding or pedestal sink does not need to be mounted to a counter or wall.

What are the benefits? Wall mount sinks are perfect for smaller bathrooms because they save a lot of space. Whether in the laundry room or bathroom, wall mount sinks have sleek lines that create a refined look.

THE GAP Over recent years, there has been an outburst of new kitchen faucet styles, finishes, and features. People have been looking for a new way to update their faucet to complement their kitchen style. A rising trend is the bridge faucet. The unique design comes from the first faucets ever invented, back when plumbing came up through the countertop, and the faucet was soldered to the exposed pipes. The bridge section is an exposed passage way where the water travels. The bridge faucet model has been updated to the modern trends of minimalist designs, worthy of being placed in a professional kitchen. The design is best recognized for its simple lines and open spaces. Each model usually has a spout with a lever or cross handle on each side, connected by a bridge.

20

Kitchen Bath Trends by Whitehaus

Whitehaus leads the high-end industry for the bridge faucet design. The elegant Vintage III model has become a favorite among many. Kitchen styles that will benefit from this design are Vintage, Farmhouse, Rustic, Traditional, Transitional and French Country. The Twisthaus series also makes a unique statement in your kitchen. Rather than having a straight bridge across the faucet, the bridge is twisted. This gives you the same major design features as a bridge faucet, but with the added benefit of modernity and uniqueness. With the twisted bridge, a Twisthaus faucet is sure to be a one of a kind statement piece. Vintage III and Twisthaus faucets are patented by Whitehaus, making them exclusive designs you won’t find anywhere else. -T. Connery

SPRING INTO ACTION A trend of 2013 is focusing on practicality in the home. When you mix the practicality of your fixtures with a stylish room, THAT'S an equation for a perfect kitchen! One of our favorite fixtures that is not only a huge statement piece, but does serious work in the kitchen is a commercial faucet. The harsh industrial look of these faucets can easily be leveled out by a beautiful serene surrounding. The Metrohaus commercial faucets by Whitehaus not only improve efficiency in a commercial setting, but are also a smart choice for residential applications. These faucets are built to withstand the tough environment of a commercial kitchen, and are therefore built to be much more durable than your average home faucet. These faucets have a uniquely modern and industrial design to them, but their looks are all about their function! The spring spout is meant to hold the spray head, which in some models, also has a support arm, and the spout can be pulled down in order to wash large areas. This spring allows the spray head to easily return to it's resting space on its own. Pull-out faucets made for homes have spray heads that must be placed back in order to stay put. This spring makes this motion of using the spray head more time efficient - perfect for commercial use, or in a residential kitchen that is all about hustle and bustle. These faucets can be used as a unique focal point in a residential setting. Even though they are quite tall, standing at 10 1/2", your kitchen will remain a serene space. If this modern look doesn’t suit your kitchen, but you love the idea of faucets that provide precise control and flexibility, these faucets would be a great addition to any laundry room, mudroom, garage, studio, or workshop. A deep stainless steel utility sink and a long Metrohaus spray head faucet are a perfect match for any of these rooms!

These faucets are fantastic at cleaning up sinks because they provide a strong water flow that will minimize the time of any task. Need to fill a bucket with water for mopping or washing cars? It’s not a problem for your commercial Metrohaus faucet! -K. Megargee www.kitchenbathtrends.com

WARM UP WITH

Copper dramatically enhances the feel to the busiest rooms in your home, adding a sense of warmth and serenity with the deep, natural look that the copper carries. Copper’s dark patina perfectly compliments granite and other natural stone materials, and looks stunning with rich, dark wood finishes. At Whitehaus, our Copperhaus is a distinctive collection of elegant handcrafted copper sinks for the kitchen and bathroom. These finely crafted, seamless sinks exhibit a consistent, even finish with careful detailing. These warm and inspiring sinks offer a mixture of traditional and modern designs, finishes, and textures. The Copperhaus kitchen sinks from Whitehaus are available in a number of sizes, from smaller versions for a bar or prep sink, to single, double and triple bowl basin farm sinks. Some styles include embossed designs, which appear on the front of the apron. Most of the Copperhaus sinks are available in a smooth or hammered finish, showing off their handmade appeal, and adding a personal and stylish touch to any home. Copper sinks are also extremely practical. These sinks offer many advantages that cannot be matched by any other type of sink.

