2023 All American Heading Back To Madison

this year’s show! This will be the fourth year for the expanded show schedule in which major activities are done on Thursday, it has worked out great the past two All Americans’ to allow more time for all of the activities associated with the All American. The show will start an half hour earlier on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 AM to help keep things on schedule with this expected large show. Please keep an eye out on the All American Junior Show website at: allamericanjuniorshow.com for announcements on the show moving forward. Entries close May 25th.

The 2023 All-American Junior Sheep Show is going to be held at the Alliant Energy Center, Madison, WI from June 29-July 2, 2023. This will be the show’s second visit to Madison and the last time it was there it broke an attendance record so another large show is expected. The Wisconsin planning committee is working hard to make it another excellent showing experience for all of the AAJS exhibitors and their families. New to this year’s schedule will be a professionally organized AAJS Cornhole Tournament on Friday night and the popular Ag Olympics is coming back for Saturday night fun. The Mary & Harry Blome Pizza Party will be held Friday night and there will also be a BBQ for exhibitors and families on Saturday evening. All activities will take place right at the show site which is a big convenience for the show families. The judges have been lined up for the show, they are Skip Anderson, Brad Ellerbrock and Randell Vonkrosigk. We are grateful to have these experienced evaluators for the event!

The show will feature classes for both Fitted Polled, Slick Shorn Polled & Horned Dorsets and Dorset Advantage breeding sheep and market lambs. The Polled Dorset show has been split into two separate shows, Fitted and Slick Shorn. The AAJS will be doing a Supreme Champion Ram & Ewe drive on Sunday once again. The National Junior Dorset Association is planning a social activity for Dorset exhibitors on Thursday late afternoon/evening. All of the shows will be livestreamed by the AAJS on their new you tube channel. Watch for details on this closer to the show date. If you have never attended an All-American Junior Show please make plans to attend this very special event! It is much more than just a sheep show as there are several activities for the whole family. Several events are in the planning stages for the exhibitors and their families to enjoy including the Friday Opening Ceremony State Exhibitor Parade, the Ice Cream Social on Thursday, Lamb Camps for our younger exhibitors, and the Southdown Junior Association hands out Root Beer Floats for the exhibitors on Sunday. The show of course also offers several educational activities for our exhibitors including a judging contest, skil-a-thon contest, several promotional contests, a wool show, leadline and dress-a-sheep classes, plus individual and team showmanship classes beside the breed and market lamb classes. A fun virtual shearing educational activity has also been added along with Leadline and Dress-A-Sheep competitions.

The AAJS also supports the college age exhibitors by doing a scholarship program. There will be 25 breeds represented at

2023 Dorset Youth Grant Program Winners Announced

The 2023 winners of the Dorset Youth Ewe Purchase Grants are Senior Division: Denali Bosco, OR; Intermediate Division: Zoey Jacob, NC and Ellie Ann Johnson, AR; and Junior Division: Jayci White, KY and Chloe Knepper, IA.

All recipients will receive $500 towards the purchase of a registered, purebred Dorset ewe. The CDC received 89 applications from well deserving youth, hence additional grants were added for the Junior and Intermediate age group which had a large number of applicants. The applicants range from youth just starting out with their sheep projects to those looking to improve the quality of their Dorsets or looking for another breed to get involved in. It was nice to award five grants this year to help get out funding to young Dorset breeders to assist them in getting their Dorset breeding programs established. It is inspiring to see all of the sheep industry’s youth from across the country interested in getting more established in the Dorset breed. The ewe grant program awards at least one grant to the following three age divisions: Junior 8 to 10 years of age; Intermediate 11 to 14 years of age; Seniors 15-18 years. Additional questions have been added to the application and a scoring rubric has been developed for the selection committee. Don’t miss out on applying for these grants next year. December 1st deadline. Applications are available on the CDC website: www.continentaldorsetclub.com
