We exist to inspire, connect, impact and strengthen the Broomfield community through the power of philanthropy.

January
Broomfield Community Foundation ANNUAL REPORT
2020–September 2021

Dear Friends,

Our mission at the Broomfield Community Foundation is to be the leading partner, resource, and voice for philanthropy in Broomfield. Working together with other nonprofits, businesses, residents, countless volunteers, and government agencies, we create a better Broomfield. I’m pleased to share some exciting news about our partnerships and collaborations from the last 18 months.

The continuing economic and social challenges to local, national, and global communities from the COVID pandemic are devastating. We at BCF are proud of the many ways the Broomfield community has responded to meet these challenges. Through volunteerism, and engagement with local partners, we have together provided immediate assistance through strategic grants serving Broomfield residents.

Through collaboration with the Broomfield Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) group, and our BCF Disaster Relief Fund, we quickly mobilized to distribute community donations to our nonprofit partners through 5 streamlined cycles. Our advance preparation and coordinated community efforts provided vital funding for local nonprofits who were deeply impacted by the pandemic, to the tune of $158,128 in grants. This emergency funding paid for desperately needed equipment and services, such as healthcare equipment and PPE, bulk food, emergency shelter, and mental health services; in addition to operations support for personnel and staff.

In addition to disaster relief efforts, we distributed $260,278 though our annual grant cycle and scholarship funding. Other significant milestones include increasing our BCF Legacy Fund capital endowment to $1.77 million, with overall total assets increasing to $4.9 million. Also, our recently rebooted Youth Advisory Committee is off to a great start, raising more than $1,700 in funding for grants to 4 organizations, with many more activities and service projects slated for 2022! We continue to work closely with local business partners and residents, building a portfolio of donor advised funds, field of interest funds, and sponsorship opportunities.

In addition to financial support, BCF is a recognized leader of no-cost education and resource development for local non-profits. We continue to organize and host our trademark Knowledge Series presentations in partnership with other local organizations. Presentations offer tools and guidance on numerous topics, such as navigating the changing fundraising landscape, COVID resources, and volunteerism.

No annual letter could be complete without acknowledging our talented and committed staff and volunteers, for their tireless work advancing the mission of the BCF. In this last year of particular challenges, our executive staff of Marianna Williamson, Dion West, and Sarah McCurdy truly rose to the occasion. And we are also excited to welcome several new staff members in 2021, including Robb Schroer and Tiffany Stockard. For all of their efforts, and to all of our Broomfield volunteers and supporters, I offer my most sincere gratitude, and look forward to greater opportunities for service to the entire Broomfield community.

Yours in Philanthropy,

We believe in the combined power of community, generosity, and philanthropy to create a greater Broomfield for us all.

We amplify the power of many to create greater impact for all! A donation to the Broomfield Community Foundation serves the entire community.

We have distributed more than $3.5 million to the Broomfield community, served 1,500+ donors, and have funded 100+ nonprofits that benefit Broomfield residents.

We have been a vital resource, critical connector, knowledge source, trusted steward, advocate and catalyst for community impact in Broomfield since 1993.

We are a major source of scholarships for Broomfield students. We have awarded more than 80 scholarships for over $150,000.

We envision a strong, vibrant Broomfield where all parts of our community and every resident thrives.

A community foundation’s purpose is two-fold: to grow a community endowment that will continually benefit its defined area through grant-making and other charitable activities and to bring together the resources of individuals, families, and businesses to support effective nonprofits in their communities.

Broomfield Volunteer HQ is generously sponsored by our friends at Elevations Credit Union, and together, we strive to connect people and their passions to empower and impact the nonprofit community. Visit www.broomfieldvolunteerhq.org to learn about current opportunities.

We host an annual Volunteer Match in partnership with the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce. We invite all area charitable organizations to come and share more about who they are, what they do, and what volunteer needs they have. A community foundation is the center of charitable giving in a community and facilitates connections between the individuals, families, and businesses who want to give and the organizations that need their support.

The Broomfield Community Foundation hosts a series of learning sessions throughout the year. These sessions are designed to help our local nonprofit organizations to build internal capacity and to provide professional development opportunities for our donors, volunteers, and other local partners. Recent sessions included: Leveraging LinkedIn Navigating COVID Resources, De-escalation techniques when working with those in crisis, and Anti-Racism.

Broomfield VOAD: Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, comprised of local nonprofits, faith community, volunteers, and Broomfield Emergency Command Center.

Broomfield Community Resource Guide: Connecting Broomfield residents and families to support services including: transportation, health care, child services, emergency assistance, and adult and senior services.

Communities that Care: The CTC initiative is a coalition of community volunteers who are working to prevent substance abuse among our youth.

BCSN connects Broomfield organizations, enhances opportunities to work together, and builds capacity for greater collaborative impact. Every month, BCSN gathers members of the service-based community to share information and work together. The individuals that attend serve nonprofits, government agencies, businesses, and religious institutions.
