JIAXING TRAIN STATION Abstract: Dubbed as ‘the train station in the forest’. the project is situated at the center of Jiaxing, a city in southeast china that is close to shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou.

Jiaxing is a key city for several major industries.

The existing station had reached its maximum capacity. In addition, the disorder of the surrounding transportation system and a deficient supporting infrastructure had led to a decline in the area surrounding the station. Hence the project brief covers a total area of 35.4 hectares, encompassing the train station, the plazas to the north and south, and the renovation of the adjacent people’s park.

Drawing inspiration from Jiaxing’s historic and cultural contexts, This proposal includes a 1:1 rebuilding of the historic station building derived from archival studies, while creating a new train station underground. The new station will be bright, efficient, and human-scaled, with a flood of natural light to create a friendly, comfortable environment. The main transportation and commercial functions are to be located in the basement level, allowing the ground-floor space to be given back to nature.

Sunken courtyards connect the underground commercial space with the parkland above.

The capacity of the train station will be upgraded to three platforms serving six tracks, in contrast to the previous three platforms serving five tracks, with the main upline and downline becoming two arrival and departure tracks respectively. The overall passenger capacity is expected to reach 5.28 million people per year, with peak-time capacity reaching 2,300 people per hour.

A shared space between Jiaxing’s citizens and travelers, this new green urban center will transform into a “train station in the forest. To the south of the station, a new above-ground commercial area is created, enclosed by landscaped public lawns that can host a variety of events, festivals, concerts, or markets. beneath the urban oasis, a variety of functions and services are connected with each other. for instance, visitors at street level can efficiently enter and exit the hub, while others meander through the park, visit the railway museum, or explore the commercial area before embarking on their journey The scheme’s emphasis on connecting with its surroundings will also serve to increase human activity and visitors to the area, enhance its commercial offering, and ultimately rejuvenate the old city center with a new vitality. I believe that a city’s best urban spaces should belong to everybody. Architecture, sunlight, nature, and fresh air should work in harmony to be shared by all., creating an environment where people can both live and travel with convenience, dignity, and comfort. With construction underway since the end of 2019, the project is expected to be completed by July 2021.

VILLE ON CHAIN Abstract: This Competition proposal is a chain of 12 neighborhood, designed amidst a landscape of agricultural areas, mountains and small villages. By mapping all the data of factors such as existing villages, mountains and hills, agriculture areas, water bodies, mobility infrastructure we created a base for Ville on Chain as distinct neighborhoods, interconnected to form a city. As the districts are developed in a distinct manner, mobility is crucial and this the two largest districts have follow what we set as transport oriented planning. In contrast to the surrounding, a grid block system emerges to create all the urban areas, creating a new network of in-city villages, we label as urban villages. The Jury Commended the Concept of this project and being selected as one of the two finalists is worth mentioning.

“Mangroves are not afraid to wander, endure loneliness, take root in a distant place, and adapt to the harsh environment, which is highly consistent with the spirit of Shenzhen people who dare to fight, dare to pioneer and work hard. Mangroves are the source of memories of Shenzhen Bay super headquarters, and also the spiritual home of Shenzhen people. To extract the ecological characteristics of mangroves, create a multi-functional integration of leisure, office and culture, emphasizing natural ecology, convenience, efficiency and rich experience of “Super Biotopes “.

Combining the shape and functional characteristics of the pillar roots of the mangroves, the core tube of the high-rise building directly falls on the ecological plots, minimizing the footprint and maximizing the reduction of the surface hard paving to restore the natural surface.

ENTROPIC LANDSCAPES_ POST NATURAL INTERVENTION OF FABRICATED TERRAINS Abstract: The scale and severity of humanity’s alteration to the ecological systems by now is well known. In case of many manufactured landscapes, the self-regulating and self sustaining processes of nature have been irrevocably removed as to create conditions whereby spontaneous return of ecological activity is not possible. Conventional reclamation strategies continuously fail due to the absence of economic will and the time consumed to successfully reclaim such terrains surpasses three decades. If left alone, these landscapes continue to deteriorate. This thesis focuses on the very physical existence of such colossal open pit mines in the earth’s surface that occur in the most brittle of environments, where subtle balances formed over millennia are easily disrupted without recognition and are beyond reclaim.

The Proposal is tabulated in two phases. The former being an explicit research on the peculiarity of physically induced aerodynamics caused due to the sheer size and shape of these terrains and the latter a Wind activation system, based on venturi’s principle, which accelerates the aforementioned peculiarity. Variables that form the parameters of design are wind velocity, Pressure, turbulence, volumetric flow rate, Inlet/ Outlet shape, Venturi section, Wind spill rate etc. To prove its potential application in energy generation this proposal presents a multi-objective optimization design framework that is integrated with the Computer Aided Design for geometric variation and Computational Fluid Dynamics software (ANSYS) for aerodynamic computations for the design of an optimised cluster of wind activation systems. The obtained cluster is a functionally-performing hybrid urban landscape based on existing principles and phenomena that could potentially aid residual terrains to become resourceful again.

