Region One

I hope that the start of your school year is off to a flourishing start and you still see your purpose and value your role as an important adult and educator in the lives of your students! Please know that we here at the VAME board recognize and appreciate your actions and accomplishments towards advocating and advancing marketing education in Loudoun County. I can say personally that there isn’t another instructional area I’d ever want to be associated with.

I wanted to remind you of our upcoming District Leadership Conference, which will take place at Broad Run High School on Saturday, November 6th.

We need the help of ALL DECA advisors and greatly appreciate your help and support in pulling off this outstanding event for our students. If you need a reminder of which district you will be competing in, here is a handy table to keep by your desk:

In case you haven’t heard, congratulations are in order for one of our own! Dominion’s Bri Owens was named the 2021 VAME Teacher of the Year. VAME has an annual Teacher of the Year (TOY) Award to honor an outstanding marketing teacher in Virginia who exemplifies excellence in teaching. The award was presented at the annual VAME summer conference, on July 29, 2021. This award is sponsored by Johnson & Wales University.

I also wanted to highlight the great work of growing Travel, Tourism, and Destination Marketing within our county! The course has grown from its infancy stages and is now offered in six schools within our county (Briar Woods, Dominion, Loudoun Valley, Freedom, Independence, and Woodgrove) with many more hoping to start it up in the near future.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR VAME is excited to announce that Briana Owens of Dominion High School in Sterling, Virginia was named the 2021 VAME Teacher of the Year.

VAME has an annual Teacher of the Year (TOY) Award to honor an outstanding marketing teacher in Virginia who exemplifies excellence in teaching. The award was presented at the annual VAME summer conference, on July 29, 2021.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their school year so far as we make our way towards the end of the first quarter. As we get back into the swing of things and back to a normal routine, remember to take time for yourself. While we are excited to be back in the building and making relationships with our students, we certainly need to keep ourselves and those close to us a priority. In our next newsletter, I will share some tools and resources that other teachers are using to stay mentally inthe-game heading during the winter months!

UPCPMING DATES Fairfax County Public Schools will be hosting their District Leadership Conference virtually on December 1, 2021. What are your students looking forward to the most about DECA Competition this year? Reach out and let us know!

As you continue to find new resources, try different projects, and create exciting lessons, please don’t forget to share with VAME! We are making sure that all of our members will have access to items you will be able to use in your classes this year.

Region 2 Fall Highlights Woodson DECA students took part in the semiannual Hey Day, an event that allows students to visit different clubs and organizations who are selling items to fundraise. DECA officers made the decision to sell Crumble Cookies and sweet tea to their classmates and it was a big hit!

Region Three

Happy new school year Region 3!

I know it has been a little crazy for everyone so far. Some of you have already completed your first nine weeks and others are about to finish it up. I personally am excited to be back in person and hope everyone stays healthy, so we can continue to have school in person. It has been tougher than normal, but well worth it.

At Riverbend we have already had an ice cream social and a tailgate event with a Hawaian theme to try and boost our membership. We also attended DECA Day at the State Fair. We saw Courtland High School, King George High School and some Prince William County Schools there as well. As usual it was a great day of practice for the many members who participated in the competition as well as another great membership booster.

Also in our region, "King George DECA hosted the National President, O'Brian Martin, on Friday, October 8 as a guest speaker at the Chapter's Member Initiation and Officer Installation. The membership enjoyed OBrians remarks and everyone enjoyed the cupcake reception that followed the ceremony. King George DECA also participated as volunteers for the King George County 62nd Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 9. Members helped set up crafter and vendor booths, help run the games and rides for the fair, and did clean up duty for the festival.

As many of you know, Dee Strauss is our Region 3 DECA Board Member/Representative and you all should have received an email from her about the Region 3 MDA Challenge. Basically each school will be selling $1 and $5 hearts starting October 25 and Ending November 5 to raise money for the MDA. There will be one winning school from each district and one winning district within the region. The winners will have bragging rights for one year and will have done a wonderful thing for the MDA. It should be a fun and rewarding community service activity for your club.

Region Four

Atlee High School Atlee DECA has had a busy beginning of the year.

Their membership numbers have been steadily growing and are currently at 82. They have hosted successful chapter, role-play, and written event meetings for their members.

Forty-nine of their members attended the State Fair Competition and were very successful. Check out the winners; Promotional Campaign (Tri-fold): 1st Place: Baylee Buchanan / Cameron Mottley / Laura Walter 2nd Place: Abby Corey / Mackenzie Halford 2nd Place: Nuria Keel Role Play: 1st: Jaedyn Terrell-Davis / Tori Goodson 2nd: Chance Evans / Hannah Baldwin 2nd: Isabelle Turnauer / Teagan Edmiston Along with making the chapter’s membership shirts, they are also working with other clubs to help make their shirts as well.

Hanover High School After a successful virtual DECA year with state winners and international competitors, Hanover is focusing on having another great year. They began with a strong membership push and have increased their membership numbers to 107, an increase of 32%. This was partly due to the face-to-face State Fair Competition, where Hanover DECA had 76 competitors. This included 4 first place teams and 2 second place teams.

The OLR motivated the officers to plan a year full of promotion, recruitment, competition and community service.
