UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HOUSING ASSIGNMENTS 09 02

Tisch School of the Arts good morning judges i'm here to present mafia private recently someone said that students are not preparing for life they're living their lives now and i believe that that's true the great thing about the life school senior project is that it's more than the status quo research paper that students do their senior year it's really a life project tell me a little bit about the senior project it was something that I could use to step out of my comfort zone a little bit and it was an excuse for me to step out of my comfort zone because I've got the senior project i would have never achieved the things that i did well photo friday i thought was gonna be hard i'll take a long time and alistair part i don't i wanted to be intuitive her idea as i start doing it as i start doing paperwork since the beginning you doing i saw was getting better cover your closer and closer to the moment uh I mean it was something that can make me grow something that can make me better at what I do and something that I think could be a little bit fun what was the best part of this project the emailing someone that was famous and was from the norc and actually wrote back to me what did you learn about yourself they're doing this project I learned first how to get my career started which is very important what did you learn about yourself they're doing this project I had already looked into research about the project but I did learn more so about the specialties and work so in death about what what I needed to do in order to become a dentist how did you grow from this product what did you learn I definitely learned time management definitely how is this project different from other projects that you've done in the past in school this is really unique most people don't do this what was the best part of this project and then why finally made it to in and did the practice I felt good about myself I felt really good how is this project different from other projects that you've done in the past in school well this one is more about me if it's bit of other things sy how did you change and grow and doing this project they helped me get some work done when I how to airlie get it in our le you guys my name is KJ and I did my project over how to improve dentist in the requirements that it takes to become one basically all especially her I didn't get into digital picture didn't ok so the educational requirements while you're in college we need to maintain an event obtained a bachelor's degree perfectly in a major assignments of biology chemistry or a pre-dinner major and some people do have a pre hype of little hygiene major if the school offers it and after you graduate you attain your bachelors you can take the dental assessment test and how that process works is you had a sound like having with your SATs so you had to sign up with xat program and their program is starting up with a American Dental Association so you have to fill out an application there and once they send me back with a request for google thing you can go ahead and fingertips so it's forward and fifteen dollars to take the test in the last about five to six hours we conceive it it breaks in between and yes I was very studious and now that you have a plan for if you fail after you fail and you get rejected you can take the test again so they're really open to be taking it you have to pay for fifteen dollars again but they're Realty team so once you're in dental school during that process it's about four years from beginning to end and finally become a dentist and there once as you do get your masters as well as your doctrines but none of those extra like Roman masters lasts for an extra two and dr. summation 406 so in that whole process you get off that so you graduate you obtain a BBS which doctor until surgery and if the doctor little men and after you knew that if you graduate from middle school your pocket of your licensure and your licensure is where give you opportunity to practice the profession legally we're going to fields teeth and if you don't prefer to go ahead and finish it out this week um and you know what it is you can continue on for a specialty so I'm going to talk more so about this messages in a dynast is it's a person that specializes specializes with the pulp of the team and then over the present during your work announced and now cannot see that it was ugly cool so this is this is where your noms roots of liking your teeth and normally that specialized so this is the specialized with the room so this is bacteria that build them so their profession is to go in there get all that out and if the whole nasty process basically working out and it's acquires about two additional years of schooling so the four years of dental school with an extra two years to become an endodontist now we have worth of diamonds everyone pretty much knows that is there basically here's from straight arrow teams on the line normally work with children or adults you have braces and then here's the period optics and these specialists work with gums now in ended eyes work with roots but they're more so guns like here you see there's irritation because the tooth is decayed and it's affected it affects the gums and if you've ever met anybody that has really red gums and that's done with the disease on since you called periodontal disease and they specialize in making sure that you know they expand so basically they have to get in there once they miss this you most likely getting to take that out take that out and then fill it up with I believe it's the same material use a stop cavities from

