KEITH D. CHRISTENSEN OCT. 11, 1956 — MARCH 21, 2022 Keith Douglas Christensen, of Kief, North Dakota formerly of Stanchfield, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 21, 2022. He was 65 years old. He was born Oct. 11, 1956, in Cambridge, son of Rueben and Margaret (Erickson) Christensen. He grew up and attended country school near Braham and graduated from Braham High School in 1975. His passion was working the land, and he started farming from an early age on his family farm located in Maple Ridge. He and his father farmed together until his dad’s retirement, when he then took over. He was a licensed/bonded grain dealer and truck driver. He met many wonderful people along the way trucking and even saved lives on some of his many adventures. He loved spending time in his shop and never shied away from a project big or small. Even when it meant making something from next to nothing. He was a mentor/father figure to many. For him, actions spoke louder than words. He wasn’t afraid to put himself in harms way for what was right. In 2003, he moved to North Dakota and spent the next almost 20 years living out his passion along side his son, Brent, in the field and shop. He loved animals and his best friends were four legged. He loved riding his horses and motorcycle. He enjoyed target shooting and loved to learn about history, whether it was local, Indian, family history or just history in general. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Diane Allen. He was welcomed into heaven by his special friend, Cole Messer. He is survived by his son, Brent (Kassandra) Christensen with grandchild due in September, Kief; step-son, Dustin (Amanda and three grandchildren) Stanowski, Mitchell, South Dakota; second mother, Iris Christensen, Braham; brother, David (Marion) Christensen, St. Cloud; brother-in-law, Ron (Eileen) Allen, Indianapolis, Indiana; and many other family and friends. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Maple Ridge Free Church (801 401st Ave, NW, Stanchfield, MN 55080). Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Drake, North Dakota. “If you run your life with what your heart says, your head can rest easy.” -KC

SNG Services Gunsmithing & Tool Sharpening

SNG Services

SNG Services is a gunsmith service, licensed firearms dealer, and full-service tool sharpening shop located just south of Mora, Minnesota. Owned and operated by Kanabec County resident Shawn Paul, SNG Services is a local company with a nationwide footprint.

• Repair and customization of firearms • Sale of new and used firearms • Consignment sales

One of a few full-time gunsmiths in Minnesota, Paul has worked in gunsmithing since the 1980s. He likens the workings of a firearm to those of a vehicle. You bring your car to a professional mechanic when the transmission needs to be rebuilt, he says; and when a firearm needs service or repair, you should seek out the same level of care and expertise. As an experienced firearms mechanic with more than 30 years’ experience, Paul provides a level of excellence that can’t be found many other places.

• Insurance appraisals • Sporting goods • Ammo sales • Hunting equipment and accessories

Paul has a nationwide reputation, and is often consulted by firearms professionals across the country to fix and solve problems. He raised his family in the Mora area, however, and is committed to serving the community long-term. He treats customers as friends, and shows the same care for their firearms that he does for his own. Paul values his reputation and guarantees his work, believing that “if it can’t be done right it shouldn’t be done at all.”

• Large in-shop inventory • Firearms transfers

SNG Services also provides tool-sharpening services. From drill bits to lawnmower blades to scissors and knives, Paul can hone just about anything with a blade. “I can sharpen everything but your wit!” he laughs. If you own a gun that hasn’t been fired in a while or needs repair, bring it to SNG Services for a full cleaning, inspection, and test fire.

Spring Fix Up Make safety an important part of home cleaning

Safety may not be on the minds of people when they gather equipment and cleaning supplies to clean their homes, but even seemingly innocuous items can be dangerous. The National Safety Council warns that accidents and deaths often occur when least expected - including when doing chores around the house. The online safety advocate SafeWise says that more than 160,000 Americans die as a result of an accident every year, and household injuries account for 75 percent of those deaths. It’s important to be careful when cleaning around the house, and part of that caution includes recognizing where hazards may be lurking. Here are ways to prevent cleaning and organizing accidents. Never mix cleansers

Cleaning chemicals are often effective because they employ bases or acids to produce cleaning actions. By themselves, many of these products are generally safe to use provided users adhere to the usage instructions and precautions. However, when mixed together, certain cleaning products can be extremely hazardous. According to Velocity EHS, an environmental, health, safety, and sustainability advisement company, users should never mix products containing acids and bases. Common cleaning products containing acids include tub and tile cleaners, vinegar and mold removers. Products containing bases include, bleaches, glass cleaners, and drain cleaners. Mixing these products can produce toxic gases, intense heat or even explosions.