PHYSARUM - A STIGMERGIC SYSTEM Abstract: The aim is to explore a shift in the design paradigm, from directly defining formal outputs, to the design of behaviors able to operate in information rich environments.

Starting from pervasive data inputs as operational substrate, to design basic behaviors for a multi-agent based system able to grow, building coherent compounds, which are not only responsive geometries, but are constantly assessed by an internal feedback system. All agent based proposal were applied in a cylinder with a radius of 20cms and height 150cms. A stigmergic environment was generated applying forces and the Final outcome represented an agent based structural column informed by a specific stigmergic environment.

COCOON _ A KERFING EXPERIMENT Abstract: Inspired by the caterpillar’s cocoon, a geometry was developed to fabricate a lamp that would not only resemble the insect’s monocoque case but that would also challenge the wood bending technique of kerfing.

The final patterns are a result of various iterations that since the beginning sought to experiment on the synclastic and anticlastic behaviors in a surface while at the same time allowing them to display a pleasing illumination. Because of the organic nature of the cocoon, the joinery system for the lamp is based on small protuberances extending from the pattern’s end and interlocking with matching holes on the adjacent surface.

NOMADIC FOLDS Abstract: Nomadic Fold creates an inspiring gateway and an unifying interactive space for the Nowhere Festival. Created with natural Bio-composite materials and sounds heard at the desert, the sky and the people, the pavilion gives the feeling of passing through another dimension in space that people have the ability to touch, experience and change the space by their own presence. Portable, lightweight and easy assembling system which is inspired from a Nomadic lifestyle . The space becomes an attractive gathering point for different kinds of activities such as meditation and collective music practice.

The bio-composite is achieved through the combination of timber frames, jute fibres and resin. The material used for the resin in the pavilion is Colofono, which is a combination of pine resin and olive oil. The pine resin itself is too brittle to work with on its own, therefore, olive oil has been added in order to plasticise the composition.

The olive oil has high oleic acid, which helps to make the material malleable.

Tests have been conducted to establish the optimum combination of materials. A recipe of 90% pine resin to 10% olive oil has been established to be the best blend for the fabrication process, to apply to the jute and fly fibres; it is strong and the brittleness of the material is lowered.

Geometric Configurations The model has been developed around the structural value of origami shapes. Rather that aiming towards a specific shape, the innate structure of folding has been used to generate the form. Therefor the purpose of this pavilion is to create a light weight bio-composite structure, meaning that organic materials are to be used to generate a structural form that can be made, fabricated and manoeuvred by people.

Robotics This has been tested to work best with the Kuka tool, which is necessary for the weaving of the jute thread. The robotic arm has 6 points of rotation to have 360 degree access to the timber base. Working in X, Y + Z axis, this tool has greater flexibility than common place fabrication tools such as a CNC machine, as well as being more efficient than manual processes. For this project, the robotic arm is used to weave the jute thread based on a computationally generated pattern. Therefore, these threads are to be sandwiched between wooden panels to give the structure the ability to fold and hold.

ALMIGHTY_ DESALINATION USING SOLAR ENERGY Abstract: ALMIGHTY aimed to explore the ambiguous links existing between energy and society. The design proposed to systematize the research from a design and make methodology, getting in touch with fabrication logics and design strategies. We built a machine capable to manage sunlight while activating new social spaces, strategic engagements or community-making processes.

ALMIGHTY uses solar energy and natural filters, such as oysters and moringa seed, to solve the water problem in Barcelona through desalination process. The whole prototype is set up in a specific site on the coastal area of Besos, where we propose social farming to create employment, maintain the area and activate the space.

Tasks: Concept Research & Development, Prototype design(Laser cutting, CNC molding, Vaccum foaming), Computation(Dome optimization using Galapagos).

CLUBHOUSE AT VAISHNAVI TERRACES Abstract: The club is a deliberate and stacked composition of programmatic floor plates, numbering 7 in all. Each of the Floors is a separate world in itself, each a different “act” in a “ performance” which makes up the tallest club in Bangalore. It Exhibits a complementary programs with a full spectrum of activities where one ascends through a series of event spaces in an upward movement to pursue one’s interests.

The staircase was designed as an internal office @ Vaishnavi Terraces, Bangalore Coloured Floor Plates CLUB-HOUSE Scale-1:125 BIM modeling competition.

My proposal evolved from the very principle the building was designed with. The continuity of the flow was miniatured in the form of steel fabricated staircase as well as a false ceiling element. Morphing of the steps aides its dynamic appearance and hanging effect.

METRO STATION AT BOMMASANDRA, INDIA Abstract: Metro with their scale and ability to animate towns with human movement & life are essential urban buildings. The architecture of the stations together with the rolling stock design, present a corporate image of the systems to the general public and is likely to have a significant effect. The hierarchy of the design is as follows. To understand urban design principles, the Legal constraints, the design standards and details pertaining to an urban transit complex.

Around 20 % of the people wait to pick up others. Provision of display hall helps in managing this crowd. The Hall displays works, paintings models and collections of the metro station. Linear circulation gives clarity in the permeability for the users. Accessibility for handicapped is delineated using tactile flooring and separate elevators are provided.
