THE STORYBOARD

UNDERSTANDING THE COLLECTION Millennia III represents a future filled with evolutionary possibilities. In our story, one’s future is predicated on one’s experience and one’s outlook to those events. The reality is that each of life’s experiences (whether good or bad) has the power to drive positive personal growth or impede, potentially decay development. Incidentally, the way in which one chooses to respond to those events, will possibly shape one’s future. There are 5 sections in the band. Each section represents different planets/star with each planet/star being analogous to a different life experience / challenge. It is through walking through each of these personal experiences, sometimes stepping outside of one’s comfort zone that one builds his/her future. Although the journey may be daunting, if one chooses to look at each experience as growing lessons, milestone, one has just taken the first step to crafting a brighter future.

THE 2015 COLECTION

LEAVING HOME

THE ADAPTATION It’s M3 (Millennia III) and as corny as it sounds, “The view from up here, in Space, is really out of this world.” Lights fill the entire skyline, reflecting faint impressions into my private glass chamber. Stars glow like a crystal chandelier inside of an opulent opera house, enveloping the soft, multi-hued blue sky. Leaving behind the past, one’s comfort zone is so difficult. But if I had to be blatantly honest, consciously stepping out into the unfamiliar, a new world is incredibly petrifying. A caldron of emotions creeps into my heart and my throat tightens. Oddly enough, I am anxious as I look towards the Future. I am SkyWalker 02162015 – Next Stop – The Unknown …

THE STORYBOARD

THE 2015 COLECTION

PROLOGUE The Future is Full of Possibilities

The past is what it is – good and bad… The good parts are just that, ‘Good’ – Good, because it acts as a reminder of the good times. Good, because it provides the hope that you will give and receive another smile from a stranger, another hug from a loved one. Good, because it gives the promise that another ‘good’ is coming in the near or far future. As for the bad, they are also ‘Good’ – Good, because you can trust that the memory can’t get any worse or any more tragic. Good, because you will never have to do a repeat. Good, because a lesson was learnt.

The future on the other hand, holds evolutionary possibilities. Possibilities to correct a wrong. Possibilities to do right. Possibilities to become better – Yes, bigger and so much better than you or anyone ever thought that you could be. So while the past marks history, it is important not to let it rule you. Do not allow fear of the future to bind you. Adapt. Be open to the possibilities. Welcome the changes that awaits you -Welcome to the Future -- Welcome to Millennia III

The past is what it is – It is safe. It is just as the word suggests passé. Historic. Written and unchanging.

ACCESSORIES

Idiosyncratic is her temperament!

M Y

A woman wants her wardrobe to capture her every single mood. She wants to express her softer yet bold side all in one look. She desires to make a uniquely individualistic statement. Her distinctive panache could be expressed by simply adding a “statement piece”.

The size of your neckpiece also matters! When it comes down to costume jewelry, it seems only the concept of “the bigger the better” will do.

When an accessory is described as a statement piece, it means that it has moved away from being a mere add-on to an item that makes you take notice. Arguably anything can be your statement piece – from your handbag to your shoes. It seems that even your hair can be a central point of focus these days. However, without a doubt one of the more interesting trends that has developed is the addition of costume jewelry. Moreso, it is using costume jewelry as statement pieces. Do you remember when wearing the faux version was a no-no? Today costume necklaces and collars seems to be the epitome of glamor and chic in the fashion world.

S T A T E M E N T

P I E C E

Even traditional items such as pearl necklaces have taken on a modern twist! They have gotten larger and more clunky to make them more attractive to a younger generation. It seems that costume pieces are the order of the day and the super-size costume neckpiece is a closet essential. Part of the appeal to large pieces is that it can quickly make a timeless classic wardrobe-piece appear more modern. It almost seems like a “I Dream of Genie” trick. With the twitch of a nose, you could add a large necklace to your dress and suddenly change your look from classic to modern–chic! This Carnival season K2K has introduced our own line of accessories. We hope that you enjoy them after carnival too!

