Tents & Shelters Our tent range has something to suit your camping adventures – whether you’re heading into the hills on an overnight hike or relaxing around the campsite with family and friends. Use this information booklet to help you pick your perfect tent. • Pick a tent equipped to withstand the harshest conditions you might encounter. If you’re a three-season backpacker travelling in Europe, consider a four-season tent as winter could come early. • Consider the ventilation within your tent. Good ventilation should achieve two things – reduce condensation on the underside of the fly fabric and provide regular air exchange within the inner tent for cooling and reducing CO2 build up. • Weight is an important factor if you ever plan to carry your tent and will potentially influence your decision between different models.

Weight
Tunnel Tunnel tents offer the best space to weight ratio and are fast and easy to set up. They rely on good anchors at each end, otherwise the structure can collapse. Tunnel tents are more aerodynamic when pitched end-on into the wind, and better when pitching area is at a premium.
The North Star v3 and Lansan tents all feature DAC poles. These are recognised as one of the best tent poles currently available for lightweight tents. Each tent model has individually configured pole sets (length, diameter and type) based on the tent’s end use and structure. The Taku, Bora and mono tents use Alloy Poles.
Geodesic
Easy Set Up
Geodesic tents are heavier than tunnel tents for the same size and take a little longer to erect due to their more complex structure. However, due to their freestanding nature they are easier to position and less reliant on anchors for stability. They are also less sensitive to wind direction and more rigid. Geodesic tents are generally the preferred choice for situations with strong winds and snow loading.
Colour-coded poles and pole sleeves eliminate unnecessary guesswork. Mesh pole sleeves on the Tunnel models, and a combination of mesh pole sleeves and clips on the Geodesic designs ensure easy and efficient set up.
This is an important factor if you ever plan to carry your tent and will potentially influence your decision between different models more than any other factor. By choosing the highest quality lightweight materials available, the strength and durability of your tent are not compromised while maintaining the lowest possible weight for each model.

Ventus® by Kathmandu The Kathmandu Ventus® system features uniquely designed intake vents that effectively promote airflow and cooling by capturing the external moving air and channelling it into the inner tent via strategically positioned mesh panels or doors.
Condensation and Ventilation The impact of condensation includes: a heavier tent to carry, moisture transfer from the wet fly to other gear when packed and wet vestibules and doors to negotiate as you enter or exit the tent. Condensation is the result of warm air or vapour changing to liquid due to cooling. In the case of a tent, the warm humid air occupying the inner tent moves through the breathable inner tent fabric, condensing as it hits the cooler tent fly. Good tent venting should achieve two things – reduce condensation on the underside of the fly fabric and provide regular air exchange within the inner tent for cooling and reduced C02 build up.
The key benefits of the Ventus® by Kathmandu system are: • Allows the warm moist air to escape reducing condensation. • Enable air flow that cools the inner tent improving user comfort on warm days. • Is fully adjustable so comfort and weatherproofness are not compromised when the temperature drops.