young children so yeah the next one is posted on it they're involved with cheap replacement own back and care they basically do anything with anyone that has missing teeth they lost in a weird way they normally perform the surgery where they creating with this is actually a screw and they molded a new team to around then so anyway you're missing they make me do it for you you're missing a whole world royalty baby you homo team okay and they tend to have a video to work with groups of dentist because you know character orthodontist who work with lime and the other evidence that sees a problem and they come in to help fix it so it no Latino than that work together with your pediatric dentistry it speaks for itself they work with children of the only difference between them and others just Esther tease it is that they during their school time they work with children during the school like regular days they do they can work with adults but they have to specialize in children's mouths especially affected chosen or square away they have to understand it they have to work them out they're smaller so yeah and different practices I'm going to talk about the difference between private practice as well as corporation with private practice you can work for yourselves you can hire people issue or familiar with you know done or brace it to the same thing but it's more of a personal relationship and private practices and best thing I like about is you can create your own hours so that's my favorite part and corporations is normally you're already built the institution is already build and you're already having something to work with there's no really large enough employee so it's kind of like it's bigger you don't know any people like it's just it's just your own at work every day and they also have a company base insurance and private companies and only they don't have the ability to give their employees insurance so they have to purchase it themselves now I want to talk about my mentor dr. natalie dickerson and for my 10 hours of participation i shattered her to my family dinners and she owned progress it looks just like a house I never bought it was in office but this went new age private practices offices look like now and in the dental rooms are really comfortable they have tvs and basically my time here is and how their schooling was what they enjoyed about it they gave me like feedback on you know what i should do but personally I wanted to be a dental hygienist and it would like to just go for it all the way and it likes a lot of school but they're like you know you should just do it they kind of gave me ideas on what to major in and which route to take so now I played a major in biology and minor in chemistry and then on my third year of college I plan on the line trip to take the general assessment fish I'm ready so how are you guys doing today all right um my name is Brett worry I'm singing here at life school and my project is over special effects makeup for my project I thought it would go a little bit outside of the box a little bit and of do a mask comments like this but to tend a little bit about my background I worked at a haunted house reindeer manor it's in right up I also work for a cutting edge and taemin's taemin's is in midlothian and I was a makeup artist there i would do to start all the makeup for the for the haunted house and all the masks and stuff like that so yeah so I made it I made a predator mask and this is what he looks like right here ok so my background I started working on my house when I was 13 years old so about five years ago I soon found my talent because it was it was unique and alone not a lot of people can do it you know me that's very tricky and time-consuming so I thought I would help the makeup artist that worked there with all this stuff that he would do so eventually I got into it and I thought it was all I thought was really fun some of the stuffs that I have that I had made I made zombie makeup I've done Goebbels vampires dead people and movie monsters so that's just a short little brief thing that I've done a noodle short all right time and cost so the time that I've spent um they said that we were only supposed to have about 10 hours to work on it actually this project I really wanted to finish it I wanted to see you guys reacted when I chilly so I spent almost five months on this project every day you know going there working on a piece by piece and one of the time I would have a trial and error you know what I mean I would go I would make a clay mold and it would crack and then I would have to I had to fill it and then restart again so it took a lot of time it was very very difficult for me because one that was something that was living outside my comfort zone which is good again it was also something I had to learn from um my mentor was uh actually had two mentors I had Josh currently he was my makeup artist at reindeer manor and then I also had miss Croft she was the theatre teacher here and she really helped me put this thing together didn't we help me gather supplies and gather paint and she actually helped me paint it of so for this project it took me a little over a hundred hours to make including the clay sculpture and the molds and the painting and stuff like that of the costs the costs are very high a lot of people just they just went out and what he said they just went out and just volunteered and help the community out this one actually took a lot of money i spent about two hundred dollars on materials of about eight dollars on latex 130 on paying to 200 on the clay okay so here's one of the beginning of my sculpture pics so this is when i first started i had a Styrofoam head and it's just the one you buy from hobby lobby and i kind of circled it with a blue marker with a blue marker the high spots and low spots and then i started applying the clay i started looking like this and why they said it started to crack and right here is this is kind of this is before i get done painting so this is what it looked like before I painted it and it was cracking like right down the head and these things are falling off but after a long time I just figured

out I just need to move into our play it applies not working so i also thought i would do something a little extra and make the hell with that he wears over to so i made the helmet Wow so i made this helmet out of cardboard and duct tape just something i could find around the house it's actually got a pair of glasses on it so you can look through it's pretty cool this is this isn't even the main attraction this is a side piece the real the real project and right here so you own the table nothing down there Wow so the it was the the clay sculpture and then I had to put a couple layers of latex on top of it and then I just said that did the paint brush paint on it just a regular acrylic acrylic-based and then I went to the beauty store and got some weave so I thought that was looking this is one death no I actually can't I could take it off and I really good I thought that if I took it off and wore it in my damage in you right and so I want to preserve it and comment keen is nice so my end result of what I've learned from this project is to be diligent and to not procrastinate all my teachers that I've had this year they'll know that you know everybody procrastinates especially me i procrastinate a little bit here in their email I get lazy but with this one with this project I figured out that i couldn't procrastinate I had to play things out piece by piece and sometimes I would have to go back and redo something and then move on to the next the next place you know me and this is very fun i love doing this project i think it was i think it was something I chose it because I wanted to do something that other people wouldn't do something that part of that brought attention to me and what I can do you know to be my skills and so this is this would be a career I'd love to do for the rest of my life I enjoy it so much so alright my conclusion I thank everyone for coming today supporting me I thank my family for the money that they put into this project and my dad for helping me out a lot and especially miss Kraus she did a lot of work to help me out with this I'd also like to thank you judges for coming and seeing my project to see me present and grow especially for all the class of 2015 we really had grown as a family and I really appreciate you guys coming at night I also like to thank miss Johnson to give me contributing us the project because at first I thought it was a waste of time everybody did but me I thought it was a I saw it as an opportunity and I mean so it was a great learning experience and experience I would encourage for years to come thank you any words of wisdom for students that do this in the future it may give enough time to work on that because if you don't you won't get it done think very hard about your future because it comes fast good finish you were eagerly so you have a lot of freedom to correct any mistakes words of wisdom plan ahead do your work because it's important to do it it may not be fun eighty percent of the time what do it because in the end I think the whole purpose of this was to learn something so I think mostly everybody should unless they didn't have a good topic that was their fault yeah anything else you wish you Yeshiva College, Washington Heights, Manhattan.