CHER-MÈRE

In the Beginning: Cheryl Bowles, Biochemist, Founder and Managing Director, gave up her top executive job at Nestlé, the world’s largest food company. She was the company’s first woman Executive, Chief Chemist, Head of Quality Control, and Head of Research and Development. In addition, Ms. Bowles, co-founded and presided over Nestlé’s Credit Union, and served as Head of Safety and Development , Nestlé, Trinidad and Tobago. Cheryl Bowles gave up a fantastic salary and opportunities to travel all over the world to pursue the development of the brand that would become Cher-Mère. The name Cher-Mère, meaning “Dear Mother” in French was derived from the unity of the first part of Cheryl’s name and part of Merle, her mother’s (deceased) name. The Journey: Cheryl Bowles trusted her instincts, having no previous experience working with herbs, aromatherapy or cosmetics, and decided to chart a new course through an unknown terrain. Determined to make it on her own, she declined Nestlé’s offers to retain her. With vivid memories of her grandmother using the peeled skin of the cucumber on her face for improved complexion; and fresh aloe and the white of an egg to make a facial mask, Ms. Bowles was armed with firsthand knowledge of the Caribbean’s possession of some of nature’s best herbs and botanica for the appearance of youthful, healthy and vivacious looking skin. It is from this arsenal of knowledge and technical expertise that Cher-Mère’s natural product blends have been formed. Cheryl Bowles’s mother Merle Bowles, deceased, was an inspiration to her and suggested the creation of a hair food for Caribbean people. Merle Bowles, an esthetician and hair dresser, used the herbal hair food on her clients. It was well received, and the Hair Food was the first of 30 products currently on the market. Subsequently, the name Cher-Mère was born. “Cher-Mère” is a registered trademark in parts of the Caribbean, USA, UK, and Canada.

The Herbarium Ltd. (THL), the parent company of Cher-Mère, commenced business in one store in the basement of Roundabout Plaza, Barataria, selling its own locally formulated teas and herbs. One of the company’s first employees was Veronica Lewis, who journeyed with Cheryl Bowles as a sales assistant at Roundabout Plaza. Ms. Lewis, now the longest serving employee, now serves as Production Supervisor at The Herbarium Ltd. The Herbarium Ltd., with its extensive product line of 30 products, operates four day spas and a kiosk in Trinidad and one day spa in Barbados. The Cher-Mère Brand is also distributed in Guadeloupe, New York and London. The future: Aba Bowles-Mortley, Cheryl’s daughter, has always been an active part of the company and now continues on the legacy in the position of Assistant General Manager/International Marketing. As a small child, no older than 5 years old, Aba would often accompany her mother to trade shows, explaining to potential clients the benefits of local herbs used in the teas that were sold. As Aba grew older, she has covered every facet of the company from production to distribution, even working as an esthetician in the Day Spas, and has been given the name “the little boss” from inception. Now with a PhD in Materials and Chemical Engineering, Dr. Mortley continues to forge ahead and build on the brand that is Cher-Mère. SHORT STORIES

SHOOTING STARS

THE COMFORT ZONE It is during the times when I am far outside my element that I learn the most about myself. It is at that juncture that I see who I really am and what I want to be. I am like a shooting star. You see, a shooting star has to survive much before we can relish in its glorious light. The tale of the shooting star starts off with a comet - an icy small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun, heats up and displays a visible coma, and sometimes also a tail. Meteoroids which are solid pieces of debris then develop from the comets. However, most meteoroids that enter the Earth’s atmosphere are so small that they vaporize completely and never reach the planet’s surface. But assuming that they survive the friction, the pressure, and the chemical interactions with the atmospheric gases, they heat up and radiate that energy, forming a fireball, also known as a shooting star. Interestingly, I think that we are the same way. Just like a meteorite, once we leave outer space (the familiar) and enter Earth’s atmosphere (the unknown) we are exposed to a lot negative externalities. However, it is only when we defy the odds, overcome challenges, and find absolution, that we can really uncover who we are and discover what we can be. We are all like shooting stars. The only difference is that each time we step out of our our comfort zone, our radiance becomes bigger and brighter.

