USAG Bavaria ACES deployment in support of Black Sea Area Support Team Susanne Prindall flips through her notes for the 15th time as she scans over upcoming to-do lists, training slides, and safety briefings. Highlighting a last-minute trip to the store, Susi takes a minute to mentally process January 2, 2017—her deployment date to Romania and Bulgaria to support the Black Sea Area Support Team, or BSAT. Despite beginning her position as Education Services Specialist in June 2016, Susi has made giant leaps in the Hohenfels community toward educational resources available at the Education Center.

“This deployment/developmental assignment is a great opportunity for me to grow on a professional and personal level,” Susi said. “My hope is to learn new skills, knowledge, and abilities that would not otherwise be available through my normal job duties.”

Monthly Tips for: Tuition Assistance

BSAT is an initiative designed to strengthen the relationships between the United States and its Eastern European allies. According to the European Center for Security Studies, the U.S. plans to become a long-term presence in Romania and Bulgaria.

Susi will be providing organizational and cultural support as a part of this initiative during her deployment.

“As a result of learning these additional skills, and gaining new knowledge and abilities, I will return to USAG Bavaria and ACES as a well-rounded employee with operational insight outside my regular day-to-day responsibilities,” she said.

Susi will return to Hohenfels March 12, 2017.

“I feel like it is important to be an integral part of the IMCOM team and to support the overall mission of the U.S. Army,” she said. “I am beyond excited about this opportunity and would like to thank everyone who is supporting me in this adventure.”

The Tower Barracks Education Center bids farewell to their Education Specialist, Erin Sorensen. With both sorrow and excitement, Sorensen will PCS to Fort Myer, Virginia in January.

“I would like to express gratitude to the community for helping to make my time with USAG Bavaria Army Continuing Education System (ACES) deeply rewarding,” she said. “I also want to thank the Education Center staff of MES Corp., employees of affiliated schools and universities, and collaborating agencies. The coordination and support by each colleague has been a highlight of my time with ACES.”

The greatest joy of Sorensen's time as an Education Services Specialist was the pleasure of helping Service Members create and work toward their career and education goals.

“I am optimistic for the future of the organization, and I wish for continued success for the USAG Bavaria community.”

Tuition Assistance, or TA, is a paid benefit for eligible Soldiers to have up to 100% of tuition costs covered. Eligible Soldiers can receive $250 per semester credit hour, totaling 16 semester credit hours per fiscal year. For more information about tuition assistance, visit GoArmyEd. Taking Tests at your Education Center!

The Education Center helps Service Members and their Families achieve academic excellence. Testing services are available for all Service Members and their family members, and DoD card holders who wish to take an exam at the Hohenfels or Rose Barrack Education Centers.

The Army Personnel Testing (APT) program encompasses standardized tests to determine eligibility for specialized training and to support the Army's personnel selection and classification process, including language proficiency testing. The program is governed by Army Regulation 611-5, Army Personnel Selection and Classification Tests (10 June 2002).

All APT testing done by appointment only at the Rose Barracks and Hohenfels Education Center.

For all other tests available, please call CIV 09662-83-2753.

The ACT and SAT exams are available to eligible Service members on a DANTES-funded basis when taken at a DANTES Test Site. Service Members applying for college admission, an officer accession program, military-sponsored academy, or professional program may require a current ACT or SAT score to include with their application packet.

Are you in the Air Force? Then take advantage of your time in Germany by visiting the Rose Barracks Education Center where Air University Testing is available!

The National Test Center (NTC) at the Rose Barracks Education Center offers on-site testing services to include College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), and Pearson VUE online examinations and certifications.

The NTC is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 0830 to 1230, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 0830 to 1430.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES Program Coordinator Employment opportunity The UMUC-Europe office is seeking a Military Education Coordinator to begin immediately at the Hohenfels Education Center. The Military Education Coordinator (MEC), or Program Coordinator, reports to and works with the Assistant Director (AD) in the administration of UMUC programs. It is the job of the Program Coordinator to ensure that quality services are provided to all current and prospective students, and to be responsive to students and student issues.

The Program Coordinator must work effectively with the Regional Director, local military education coordinators and staff, education center personnel, faculty, administrative staff in Hohenfels, and the military community at large.

A high school diploma or GED is required. For additional requirements and duties of the Program Coordinator, please visit UMUC’s career page.

Counselor Does going to school count toward promotion points?

Hi, SPC Smith, yes it does! If you are just going to 1 university you can take an official copy of your transcript to your S1!

I have gone to 3 schools, can I still do that?

You will have to get copies of all of your transcripts and bring them to the ed center so I can make a memo for you.

And this can only be done if you are currently enrolled in the university.

Can I submit tests for points, too?
