One such collector, Margaret Tyler, has turned her passion towards amassing a unique and cherished collection of Princess Diana and Royal Family related memorabilia. Margaret’s collection not only pays homage to the iconic royal figure but also offers a glimpse into the life and legacy of the woman who captivated the hearts of millions and of a monarchy that has stood the test of time.

Margaret Tyler, a retired bed-and-breakfast owner from London, has happily spent thousands of pounds transforming her traditional home in tribute to the Royal Family – and to her, it has been worth every penny.

Every room in her semi-detached home in Wembley, North West London, apart from the kitchen (but even that has nods to her Majesty,) is covered in royal collectibles Sarah’s collection boasts an astonishing array of treasures, each carefully chosen to reflect a distinct aspect of Princess Diana and the royal family’s legacy. From rare photographs of Diana’s humanitarian endeavors to replicas of the tiaras worn by generations of queens, Sarah’s collection is an eclectic tapestry that weaves together moments from history.

Margaret started her larger than life collection around 40 years ago when she bought her very first piece of memorabilia; a dish with an image of the Queen on it, that she got at a fair. And now even the exterior of her home is decorated in red, white and blue, with a model of the Queen’s Guardsman guarding her front door.

Speaking to The Mirror, Margaret says: ‘I don’t go on holiday because I get bored very quickly. If there’s not a castle or royals there I’m not interested. This is what I enjoy spending money on. People have even knocked on my door before asking if it’s a museum and what my opening times are.’

Margaret even has an entire room dedicated to Princess Diana, with the floor clad in carpet from the luxurious Lanesborough Hotel on Hyde Park Corner in Central London. Back in 1995, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a party for their staff there and when Margaret found out from a friend that the hotel was being refurbished, they bought it for her to have in her home.

‘A lot of people give me items. The only item I think is missing from my collection is something of Diana’s. I’d love a small item of her clothing,’ Margaret says.

In preparation for the historic Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Margaret has been busy preparing her Jubilee room which is full of mementos from every stage of the Queen’s 70-year reign. She has also made sure to snap up some of the latest souvenirs, including a plate that cost over £300.

In addition to the pieces that she has purchased herself, her collection is made up of gifts that she has received from her four now-adult children over the years, incl-

uding a mannequin of the Duchess of Cambridge in a replica of the navy blue dress that she wore for the day of her engagement.

Margaret, who was nine when the Queen was crowned back in June of 1953, says that the Queen’s sense of duty to the nation is what has caused her to continue to be such a superfan.

‘The way she’s looked after us over the years has been fantastic. There’s something magic and intriguing about her,’ Margaret adds.

In a cozy home nestled in Cardiff, Wales, a magnetic spectacle awaits those who dare to enter. Tony Lloyd, a 64-year-old former schoolteacher, has turned his passion for collecting fridge magnets into a remarkable journey spanning over three decades. With a staggering collection of 5,000 magnets from more than 120 countries around the world, Tony’s magnetic marvels now adorn every available inch of his living space. But Tony’s magnetic obsession didn’t stop at his fridge; it expanded to encompass his entire home.

Tony’s fascination with magnets began innocently enough during an exchange trip to Australia, where he encountered a fellow teacher’s magnetic trove. Inspired by what he saw, he decided to start his own collection. His very first magnet, a souvenir from Sydney Opera House, still holds a special place in his heart and his collection to this day.

“As I traveled around towns in Britain, I would bring back a fridge magnet,” Tony recalls. “I have been to 102 countries, but I have magnets from 120 countries because people give them to me as presents. A lot of my students and their parents would bring me magnets from their holidays.”

The magnetic mementos, once confined to his classroom walls, had to find a new home after Tony’s retirement. He brought 1,000 of them home, and soon, his kitchen, hallway, and dining room were all enveloped by these tiny, captivating keepsakes. Collecting things is fun. For me it’s the hunt - I love baskets and bowls, so when I go anywhere I always peek into antique stores or handmade markets to see what I can find. But this paragraph from one of my favourite books - Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh - reminds me to enjoy the hunt but keep the things I actually collect to a minimum, so they’re special. “One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few. One moon shell is more impressive than three... For it is only framed in space that beauty blooms. Only in space are events and objects and people unique and significant- and therefore beautiful.” So, how to display meaningful objects in your home in a streamlined way while maintaining space so they feel significant and beautiful? Group them. Waaay back when I was a youngster working in retail, a supervisor once told me that grouping a whole lot of one product all together on an endaisle display was eye-catching and sold more. That stuck with me. And it applies at home as well.

The whole point of collections and mementos is to have them catch your eye so you can appreciate them. They should feel special and significant. They’re the things you want to stand out in your home above all the laundry and dirty dishes and socks on the floor (am I the only one who takes socks off and leaves them everywhere around the house?). So I have two main “rules” when decorating so that the meaningful stuff like photos, collections, art and memorabilia stand out: Start with a neutral backdrop, group your stuff.

Try to bring all of one kind of collection or items - for example, vases, books, dishes, pitchers, antiques - all together and display them on one shelving unit. See how in the photos below like things are with like? They all have either the same shape or same colour family. Even practical dish sets don’t look cluttery stacked on open shelving because they’re all in one colour. The eye is drawn to something large - and when you display a bunch of similar little things together to make one large display, it will show better. The same tip goes for displaying artwork, family photos or collectibles on the wall. Group them together to make a display that’s way more impactful and also way less cluttery than having them spread out all over your home. Designer tip - this also allows you to save some white space in your home.