SHORT STORIES

KISSED BY

THE SUN Downtown Manhattan, Battery Park Sitting on the empty terrace of her Manhattan apartment, Elizabeth squinted and focused her gaze downwards, to the cold, sluggish expanse of water. Little flashes of red, orange and yellow skimmed over it’s frigid surface. Meanwhile, across the river, that great, big ochre orb crested over that large, familiar, distant clock which landmarked Newport, New Jersey. Blinking into the gathering light, she closed her eyes and sucked in the crisp Manhattan air. She finally made it out of that hellhole, she thought. And while she could admit that each person’s version of hell was different… Whether that demon concealed itself as that God-awful boss that one encounters everyday; or manifested itself as the low paying job which makes it difficult to make ends meet… She was so God-damned relieved to be out of her hell. She was free. Cancer-free. The tears flooded her eyes and broke free just then. They tangled in her lashes and seeped down her cheeks. Opening her eyes, she experienced a sudden jolt of panic, when she could no longer see the image of that big river in her periphery.

Blink, Liz. God damn-it, just blink! Liz muttered to herself. And just like that the images were back in focus. Yup, they were all back. The river. The clock. The sun. All the images were back, as clear as day. And as sure as crap, that instant lucidity, the obvious clarity that problems don’t, can’t, won’t, come into focus or be resolved with a blink of an eye, made her cry even more. With a shiver, she admonished the images from her past and sagged. Letting her head fall back, she allowed the sun to caress her face. The warmth on her skin made her think of good times. It made her believe that another ‘good’ would come in the future. It made her think of God. Thinking back to all of the prayers that she muttered during the last couple months, she could not believe that each ask had been answered. God knew, it was fear and bleak desperation, which made her utter the benediction. It surely was not belief. That conviction had been crucified the first time she had been diagnosed with cancer. And after all the compounded crap, she had stopped expecting anyone to be listening. Actually, she stopped expecting anyone to answer. But He did. So while the heat from the recent events may have scorched her, Liz was relieved that she had not allowed it to reduced her to ash. It was almost like she had touched the sun, felt its heat, but had not been incinerated. Yes, she may be damaged, but she was not broken. Damage could be repaired after all. Broken pieces on the other hand, didn't always fit perfectly back together.

KISSED BY THE SUN

SHORT STORIES

Thus, while the damage to her soul would take time to repair, she took relief in the notion that her inner scabs would eventually heal. Instantaneously, she also took comfort in the fact that her body and mind remained functional. Workable. In-tack. Then again, most of the time it’s not your body that lets you down, it’s your mind. In actuality, it’s all the compounded convoluted cruel circumstance which makes the mind crumble. Plain and simple, it’s good-old-bad-experiences bad times, the bad-on-the-bad-on-the-bad, which makes the mind weak. Unrepairable. Broken. Contrary to popular belief, bad times aren’t all bad though. In hindsight, you could sift the bad through the sieve and discover fine elements of ‘Good’ – It’s good, because you can trust that the memory can’t get any worse or any more tragic; It’s good, because you will never have to do a repeat; It’s good, because a lesson was learnt (no matter how hard the course or difficult the journey) After all, no one ever said that finding the good in the bad was easy. To be brutally honest, no one ever said that surviving the bad times would be easy either. Survival after all, is the game of champions. And champions, whether born or bred, are not weak of heart. Instead, they possess or develop the strongest fighting spirit to win.