Copper is best recognized for its strength, durability, and ageless beauty. One of the greatest benefits of owning a copper sink is the properties of the material - the older it becomes, the more beautiful the finish. This is because copper is a metal that changes and evolves with time as it reacts to various elements. The result of this is a copper sink that exhibits both delicate beauty, solid strength and easy maintenance. The Whitehaus Copperhaus sinks are made at the thickest gauge possible, 14 gauge. Copper is a soft material and the thickness – even just a few points – can have a dramatic effect on how well the sink wears over time. Choosing a thicker gauge sink is well worth it, especially when kitchen sinks receive large amounts of use. Not only are thicker sinks less likely to dent from every day activity such as placing pots and pans in a sink after cooking, they are also less likely to create that tin-like sound from running faucet water, which you may hear in a thinner gauge of copper. At Whitehaus, we are confident that our products will be able to not only stand the test of time, but also everyday wear and tear, and other forces. In a society concerned with being more

environmentally friendly, Whitehaus Copperhaus copper sinks are a great step towards going green, since they are 100% recycled, and are made of a metal that can be reused again and again. Copperhaus sinks are the definition of functional luxury. Keeping these sinks looking beautiful is easy, and, most often, maintenance free. If your copper sink becomes scratched or lightens because of contact with acidic foods, the copper returns to its darker tone naturally over time without effort from the homeowner. This aspect adds to the character of copper sinks. How can owning a copper sink get better, you ask? One of the other hidden benefits to copper makes it one of the best choices for any kitchen or bath - its natural antibacterial properties. It has been found that copper surfaces eliminate more than 99.9% of bacteria known to be human pathogens within two hours. This advantage means that bacteria literally cannot live on the surface of your copper sink, unlike other materials, like stainless steel which can harbor bacteria up to a month if not properly cared for. This is a significant property of copper sinks considering daily health alerts and warnings that are relevant to the modern home. -K. Megargee

VITREOUS CHINA PORCELAIN WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

T

wo materials used for bathroom sinks and toilets today are vitreous china and porcelain. People often assume that vitreous china and porcelain are two different materials, but they are actually made from the same thing. Vitreous china is a glazing technique added to porcelain. So, what are the differences between vitreous china and porcelain? Porcelain is the hardest clay material in the market. The ceramic material is heated in a kiln at an extreme temperature, causing the clay to become less dense and porous. Porcelain is very strong and hard. Visually, the material is translucent and elegant. Porcelain is tough in durability, and soft in visual appearance. Vitreous china is a coating process applied to porcelain. People have been coating objects with enamel since Ancient Egypt. The ancient

civilizations learned how to fuse ceramic material to metal objects to apply plumbing and faucets for a functional sink. When an intense amount of heat is applied to powdered glass, the result is a liquid called vitreous enamel that can be used to coat small objects. Vitreous china is a ceramic material, such as porcelain, that is glazed with that enamel. The vitreous china coating is applied to porcelain fixtures later on in the heating process. This ensures that the glaze lasts the lifetime of your sink. Vitreous china and porcelain cost about the same, however, vitreous china is better at resisting spills, scrapes, or other bathroom mishaps. The high gloss enamel is very durable and creates a stain-resistant surface. Also, vitreous china has sanitary properties which are great for use in the bathroom.

