About KARA
At KARA Family Resource Centre, we build meaningful relationships with clients, “meeting them where they are at” in their current life and family circumstance. We offer parenting education, family support, programs for children, early childhood developmental screening, and information and referral services KARA strives to create safe and inclusive experiences that support clients in their parenting and family life.

If you are coming from the East, you will pass St Lucy Catholic School on your right and then Dunluce School on your left. It will be your first right turn into the housing complex Dunluce IV

If you are coming from the West, you will pass a shopping strip mall on your left. Continue past the soccer field. You will then turn left into the housing complex called Dunluce IV

Our program staff are the heartbeat of KARA Family Resource Centre. Our team is a group of passionate and heart-led individuals seeking to deliver meaningful programs in our community. Get to know a little bit about our vibrant program staff.
A l y s s a Family Resource Support Worker

Alyssa is passionate when it comes to working with children and families. She believes in the importance of empowering families with tools and strategies to help support the success of their child On her own time, Alyssa enjoys the outdoors with her husband and daughter, and spending time with family and friends.
M a r e s a Family Resource Support Worker
Maresa has a passion for connecting with families at KARA and building that strong foundational relationship with the families and children She enjoys hearing the families stories and providing them with the support they need Outside of KARA, Maresa enjoys being outside in nature, going on hikes, and travelling to see new places.

Sara is passionate about early childhood development and supporting families through these important years Outside of KARA, Sara enjoys taking dance classes, cuddling up with her two cats, and connecting with friends and family.

Winifred values building lasting connections with families through dignity and respect She seeks to empower families with life skills and strategies that will ensure they enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Winifred is compassionate, caring, and loves adventures! Embracing change and trying new things is her way of life

Family Support WorkerXialing has a passion for helping families thrive She provides practical support to families facing challenging times. Her warm and non-judgmental approach focuses on building resilience. In her spare time, she loves playing games and travelling with her family.

Maria is passionate about connecting families and individuals to the resources they need to empower them to improve their lives. She loves meeting families inside of KARA and out in the community and cherishes each conversation with them. Maria is a tireless advocate for those without a voice, and she strives to assist those in need. Maria enjoys spending time with her family, boyfriend and friends, and very soon with her new pug Morgana.

Join us for this fun music and movement program! This program focuses on building musical literacy skills, developing gross motor skills, and connecting with our creativity. This program will introduce children to different dance styles and allow them to be creative in creating their own movement

Ages 6-12
In this program your children will develop the skills and confidence they need to form positive peer relationships This program was developed using the We Thinkers! curriculum Come join us in learning through play

All Ages
Making memories as a family is essential, and creating time to get together is always worth it. There is no easier way to build a happy family than spending quality time together! Come join us at our KARA location for family fun night events Each Tuesday we will have a wide range of activities for all ages - from Christmas in July to family board game night Please watch our social media to see what theme we will be hosting for family fun night each week

Conversation Cafe or Caregivers

Parents
Connect with other parents and caregivers over a cup of coffee or tea Discover commonalities and build friendships in this welcoming and afe space Our facilitator will gently guide a conversation on ubjects that often affect parents and caregivers Children can attend Bright Minds Adventures or Little Leaders

Children's Programs
Ages 0-2.5
With Amity House

Babies learn language through social literacy experiences, which is parents interacting with them using books These experiences also serve to associate books with parental affection, attention, and approval

Families are welcome to join us in the park to read a new story, sing songs, learn baby sign language, and connect with each other. Every family will receive a copy of each week’s storybook, the song of the day, a baby sign language sheet, and can apply for the Edmonton Public Library's "Ready, Set, Go" program

Calling all dads! This Positive Parenting Program is a curriculum based program that walks dads through the ins and outs of the early years Group members will work through 17 principles of parenting, building a tool box to nurture a healthy attachment and manage those tough parenting moments


Bring the whole family as a part of our Family Night at KARA. Growing Together, Friendship Factory, and Let's Move! can be enjoyed by other members of your family while dads attend Triple P Dinner is served at 5:00pm

This program offers a step-by-step guide to learning practical strategies and concrete skills for communicating effectively with children You will learn how to deal with your child's negative feelings, express anger without being hurtful, set firm limits, resolve family conflicts peacefully, and discover ways to promote selfdiscipline and responsibility without punishment

Growing Together
The first three years of life has the most rapid period of brain development and neuroscience tells us that it is attachment built through relationship that fuels the young brain. This program will provide practical, everyday activities and strategies you can use at home to help build a strong and healthy attachment with your child Parents will spend the first hour in a group setting while their child is being cared for and the children will join in for the last half hour!
