Sam the contrary Snowman By Peter Bangs

Once upon a time it was cold enough to snow and Molly made a snowman

She gave him a wooly hat and a bright stripey scarf to keep him warm

Big stones for his eyes

And a smiley row of little stones for his mouth

Bright red berries for buttons

And a carrot for his nose

But the snowman, whose name was Sam, didn’t like carrots

“Get me another nose!” he said

So Molly looked around and found a fizzy Drink bottle

“That makes me look silly. said Sam

So molly tried again and found an old wellington boot

“That’s too big!” said Sam the snowman

So Molly tried again and found an apple from her house

“Oh no this won’t do!” said Sam the snowman “It’s too red!” said Sam the snowman

So Molly tried again and this time she found her mum’s hammer

“It’s too heavy!” said Sam the snowman, “It makes my neck hurt!”

So Molly tried again, this time with one of her dad’s paint brushes

“That’s no good!” said Sam the snowman, “The hairs tickle me!”

So Molly tried again and found her mum’s mobile phone HELLO, HELLO...IS THERE ANYONE THERE? Karen?

“That’s no good!” said Sam the snowman, “I can’t have a nose that talks!”

So, Molly tried again with her dad’s drumstick

“That’s no good!” said Sam the snowman, “It’s too long and thin!”

Molly gave Sam the snowman her best cross look and said..

“I know something that will be absolutely perfect!

“”How’s that?” asked Molly

Sam the snowman looked at his nose and said

“That’s perfect!”

“Why didn’t you think of a carrot in the first place?”