Bathrooms with antibacterial fixtures are easier to clean. Think of vitreous china as a protective armor for porcelain. The smooth enamel surface has great durability, sanitary, and stain-resistant properties. The mix of porcelain and vitreous china creates a clean and elegant piece for the bathroom. At Whitehaus, the Isabella Collection is made of porcelain. These sinks come in various shapes and sizes, and are perfect for a smaller bathroom. The China Series is made of vitreous china. Also perfect for a smaller bathroom, these sinks can be accessorized with a towel bar to save space. -T. Connery

SAVE THE

WORLD

W I T H O U T L E AV I N G YO U R H O M E According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a family of four uses 400 gallons of water every day. Treating and delivering water takes a lot of energy – letting your faucet run for 5 minutes takes as much energy as letting a 60-watt lightbulb run for 14 hours. Older toilets use 60 percent more water per flush as compared to newer highefficiency model. Turning off the tap water while you brush your teeth can save 8 gallons of water a day – that equals about 200 gallons of water saved per month.

Most faucets purchased prior to 1997 were constructed of brass or chrome-plated brass, which contain up to 8 percent lead. The EPA estimates that 10 to 20 percent of human exposure to lead may come from lead in drinking water.

DID YOU KNOW? 10 gallons of your daily water use is lost due to leaks? By repairing leaky faucets and toilets, you can easily save water and money.

ECO-FRIENDLY IS ALWAYS

TRENDY Whitehaus brings you eco-friendly fixtures that are guaranteed to increase your health and decrease your water bills. The hottest trend right now is to go green. People recycle as often as possible, carpool to work and carry reusable bags to the grocery store. However, often times homeowners forget that going green doesn’t have to stop there. Whitehaus offers a number of faucets and toilets that are certified to be eco-friendly. Between kitchen and bath, you can find almost 50 Whitehaus faucets that are certified low lead. These low lead faucets are proven to prevent lead poisoning in consumer products. Some of our favorites in the kitchen are from our Luxe collection. These faucets come in Brushed Nickel and Polished Chrome, so you don’t have to give up style for health. For the bathroom, we love the Metrohaus collection because

of the modern design. These faucets also come in Brushed Nickel and Polished Chrome, so they will match any décor. At Whitehaus, we also have eco-friendly toilets. Our Magic Flush collection of toilets will save an average family of four an estimated 10,000 gallons of water per year, with up to an 84% reduction in water usage compared to alternative toilet systems. Both toilets are made of grade A+ grade china, which is 35-45 mm thick. The inner waste tube of the toilets is glazed, which means 0% absorption. Because of the glaze, there is nowhere for bacteria to cling to, making cleaning a breeze and a more hygienic water closet experience. -S. Epstein

BUILD A COUNTRY KITCHEN Country inspired living is all about being simple and homey. Design is focused on creating a gathering place for friends and family to come together. Guests should feel comfortable enough to pull up a stool and chat with the cook as they prepare a meal. A country style kitchen should bring warmth and personality to the space. The kitchen should be modern in concept, but country in style.

FARMHOUSE SINK A big farmhouse sink is the perfect addition for a country kitchen design. The sink is large enough for all the pots and dishes after a big meal, but also a great focal point for the kitchen. Whitehaus Collection offers a wide variety of farmhouse sinks. The Farmhaus Fireclay series houses over 20 different farmhouse sinks, all in multiple sizes, shapes and colors. You can choose from single or double bowl, and decorative, smooth or fluted front aprons. The 30

majority of Farmhaus sinks are reversible, giving you two sinks for the price of one. Those sinks come in four different colors: white, biscuit, black and sapphire blue. Each sink is made from fireclay, which is one of the most durable materials on the market. It is resistant to stains, scratches and extreme temperatures.

