DIRTBAG Magazine

Mini-zine Brand & Identity

Using layout and accompanying visuals to create an exciting and bold mini-zine.

Design Brief

DIRTBAG MAG was created to be an arts & culture magazine for alternative audiences. The goal was to have a traditionally readable editorial layout with added flare through visual elements .

Execution

I used Adobe InDesign to create each page layout and Adobe Photoshop to manipulate the accompanying imagery. Adobe Illustrator was used to create lively doodles that resulted in a very graphic magazine with an unmistakable visual identity.

grassroots flea market

Promotional Poster Series

Using versatile layouts and illustrations to appeal to an eclectic target market.

Design Brief

GRASSROOTS Flea Market is a fictional vintage flea market in Providence, Rhode Island. The challenge was to create wildly different posters that all advertised the same thing.

Execution

Using Adobe Illustrator to digitize my own artwork, I built and finalized each of these posters using Adobe InDesign. Inspiration for these posters ranged from art nouveau adverts, punk/ alternative art of the 80s/90s, and vintage gardening packaging.

Book Cover Re-Design

Giving new life to a basic book cover in order to draw in new readers.

Design Brief

I was tasked with re-imagining a book cover of my choice. This collection of essays has a lot to say about the silencing of female voices, but the original cover is lacking in its presentation of such scandalous information.

Execution

I turned to redacted documents and the sanitation of information for the overall look of this cover. I used Adobe Illustrator to create this book cover and scanned my own ink markings for the black bars.

New order font book

Typography and Layout

Highlighting the history and anatomical facts of the New Order type family.

Design Brief

I was tasked with creating a font specimen for a type family of my choice. New Order drew my attention with simple curvature and sleek look, all of which would be highlighted in the book.

Execution

Using Adobe InDesign to layout and manipulate the typeface and individual characters, the font specimen book maintains a simple design to highlight the uniqueness of the typeface.

Bone yard tattoo care

Brand Identity & Package Design

Playful packaging design that appeals to hardcore and beginner audiences.

Design Brief

Bone Yard Tattoo Care is a fictional company offering products for tattoo enjoyers. The products needed to have flair that would appeal to a more hardcore audience, but also feels welcoming to individuals getting their first tattoo.

I used Adobe Illustrator to digitize my own artwork to create the pattern and skeleton icon. I built and finalized the packaging and vehicle wrap in Adobe Photoshop.

Edgy type poster series

Brand Identity & Package Design

Using the unique features of differing font families to create a cohesive series.

Design Brief

I was tasked with designing a series of typographical posters as a way to explore and utilize typefaces as design elements instead of body copy. Each poster needed to explore its own font family while still maintaining one aesthetic style.

Execution

Each poster was created in Adobe Illustrator in order to treat the individual characters as vector objects instead of type boxes. I maintained the black, white and red color choices to make the three posters to be visually cohesive despite the differing fonts.

PERSONAL ARTWORKS

Fine Arts Skills

Extensive fine arts experience leads to a unique design perspective.

Design Brief

I approach every piece of artwork I create with myself as the audience in mind. This helps me flex a different muscle than client minded design work. This helps build a strong creative process with everything I do.

Execution

My favorite ways to create is charcoal relief drawings or acrylic paintings, but I’ve worked in everything from oil pastels to colored pencils or mixed media collage.

fleeting bodies

Charcoal Relief

Firgure drawing collection based on the techniques of William Kentridge.

Design Brief

I was inspired by South African Artist William Kentridge’s style of animation. I wanted to show the impermanance of the body and how insecurity and fixation on something ever changing is useless for the mind.

Execution

For this piece, I used vine charcoal and pressed charcoal on Rives paper for each drawing. Each piece was created on the same paper, and once one was completed, it was smudged away. This shows how impermanant the form is, the ghost of each previous piece evident in the following one.
