Fatality on Pokegama Lake Road: Pine County Chief Deputy Scott Grice confirmed a fatality occurred on Pokegama Lake Road the evening of Thursday, March 3. Grice said early Monday that the victim is Ronald Weber, 64, and the incident is still under investigation. The Minnesota State Patrol is performing a reconstruction of the accident. 2. Why drivers shouldn’t use cruise control in the winter: On icy, snow-covered or wet roads, if your wheels lose traction, the cruise control will continue to accelerate, causing the vehicle to skid. MARCH 19 PINE COUNTY HORTICULTURE DAY HAS CHANGED Due to recent changes in CDC COVID guidelines, face masks are recommended, but not required at the 18th Annual Pine County Horticulture Day at Pine City High School on Saturday, March 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is because CDC COVID guidelines for Pine County dropped from High (Orange) to Low (Green) on March 4. Nationwide authority on Lyme Disease Dr. Elizabeth Maloney will be the keynote speaker at 9:00 a.m. on “What Everyone Should Know About Lyme Disease.” She acts as a consultant to government agencies and private organizations on tick-borne diseases. As a thank you for their dedication, Pine County

health care workers are invited to her presentation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at no charge. Other topics to be covered at Horticulture Day include Flowers for Pollinators, Japanese Beetles, Trees and Shrubs for a Changing Climate, Cool Weather Garden Crops and Fall Planting Spring Bulbs.
