Prototype design studies were done while working for Pfluger Architects, for a school district that was looking to streamline the design, budgeting and construction process of future elementary school buildings. The graphics for the four prototype layouts were created from Sketchup along with Illustrator for client presentations and approvals.

These renderings were created in Enscape for client presentations while working at Pfluger Architects as a part of redesigning the vehicular and pedestrian entry points to a local community college. The concept was to create topography change within a very flat campus by mounding the area surrounding the signage with colorful plantings and commissioned monumental art pieces to create focal points producing astronger sense of arrival to the campus.

This project was based in the former Jewish ghetto in Rome, Italy. We started by researching the area including who visted this area and what surrounded the area. This area is still home to many Jewish people so we started to do more research partaining to the Jewish culture such as holidays.

The tree must be rooted deep in order to grow high. There is a special connection between growing in opposite directions to be able to reach the fullest potential. To grow tall, you have to also grow low, to move forward you must also take steps back, and to grow into something you must also be rooted to something. This library provides citizens of the Jewish Ghetto the ability to root themselves so that they can sprout into their greatest potential.

During my Study Abroad experience, I was able to study both historic temples and contemporary architecture in Japan and South Korea. In Japan, we took day trips to Yokohama and Osaka. In South Korea we stayed in Busan for a few days and saw the country side on the way to Seoul, traveling by bus. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to experience the food and culture while traveling through Asia.

Documentation of my experience was produced by visiting the location first, taking many pictures, and starting a preliminary sketch while at the location. Then I studied each location more in depth by diagraming features that I noticed were important while walking around. I then added more detail to my preliminary sketches.

8 week project, 1 week 3D printing Booker T. Washington School, Stillwater, OK Spring - 3rd Year Deliverables: four 20x20 boards and a 3D printed section of steel connections

Structural Steel Details

Washington School holds much of Stillwater’s African American history. Before this school was built and opened in 1900 the closest schools for African American students were in Guthrie or Norman. The majority of the African American community of Stillwater was within the blocks that surround the school. This was because the school and most of the other blocks are in the floodplain of Stillwater Creek. Booker T. Washington School opened in 1938 to served the black community of Stillwater as a highschool. This school became a place not only for students to get an education but also a place for the community to gather.

Additions such as an auditorium, and East and West wings, to the school were made in 1951 to better serve the community. Even after the school closed in the 1950s, after segregation was declared unconstitutional with Brown v. Board of Education, the school became a place for marginalized groups in Stillwater to meet and an after school program took over the majority of the building. This is one of three historic black schools left in Oklahoma, which is why this is a great opportunity to highlight the history that this building holds.

The long circulation addition to the building is a great tool to display the history the building holds and the importance it has to the community. Visitors will walk through the glass entry way into either the atrium space or the glass circulation that leads to the front makers space, lobby, and offices. The glass circulation creates a place of reflection with the existing facade next to the new glass encasement and the reflecting pool outside. The original brick facade pays homage to the history this building and the community involvement in the preservation of the building. The new steel trusses reflect the older historic ones with a modern twist with the use of round HSS members welded together. The exterior arcades also use round HSS columns with square HSS members and wide flange members that frame congregated steel panels within the arcades. These steel structure accents help to frame the interior and exterior spaces within the site. The outdoor gallery that runs east to west in line with the buildings main axis, with sail shades and large framed displays for art created by students and community members. The outdoor spaces provide a place for the community to gather in many different ways, through the pickleball courts and large swings. These activities also provide students with ways to decompress and relax after studying at school.

Round HSS Column

The addition to the existing building is classified as an edge to edge insertion because the addition touches the existing building lightly in the sense of form and material. The new material used throughout the building was used to highlight the original materials such as brick and steel. The glass components encase the old facade in order to highlight the historic facade. the steel components tie into the building through the interior HSS trusses and the exterior arcades(shown above) that include round HSS member, square HSS members and wide flange members with both welded and bolted connections in order to provide shade and seating areas around the building.

This project was an adaptive reuse project for the Booker T. Washington School in Stillwater, OK. This school is one of only three historic black schools left in Oklahoma. It has been abandoned and overlooked for many years. The City of Stillwater and a group of professors from Oklahoma State are working towards revitalizing the school.

We were tasked with taking the now abandend Washington School and turning it into a Design School and after school program for children in Stillwater.

D E SI G N-BU I LD F L AT PAC K CHAIR 8 week project, 4 weeks building Spring - 3rd Year Deliverables: Built Chair and booklet

This rocking chair was inspired by the motion of rocking and a circle. We decided to use the rule of thirds to breakup the circle profile of the chair as it is used as a graphic standard.

Through concept sketches we added arm rests and a fin in the back to make sure a person couldn’t fall backwards.

This project used one sheet of plywood, wood glue, and a few fastening screws. We created CNC drawings in order to cut out our chair.

F O LK M USI C I N T E R PR E T I V E CENTER 6 week project, 1 week master planning Lake Arcadia, OK Fall - 3rd Year Deliverables: 11x17 booklet and Masterplan

This project site is between Route 66 and Lake Arcadia. Route 66 is a historic highway that many travel on every year to see the many attractions along the highway. We were tasked with creating a Folk Music Interpretive Center along Route 66 and Lake Arcadia, as well as masterplanning a Route 66 style motel and a restaurant. My inspiration for this project was my own journey with music, which started at a young age by learning how to play the piano.

This project utilized Chicago’s many vacant lots to turn them into something where the community can gather. I started this project with looking at Autonomous Form models and looked at how they could define the form of the community center. I chose to express the circulation using one of the concept models.