Thus sometimes, you have to dig deep to find the warrior, the champion. Sometimes, you have to want it - the end game, the dream, the win - badly enough to ride out the pain. Sometimes you just have to want it badly enough to break free… Yup, escape the demon and just break free from the hell. Life with all its mundane majesty is a mental game filled with glorious trauma. It’s mundane because of all the routine; majestic because of the rising and setting sun; traumatic because of the pressure it puts on your will power; but glorious because each day you live means each day you’ve won the fight. As Elizabeth sat watching the sun rise over the Hudson River, there were two things that she knew for sure. And ironically, the first ‘sure thing’ was staring her directly in her face. •  One. Just as the sun must rise and fall each day, rough patches don’t last forever. It too would rise, come into focus, and would ultimately pass, giving way to a new future. •  And two. There is a hand that guides us, watches over us. And even though it is not always one that seems fair, it’s there. He’s there. Surrendering to the sun’s warm heat, Elizabeth realized that she had just been kissed by the sun.

FINDING

VENUS What on Earth was that smell? It wasn’t a bad aroma, but it surely didn’t belong in her bed though. Elizabeth’s sleep muddled mind was able to tell her two things: •  One. The smell was a person’s scent. And Holy Moly, it was the most refreshing scent. A mix of morning rain and the woodsy outdoors. •  And Two. The enthralling scent belonged to a man. Not just any man, but her man? Her husband, Ian? But he was travelling? Wasn’t he? With a start Elizabeth sat up and squealed. All at once, she got instantly enveloped, wrappedup and swept away in the arms of the man who had been holding her for 3 years. Her Ian. “I couldn’t leave you alone on our anniversary? Could I, Liz? Ian said with his husky baritone voice. Surrendering to his warm embrace, she curled into him and sighed. ……………… Three years earlier PJ Clarke Restaurant, Battery Park, New York As Elizabeth sat on the crowed deck of the restaurant, she starred at the cool water swishing back and forth on the sides of the boats. This was one of her favorite spots in NYC. The Waterfront. 11am. Empty. Serene with nothing more than the sounds of the swish-swish-swish of the water against the boats. Tonight on the other hand, the restaurant was busy. Too busy. Too loud. There was a great cacophony rising up from all the busy activity

in the restaurant. Friends, lovers, people, talked, laughed, debated. Sitting by herself, Liz felt completely awkward. A little silly even. Looking around at all the pretty-normal, she wondered, how on Earth had she agreed to meet this man for dinner? She inwardly groaned. She was ‘soo’ out of practice with the whole dating, getting to know you, sort-of-thing. God knew, she had no intentions of getting a crash course in that topic. Yup, she didn’t need the workshop on how to mend a broken heart, or how to fix a lover’s quarrel, or how to compromise. She and Mary J. Blige would see eye-to-eye on one topic - Her life needed, No More Drama. Anyway, there was was no need to jump the gun. Elizabeth had made it crystal clear to Donna that this was a friends ONLY kind of meet-and-greet. A Hi! How are ya? Split the check. And see you later or more like NEVER, kind-of-deal. So there was no need to hit the panic button or get her panties in a wad. THIS. WAS. NOT. A. DATE. Out of the corner of her eye, Liz caught a buzz of movement at the entrance. A man just walked into the restaurant. An extremely gorgeous man. His hair was salt-and-peppered. And boy! Oh boy! Didn’t she like a sprinkle of salt and a dash of pepper in her dishes! She thought with a giggle. But, that salt and pepper shake seemed to be a bit too perfect even from this distance, Liz considered with a smirk. Nonetheless, he was a perfectly delectable treat.

