Not Just Concrete : LIBIDO of Architecture Type | Thesis Design, 2021 Advisor | Yen-Yin, Lin Location | Taoyuan International Airport, Taiwan

Sex is a contradictory existence for conservative Orientals, putting aside the established shackles of today's society as if the organs are only attached to clothing, and nudity is just a neutral state.

When the body is no longer the only medium for arousing sexual desire, how to use the materials, symbols, and scales in architecture to stimulate the senses and arouse the desires in life experience.

Starting from the living space of one person, explore the loneliness and lust in the isolation hotel. When people are isolated and abstinent, their senses will be magnified. Through a series of material experiments, the spatial composition and arrangement make people "invisible" but can feel it, to receive other sensory experiences besides vision.

Emotional concept of LIBIDO There are abundant emotional elements behind erotic desires.

I disassemble the erotic desires, from the generation of desires to the satisfaction of desires, and the loss after climax.

These periodic emotional feelings are transformed by using spatial language and demonstrated through collages.

Disappointed - Corridor

Temptation - Diversion When the squares of different scales with blue concrete and red g l a s s a re d e e p l a y e r b y l a y e r, different angles and shades creat mystery to attract.

The bottomless corridor and the narrow space make people fearful. The wall reflects the weak light, which is the only hope, that leading to the end.

Secretly - Corner The crack always exposes those shy moments, and the traces of the roots on the wall seem to be the imprints of the past.

Curious - Window What is there on the other side of the hole? The iron net influence the transparency, and vision is hindered, you can only feel by hearing.

Jealousy - Stairs The opposition between the upper and lower levels. This space is surrounded by the wooden surface and the small of burnt wood, everything seems to be a w i re l e s s l o o p .

Conquest - Cylinder As metal layers follow the rhythm of the copper rods. When light falls, the shadows intersect, which is like a road to victory.

Expectation - Entrance Cement and glass overlap each other with light up and dark, making feeling annoied.

But is it an exit?

Or is it actually another entrance.

Arrogance - Ceiling The extension and the soft metal sheets are mixed in the cement with different thicknesses and densities. The free-form surface hanging in the air is a symbol of self-confidence.

Material Experiment In the ordinary elements, find the extraordinary proportional relationship, break the space rules of the established impression, and create the hesitation and pause when walking.

The combination of cement and different media, such as metal, paint, wood chips, plaster, etc., shows an unequal relationship of opposition.

Tr y i n g t o c h a n g e t h e transparency of cement in these experiments, redefine the lightness and weight of cement, and use these results for creating immersive spaces and experiences in architecture.

Taoyuan International Airport

Taoyuan International Airport is like an isolated island, through the design of "walls" and materials, reshaping open and closed spaces, and interpreting the tension situation of the repressed desire and the loneliness. Use these abstract concepts to discuss the new fable between the third field of airport design and the hotel.

Airports carry invisible boundaries between countries. As and fear spread, the distance between society and people widened. In the days of forced separation, the boundar become more and more obvious.

Shorten the distance people get to the isolated location an the excessive contact in the city. The isolation hotel is designed on the roof of the terminal, and people can arrive as they enter the country.

Design Strategy A hotel unit is made by a nine-square grid system, and nine different single rooms are created through parallel and vertical cutting.

The 3-meter squared unit is the psychological distance that people will be altered in this system. Through the staggered planes and the different distances of the floor heights, people can stream and overlap each other, creating opportunities for people to meet different neighbors, and paving the way for the climax of the story.

Change the route of the arrivals hall, make people can go directly to the isolation hotel after the immigration.

Adding the new architecture to the roof of the airport to highlight the strong contrast between freedom and restriction, and deepen the sense of loneliness.

The skylight and the new building structure follow the original airport roof truss, but also create a new rhythm and escape the lattice system.

" Home is where the heart is " What kind of ritual do you have in your home? Through the combination of material research and folding design, changing the ritual of my home, and creating a new relationship between architecture and family.

Under the basic cognition of urban architecture, transform the abstract concept into urban and find the personality of the city and construct new possibilities for the future city and architectural culture.

For me, the dining room is the most abundant emotional communication and the most memorable place in the whole family. Whether it is eating and chatting with family members, or gathering together with relatives and friends at home, the dining room is also a gathering place. Food connects the emotions between people.

Eating is a secondary thing. The time spent on psychological perception in the dining room is also the place that takes the longest time, not the living room or your own room.

Using the restaurant to change the sense of ritual at home, create a new declaration to break authority, realize the interface of equal relations, and open communication.

Analyze the personalities of family members, my brothers, my parents, and myself, with the restaurant as the core of the family, corresponding to their respective rooms. Using spatial pattern experiments to solve my insecurities, my brother’s emotionality, and my parents’ strength.

When the perspective of the space is cut and compressed, the observer can only imagine the entire brain after reassembly. At the end of my design, after adjusting the respective fields, when entering the public realm, multiple scales overlap, and transparency emerges.

In the Wai-Shuang River, there are abandoned Chinese Film Culture City, and the isolated university, putting the ritual of bath inside the conflict, contradiction and understanding, re-stitching this forgotten site, and regenerating new vitality.

City of mist - Balance Using the mist from the bath to blurred the boundary that was originally cut by the land bridge. Connecting the two sides of the fracture, and making the surrounding things merge into one.

Water Bridge - Rebirth Use the combination of water to inject the vitality of the campus into the abandoned buildings, revitalize the abandoned Chinese Film Cultural City, and reproduce the forgotten swimming pool next to the campus sports field, making this site prosperous.

II. Resort Hotel

Tamsui, as one of the first places in northern Taiwan where Westerners and Han nationality started activities, has a history of more than 300 years. These rich historical heritages include buildings and towns and residents left

by Westerners, Han nationalities, and Japanese.

The life and culture of the country make Tamsui an important historical and cultural field in northern Taiwan. Under the abovementioned rich natural and historical and cultural landscape, since the Japanese colonial period, Tamsui has become an excellent place for painters and artists to draw and paint.

The most fascinating thing is the gaps created between closely connected houses. Looking over, the sea is at the end of the road, these countless cracks create the unique appearance of Tamsui

Tamsui, as an important field in Taiwan's modern art creation, has become an important field to collect, collect, display, and become the possibility and necessity of the next generation of North Coast art creation site.

As a design base, Tamsui Elementary School has its special role and purpose. It has established an "art class" for nearly two decades, which is where children's art education and important experience in Tamsui area are accumulated. Each year's graduation exhibition has become an important event for the regional library.

Design Strategy The art museum acts as an intermediary space between the campus and the outside world on this site. The simple appearance and the volume of the concave-convex stacked inside form a great contrast with the appearance. The uneven stacking of the internal space enables different ethnic groups (students, residents, tourists) to be compatible in this place.

The second half of the art museum serves as a greenhouse. Through the series of green belts, the boundary between the interior and the exterior can penetrate but are independent of each other. The sky bridge also allows the external route to reach into the art gallery. Blur the boundary between the inside and the outside, but there is still a proper distance.

Design Strategy

First floor plan

The hotel with multiple functions is based on the concept of vertical urban space. The same functions are scattered on different floors, and private spaces and public spaces are interspersed and coexisted without being disturbed. Let nontenants also experience the diversity of space, while the privacy and safety of the tenants can also be taken into consideration.

The stacking and angle changes between each volume form the "cracks" of the old street buildings. No matter which floor you look at, you can see the sea-facing differently. The main housing space is on the side facing the sea, while the service commercial space should be on the street side so that the tenants can have the best enjoyment.