ladder steady. Wear nonskid shoes and go slowly. Do not climb on furniture or stack items to reach high spots like top shelves, as this can create a precarious situation. Lift with care Moving furniture or rearranging storage boxes can strain the back and other muscles. Use proper lifting techniques, which include lifting with the legs while keeping the back straight. If the item is too heavy, wait and ask for help. Wear masks and safety gear Whether dusting off the ceiling fan, cleaning out the crawlspace or removing debris from gutters and downspouts, protect the eyes, hands and lungs by wearing the right gear. Safety goggles, durable gloves and a dust mask are must-have cleaning supplies. Remove supplies promptly The NSC says about 10 people die from drowning every day in the United States. Children between the ages of 1 and 4 are at greatest risk. Do not leave cleaning buckets filled with water unattended, and make sure to clean up any supplies used right after cleaning to prevent injuries. Cleaning and maintenance keep homes looking great. Homeowners should always keep safety in mind when cleaning around the house.

Falls are a major contributor to home injuries. Be especially careful when climbing ladders, and do not lean too far to either side. If possible, have someone hold the

When planning spring landscapes, homeowners should always group plants with similar water needs together. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, grouping plants with similar water needs together helps to conserve water, which can be an especially useful strategy if or when drought restrictions go into effect in summer. Homeowners also can embrace additional strategies to landscape with water conservation in mind. For example, aerating soil helps to improve water flow to plants’ roots and reduces water runoff, helping to ensure that plants get all of the water they need while reducing the likelihood that homeowners will have to use excessive amounts of water to keep plants healthy. In addition, using low-water-using types of grass can help homeowners who live in areas prone to drought conserve water while still maintaining lush, green lawns.

Certain home improvement projects are more complex than others. Projects that involve working with gas lines are among the most complicated and risky undertakings, and even seasoned do-it-yourselfers are urged to leave such tasks to certified professionals. According to Angi, the average cost to move a gas line is between $15 and $25 per linear foot, and homeowners can expect to pay an additional $1 to $10 per linear foot for pipe materials. A natural gas plumber can install, extend and repair natural gas lines and ensure that the project is completed safely, on time and within homeowners’ budgets. Angi notes that the average cost to move a gas line is between $250 and $750 for the whole project. However, if a buried line must be excavated, that cost could run into the thousands of dollars.

Spring Fix Up

2022

The different ways to repair a driveway Asphalt driveways do not last forever. Over time, weather and general usage can degrade the driveway surface, resulting in cracks, pitting and more. Ultraviolet rays, salt and automotive fluids also can affect the appearance and functionality of a driveway. An unsightly driveway can adversely affect curb appeal and resale potential. Homeowners have to consider various factors when it comes to repairing driveways. They may have the option of getting the driveway resurfaced, resealed or repaved, and each project is unique.

Resurfacing According to the home improvement price comparison site Kompare It, resurfacing is simpler and faster than installing a new asphalt driveway. With resurfacing, any cracks are filled in to create an even base. Then a new layer of asphalt is applied over the existing one. That new layer can range in thickness from 1.5 to 3 inches. A heavy rolling machine will then smooth and flatten the layers together. If the driveway has minor pitting or cracking, then resurfacing can be a cost-effec-

tive strategy, as it may be a $3,000 to $6,000 job as opposed to $5,000 to $10,000 with repaving.

Resealing Resealing a driveway, also called sealcoating, is another repair strategy. HGTV says resealing can be a do-it-yourself project. Resealing helps the driveway last longer. The driveway needs to be clean and dry, with holes and cracks filled prior to sealcoating. Start at the far edge of the driveway and seal that area by “cutting-in” by hand for a neat edge. Afterward the rest of the driveway can be sealed using a squeegee or broom. This project can be completed within two or three days if no precipitation is forecast.

structure says the new asphalt driveway can vary in thickness between two and six inches, depending on budget and need. The contractor also can advise if full-depth asphalt application or an aggregate base is practical. Assessing the condition of the driveway can give homeowners a better idea about which type of repair project best suits their property.

Repaving A project best left to professionals, repaving typically involves the removal of an existing driveway and the installation of a new one. The sub-grade layer is essential in the process for a smooth look. Contractors also will assess soil and grading when doing work. The construction blog Main Infra-