His shoulders were broad and tapered to lean hips. He wore a black V-neck, with a low hung blue jeans. Rocking a pair of dark croc loafers, he finished off at about 6’3 or so. In the “GQ get-up” the son-of-a-gun was drop dead striking. If his body didn’t make women swoon, then his angular jawline, his tanned skin and deep-set eyes gave him movie-star perfection. Liz was sure that even the most certified heterosexual in restaurant had to admit that this guy was attractive. As the man strolled through the restaurant, Liz wondered who he was eating with? Time to play pin the tail on the Barbie, she thought with a whole load of sarcasm. Two tables down, a dark-haired beauty sat alone. She was pouting. On second thought, maybe that wasn’t a pout, but just the way her surgically enhanced lips puffed out. Her too plunging neckline was tight. Too tight. And the too small, too low top, showed off a dazzling display of perfect assets. Implants, maybe? Liz thought. And what do you know, on sighting Mr. Salt-and-Pepper, the Barbie instantly began glowing with expectation. Bingo! Ken and Botox Barbie, Liz snorted. And like a proud peacock Botox Barbie leaned forward and stuck out her too large chest. Apparently, she decided then and there, that having all that plastic enhancement wasn’t enough. Instead, the combination of raunchy and easy was more appealing. And maybe it might have been to some, but, Mr. Salt-and-Pepper by-passed her without a glance. Instead, he seemed to be making his way to her table. Oh God! He was making his way to HER table, Liz thought.

He wore no smile, a clenched jaw, a stiff Posture. Instantly Elizabeth could not help but wish that she was Barbie. It was obvious that by the way he clenched his jaw, that he was not impressed. Jesus! He was probably thinking about the best excuse to leave. How could Donna have humiliated her like this? Inwardly groaning, Liz instantly dropped her gaze to her glass of water. …………..

Ian’s heart instantly started to pound when he realized who Ms. Summers’ was. He wanted to smile but was terrified that his grin would give away his instant attraction. His brown eyes focused on her like she was his only source of light. He felt like had been living in the dark for centuries, Millennia even, and he was drawn to her radiance. She was lovely. Slim but not stick skinny. Her dark hair was pulled back in a tight chignon, keeping her delicate features on display. Her black sport’s jacket, plain black V-neck and black slim jeans, were sleek. She was gloriously. She was his kind of beautiful. But why did she frown at him as he moved towards the table? God! Why did he allow his younger brother to dress him? His naturally greying hair was OBVIOUSLY at a discord to this damn get-up! … Jesus! The woman didn’t look pleased to see him. She looked like she was thinking of some excuse to leave. And for some inexplicable reason, the idea of her leaving, had his heart beating even faster. Walking up to the table, Ian said, “ Hi Elizabeth Summer, I am Ian McAlister.” Taking a deep breathe, Liz raised her head. Gazing into his brown eyes, she did the most ballsy thing - She smiled at him. ………….. A dinner and 3 years later, Liz was still smiling.

THE MOON

AND BACK

Date: November 15th, 2001 Time: 5:05am Place: Home Base

Moon light, Moon beam fading thru the daylight I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish, I wish thru the fading moonlight Ian McAlister gazed at his stubble angular face in the small hand mirror in the bathroom. “Another day in paradise”, he sighed. “Nine months, ten days and counting and soon I will be home,” he continued to mutter to himself.

This time of the morning always made him feel connected, yet achingly disconnected to Liz. He had left the house in wee hours of the morning. He remembered the minuscule air particles dancing against Liz’s raven hair; the translucent sunbeam attempting to caress her face as if empathizing with the moment - offering solace to the foreboding reality - that she would be left alone. “Love you,” she whimpered as her hands slowly extended in the morning sky. “Always, my little brown eyes. Always.” Liz’s two last words played over and over in his head as it did every morning. Ian closed his eyes, feeling the dampness slowly gathering there. He gently released the mirror, grasped the edge of the small, discolored ceramic sink and bowed his head. “IAN!...” a voice jolted him back to reality “…WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!” the voice grew more urgent, desperate.

