CDC President’s Message Rachael Gately
The 125th anniversary of the Continental Dorset Club is here. As one of the premier breeding sheep groups in the United States, we have a lot to be proud of. As breeders, we have come together to showcase our breed in all its diverse forms. Our Horned Dorsets, Polled Dorsets and Dorset Advantages are well-made, functional sheep, and there is a place for all of them, no matter how we choose to present our flocks. The Dorset is a powerhouse, multipurpose breed, known for yearround breeding, great mothering and high efficiency production. Together, we are putting these characteristics to work, whether our flock is several hundred head in commercial production or two ewes in a young 4H-member’s starter flock at home.
As our group heads into this special year in a world filled with controversy, let’s stick together and continue to shine. We shall continue to set strong examples for the young breeders. Diversity within a group is a positive; it makes us stronger. Breeding and registering sheep with honesty and integrity is the right thing to do. Enjoying what you’re doing while you’re doing it drives longevity. I hope the Continental Dorset Club and the variety of Dorsets it represents has a long and bright future. Let’s continue to work together to keep us at the front of the pack. See you all in Ohio in March and Sedalia in June!
