New code of practice for home renovations A new national code of practice on energy efficiency home renovations has been officially launched in Ireland. S.R. 54 Code of Practice is a free technical guide for all contractors involved in home renovations. The standard is now a requirement when tendering for state retrofit schemes, such as local authority upgrades, or SEAI’s Better Energy Homes With over 800 million euro worth of renovations carried out in over 35,000 homes in Ireland since 2013, NSAI (National Standard Authority of Ireland) wants to ensure all contractors are not only aware of this document, but use it, in order to ensure best practice . The new code of practice was launched at the Energy Show 2016, where the Product of the Show accolade went to Solar Electric Ireland for its product sonnenBatterie - a high tech energy storage solution which also won Best Innovative Product. Other category winners included MCC Energy, winner of Best Renewable Product for its Hybrid Power Charging Station; Metac, winner of Best Service Provider for its energy training courses; Origen Energy winner of Best Energy Efficient Product for its Robur gas absorption heat pump; and Best Product of the Future went to Rexel Energy Solutions for its battery energy storage system. New Construction Contracts Act comes into force The new Construction Contracts Act is set to regularise cash-flow for construction companies and reduce costs by providing for rapid resolution of disputes. CIF President, Michael Stone, explained, “This Act will benefit the entire supply chain by bringing more certainty to contracts and dispute resolution in the industry. The sector is in recovery mode and this Act will help companies plan, budget and invest more accurately in meeting Ireland’s increasing economic demands.
