PARAMEDIC SCIENCE A paramedic is the highest trained emergency health care professional who provides emergency care to a patient as he or she is being taken to the hospital. Paramedics can give more advanced care than emergency medical technician (EMT) professionals because they have more extensive training in performing more difficult pre-hospital medical procedures. The individual takes the practical examination administered by the state certifying agency or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination for certification. Students learn advanced skills in body function and receive extensive related coursework and clinical and field experience.