He was already armored in his uniform – desert storm cargo pants with its matching jacket; military boots, laced and double knotted around his carves; his gun holster with the loaded firearm already hung low on his hip; the only weaponry that was MIA (missing in action) was his submachine gun, which lay on the dust-filled ground of his barracks. “Jesus,” he heaved… Running to his bedpost, he clasped the gun and whirled it around his shoulder and scampered outside. The sky was a blazed in bright orange, yellows and shades of red, as if Satan had opened a direct portal to hell and his dominions. Rock, dust and copious grey smoke choked the morning sky, threatening to stifle his breathing. Overhead, he could hear the drone of a propeller and the hum of a plane motor. The air swirled around him as a beam wavered and zigzagged on the Iranian soil. “GET DOWN! GET OWN! GET THE HELL DOWN!” screamed Commander Jacks with his gun frantically gesticulating in the air. Again the white beam returned, crisscrossing, dancing in his wake, tracking him. “THE BEAM, THE RED BEAM, THE RED BEAM!” bellowed Jacks. Ian turned his head, but a fraction of a second too late – Time went still. All Ian felt was his body tightening at the gun’s impact. He blinked his eyes, stunned, frightened (but just for a moment). “Liz? Liz?...” he whispered, “…Nine months, ten days and counting and soon I will be home.” Silhouetted in the glaze of the breaking dawn, Ian closed his eyes and surrendered to the 98 darkness.

SHORT STORIES

I”LL FOLLOW YOU TO

THE MOON TOO Date: November 23rd, 2001 Time: 6:05pm Place: New York

Starlight, Star bright, The first star, I see tonight I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish, I wish tonight… Elizabeth McAllister gazed at the grey, luminous globe in the sky from her bedroom window. Since Ian’s left seven months ago, she lived each day for this very moment. This was the time of the evening when the sky seemed to caress the iridescent white light of the moon ever so softly, cocooning it, protecting it from all other element in the sky. She wanted to think that there was a greater power keeping him safe or at least so she hoped. “Nine months, two days and counting and soon he will be home”, she mouthed silently as if invoking God to hear her silent prayer. Liz walked into the kitchen to finish preparing her dinner for one. It was Thursday night - that meant lasagna with a Caesar salad and a few slices of garlic bread – Ian’s favorite. She inwardly chuckled to herself as warm memories embraced her thoughts. “Mrs. McAllister” a voice interrupted her nostalgia. “Mrs. McAllister…” the baritone masculine voice continued as she became acutely aware of the knocking at her front door.

As she walked towards the entrance of the house, a feeling of dread precipitated in the depths of her core. Liz warily looked through the peephole and saw Commander Tai and Sargent Blue at the doorstep. She opened the door, noticing that her hands were trembling and sweaty. “Gentlemen…” she enquired, “…What do I owe the pleasure?” Commander Tai raised his head as his jaw clenched and his fist tightened. “Mrs. McAllister” his voice dropped, “Liz…” he muttered, “…You need to come with us.” Liz’s eyes searched Tai’s resigned expression in the darkness. “Give me two minutes” she answered, her voice merely a whisper. She retreated inside and placed her shaking hands against the door. Clutching her aching chest she let the warm tears stain the white tilted floor of her living room. BEEP…BEEP… The electrocardiographic heart monitor droned out against the deathly silence in the hospital room. The pale blue walls were now dimly lit by the halogen ceiling lights. Liz had been here for the past few hours and the lights in the room seemed to be waning as if trying to caution her, give premonition to a dread reality. She watched the flecks of the moon dance against her husband’s chiseled profile as his dark eyelashes gently caressed his swollen checks. “You can’t leave me… you just can’t…you promised…” she wept as she delicately bore her head into Ian’s lifeless forearm. “God!” she implored, “not yet! God Dammit! not yet!… Are you hearing me Ian McAllister?” She entwined their fingers as they had done on their wedding day. “Love you”, her voice carried in the darkness and then ricocheted back to her ears. “Love you” she cried out desperately in her mind, knowing that only God could hear. “Always…” a husky voice replied. Her brown eyes met his, “…I am home.”
