“Sashimono” is a method for putting together furniture and other wooden objects without nails, utilizing both straightforward and intricate wood joints. For the purpose of joining two boards in a blind joint that is not apparent from the surface, mortises or grooves known as “hozo” are carved into the wood. The term “Sashimono” comes from the custom of precisely measuring wood components with a ruler used for woodworking called a “monosashi.”