SPACIOUS ISLAND An island is essential for a country kitchen. An over-sized country island makes the kitchen a causal gathering spot and family command center. A common feature found in country styled kitchens is having a second sink in the island. This feature allows easy prepping of meals while still being engaged in conversation. The Elementhaus fireclay sinks by Whitehaus Collection make the perfect addition to a country style kitchen because they’ll match your Farmhaus Fireclay sink. They are small enough to fit right into your island and can be installed as an undermount or drop-in. -T. Connery

SERENITY SHOWER IN THE

A major inspiration for bathroom design is nature. People love the organic and calm emotion that this bathroom style projects. Driven by the natural color tones, eco-friendly products, and relaxing aesthetic, nature inspired bathrooms is a popular trend. One of the most relaxing products you can incorporate in your naturethemed bathroom is a rainfall showerhead, As opposed to traditional shower heads, a rainfall shower head hangs from the ceiling of your shower and the water falls down as if you were standing in a rainstorm. Whitehaus carries rainfall showerheads in many different shapes and sizes. The most nature-inspired rainfall showerhead is the starburst. Shaped like the sun, it’s guaranteed to transport you from your shower to a peaceful meadow. If you like to take trips to the sauna, consider adding a seating area in your shower. You’ll be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the steam and mist created by the rainfall showerhead. If you enjoy relaxing in a Jacuzzi, adding Showerhaus body sprayers along the wall of the shower will simulate the warm jets and also create a sauna effect. The body sprayers add another layer of luxury which can be positioned as massaging jets for a natural hot bath experience. They can be turned on and off and set to the desired power for the homeowner. Nature is beautiful and relaxing and is the number one inspiration for bathroom design this year. Natural hues, eco-friendly products, and organic elements and accessories are some examples of how to accomplish a nature look easily. Open up to the possibilities of a nature bathroom and let it blossom into a peaceful space. -T. Connery

MAKE THE TRANSITION The booming new trend for interior design is Transitional style. Beginning in 2012, the idea has taken over across homes in America offering a blend between traditional charm and contemporary resulting in a classic design. The Transitional style is great because whether male or female it has a simplistic feel that will make the house be inviting and warm. Many people are still confused as to how they can accomplish this style, so here are some tips of what to do and not to do. -T. Connery

THE DO’S

WHFLPLN3318

COLOR

ACCESSORIES

Warm neutrals are the best choice leaning heavily towards one overall color. The palate can include soft whites, gray, cream, biscuit, taupe, or khaki, etc. The chosen neutral color must be represented throughout the entire house. It is okay to have a pop of color, but just one that should remain constant. Spaces with monocratic tones done correctly can be very elegant.

The fun part of design is picking the accessories. Personal style should be incorporated to keep the home from feeling like a museum. A minimalist approach can offer a counterpoint to the furniture. Conceal clutter to maintain a clean and open feeling. A balance between less is more and refined details is the best advice.

FURNITURE

TEXTURE

The best word to describe Transitional style is simple. Choosing pieces that have straight lines or rounded curves will be pleasing to the eye. Follow the shades of the dominant color to find the best furniture. Farmhaus Fireclay sinks make the perfect choice for a transitional design. They are timeless and classic. Pairing a fireclay sink with a Vintage III faucet will create the right feel for a transitional kitchen. 32

Kitchen Bath Trends by Whitehaus

Different textures incorporated into the furniture and accessories provide interest into the rooms composition for Transitional style. Having a silver tall metal vase with a glass table and white leather couch would be a great example. All of the items follow under a neutral relaxed palate, but the diverse textures is what makes the accessories unique from each other.

the don’ts COLOR

ACCESSORIES

Avoid any bright colors as the dominant hue for the house. Transitional style is about simplicity, so do not pick geometric or bright floral patterns. When people step into the house they will be confused and their eyes will be bouncing around the room not being able to find peace in the space.

Multiple large pieces should be replaced with smaller stylish items to create collections. Objects that have pops of color are okay if there are very few of them and are all the same shade. Accessories in multiple different bright colors and are over the top should not be included.

FURNITURE

TEXTURE

Any pieces that would not fit under traditional or contemporary designs should not be included in the home where Transitional stems from those styles. Stay away from furniture that has bold stand out patterns, shaped with odd angles, or is frilly. Remember simplistic and sophisticated is the goal.

Unlike the other categories where items and colors should remain similar, do not follow this with texture. Having similar textures thorough out the room will create an environment that makes it seem as though no one lives in the space. It will be too pristine. Transitional style should be serene and comfortable, not cold and uninviting.
