The Importance of Nature in Our Lives Numerous studies have highlighted the importance of nature in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that spending time in nature significantly reduces cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress. Furthermore, renowned biologist E.O. Wilson coined the term "biophilia," suggesting that humans have an innate connection to nature, and being in natural environments can enhance our mood and cognitive function.
Light Therapy Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, can be a powerful tool for enhancing our well-being, especially during the darker months of the year. Exposure to natural light helps regulate our circadian rhythm, which in turn can improve sleep quality, mood, and energy levels. Incorporating light therapy into your daily routine, either through spending time outdoors or using light therapy lamps indoors, can have significant benefits for our overall health.
30 Days of Nature's Healing Touch Come along on this month-long journey as we delve into a program designed to deepen our connection with nature and embrace its positive effects on our well-being.
Week 1: Understanding the Circadian Rhythm The Circadian rhythms are the body's natural clocks, regulating sleep, hunger, hormones, and more. Light exposure plays a major role in the proper functioning of the circadian rhythms. Day 1-7: Within 30 minutes of waking, get some sort of light exposure, natural being best. Open blinds, drink coffee on the balcony, or even go for a quick walk. If it’s still dark when you wake, turning on lights as soon as you wake is still effective. Milestone: By the end of week 1, you should start experiencing the immediate benefits of increased light exposure.
