Life insurance is usually purchased for the protection provided to loved ones. However, permanent life insurance like universal life offers another worthwhile feature – the ability to accumulate tax-deferred cash value. Over the long term, the tax-deferral feature can lead to an accumulation which is often used to help fund a financially secure retirement.

As another option, you might wish to access the policy’s accumulated value for everyday needs that arise much sooner than retirement, such as updating your home or purchasing a car.

With Kansas City Life’s FlexWealth Advantage, you get the protection of permanent life insurance with the flexibility you need to handle your life’s changing demands. FlexWealth Advantage provides a stable, practical solution with easy-to-use policy features.

Flexibility FlexWealth Advantage Universal Life offers great flexibility. You are able to set your premium payment amount and schedule based on your objectives and preferred death benefit. Payment options include annual, semi-annual, quarterly and monthly as well as electronic funds transfer. You can increase or decrease premium payments within certain limits.

FlexWealth Advantage pays a death benefit as long as there is sufficient value in the policy to cover charges and costs. Death benefits are generally paid federal income tax-free to your beneficiary. To suit your goals, you have two death benefit options.

Option A offers what is called a level death benefit. The death benefit is equal to the specified amount. This level death benefit combines a decreasing net amount at risk (pure insurance protection) with an increasing accumulated value.

With Option B, your death benefit is equal to the specified amount plus the accumulated value. The net amount at risk is equal to the specified amount and remains level. This option helps to maximize death benefits. The death benefit increases as the accumulated value builds.

Your coverage amount is also responsive to your needs.

Specified amount increases must be at least $25,000. Increases are subject to additional charges, and each increase will have its own surrender charge schedule. Additional underwriting for increases may mean higher insurance charges. There is no charge for a specified amount decrease.

Policy riders let you further customize for different purposes, including the ability to access policy benefits to pay expenses associates with a terminal illness or nursing home confinement.

Control your money Instead of paying interest to a bank or lender for purchases such as a new car, home repairs or even vacations, with FlexWealth Advantage you can now borrow money from yourself. Through your policy’s FlexCash feature, you can loan yourself tax-advantaged money from your policy’s cash surrender value and in turn pay yourself back with interest – you become the bank!

Loans will reduce the policy cash surrender value and death benefit. In most cases, loans are free from current federal taxation.

Build accumulated value Your FlexWealth Advantage policy accumulates a cash value that you can use like any money you might normally borrow from a bank or lender. The accumulated value is the sum of your premium payments, net any policy charges plus the interest credited to your policy. And this value grows on a tax-deferred basis.

Credited Interest Rate Each month, your policy’s accumulated value earns interest. The rate of interest can change but is guaranteed to never fall below an annual rate of 3 percent.

How FlexWealth Advantage works Pay premiums.

Loan repayments are deducted and the remaining amount is applied to the accumulated value.

Monthly deduction is taken from the accumulated value. Charges vary.

Interest is credited to the accumulated value.

At death, the beneficiary receives the death benefit minus any outstanding policy loans. Death benefit is received tax-free.

Be your own bank With FlexCash, accessing your policy’s accumulated value is an easy process. First determine the loan amount, interest and duration. A quick phone call is all that’s needed to request amounts up to $10,000. Or simply fax your FlexCash request.

You select your loan amount which determines the additional monthly payment.

Your electronic funds transfer can be automatically increased to reflect this additional payment. By applying the entire payment to your loan, your loan can be paid off quickly with all remaining payment going directly to your policy’s accumulated value. To make your policy perform even better, beginning in the policy’s third year loans are available at a low 1-percent net cost – guaranteed!
