She will also discuss “One Liners and Keeping Cool.” Come to this FREE event ready to learn new strategies and information that you will be able to take home and begin implementing right away. CEU’s are available This workshop is being held at Fairview School. Free childcare is available, but you must pre-register. Please register by Tuesday Nov. 6th. Questions, call 320-679-6257.

Jason was born and raised in Mora. He and his wife, Amber (Glassing), have chosen to raise their three children Alexis, Aidan, and Bella in Mora as well. In July, at the age of 31, Jas was diagnosed with an aggressive thyroid cancer. He underwent an intensive surgery in August to remove not only his thyroid but also a 6cm mass and many lymph nodes in his neck. When biopsied, more were found to be cancerous than not. As the sole supporter for his family, Jas has been unable to maintain his regular work schedule since May and is finding it increasingly challenging to make ends meet. Please take part in this benefit to help Jas and his family with their daily expenses as well as the rising cost of his medical needs. Cash donations for Jason will also be accepted at People’s National Bank 45 N Union • Mora, MN 55051 • (320) 679-3100 For silent auction donations or more information call (320) 209-1941

Lester Pervin (Perky) Hushagen died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 in Mora. He was 92 years old. He was born on April 17, 1920 in Berwyn, Alberta, Canada to Anton John and Nora (Odegaard) Hushagen. He was the eldest of 15 children. When he was 3 years old the family moved to the Erskine area where they farmed. He graduated from Erskine High School. He met Elenore Karleen Caldwell of Platte, S.D. during the war when they were both working at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. They were united in marriage on Jan. 1, 1944. He served in the Navy from 1944-1946. After the war he attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis on the GI Bill where he studied mechanical engineering. After the university he and his growing family moved to Mora where he worked as an engineer for the Blaw Knox Company. His work installing milk drying plants took him around the United States and to many foreign countries including Spain, France and Holland. He started his own metal manufacturing company, HON Metfab, in 1967 in Mora. He and his wife were very successful with the business and retired in 1987 whereupon the business was purchased by their son, Gary. Upon retirement the couple moved to Lake Lida outside of Pelican Rapids. During their retirement they travelled extensively in their motorhome. They both loved

to travel, traversing the entire continental United States and much of Canada. They especially enjoyed their winters in Texas in the later years. Woodworking was a passion for him. An accomplished craftsman, he created beautiful furniture, whimsical hand carvings and artistic wood creations. “Lester never met a piece of wood he didn’t like.” Gary Hushagen. He was an avid hunter. He and his wife hunted throughout the mountains in the west, especially enjoying elk hunting in Colorado. In 2010 they moved back to the Mora area where they took up residence at St. Clare Living Community of Mora. He was preceded in death by parents, Anton John and Nora Hushagen; brothers, Arvid, Raymond and Orville and sister, Orpha Iseminger. He is survived by wife, Elenore Karleen (Caldwell) Hushagen of Mora; daughters, Carol (Jerry) Sullivan of Bellvue, Colo., Sonya (Frank) Barscewski of Bakersfield, Calif., Wanda (Albert) Goodin of Biloxi, Miss., Ann (Glen Thommen) Hushagen of Salem, Ore. and Linda (Fred) Harding of Maiden Rock, Wis.; son, Gary (Carol) Hushagen of Mora; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Linstroth of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Verna Ellsworth of San Diego, Calif., Marlice Gilmore of Issaquah, Wash., Inez Hushagen of Camano Island, Wash., Naomi Moe of Chanhassen, Iola Person of Owensboro, Ky. and JoAnne Lachelt of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers, Berton of Fergus Falls, Arlow of Fergus Falls and Norris of Stanchfield. Cremation services provided by the Cremation Society of Minnesota. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: ChildFund International, Gillette Children’s Hospital and/or St. Clare Living Community of Mora for staff development.

IN MEMORY JOHN DEAN WESTLING FEB. 28, 1980-NOV. 2, 2002 Ten years have passed. Ten years of November winds and scarlet, gold and blue sunsets. When we whisper your name we hear you and remember the laughter, the fun and all the good times we shared. Such are the memories locked in the hearts you touched forever. Sadly missed by The Westling, Kimm and Kaibel family But Not Forgotten

Karen Elling Karen Elling of Mora died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at her home in Mora. She was 53 years old. She was born to LeRoy and Irene Elling on July 4, 1959 in Minneapolis. She worked at Lifetouch N.S.S. for many years; then Team Industries, where she met the love of her life, Steve. Together they lived in their home in Mora until her death. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Birdwatching and fishing were her two favorite pastimes. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her significant other, Steve Ammerman of Mora; sons, Kyle (Michele) Elling-Tatro and their son, Matthew of Silver Bay and Keith Tatro and his son Thomas of Mora; daughter, Karissa Tatro of Mora; sisters, Lynn Elling (Craig Nystrom) of Mora, Mary (Dan) Weidner and family of Mora and Cathy Ann (Dave) Felde and family of Ogilvie; aunt, Alverna Blaese as well as other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Pastor Russell Palmer officiating. Music was provided by Karla Fuller and KaeLee Flettre. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by DresserMethven Funeral Home.

THANK YOU Thank you to my church, community, friends, neighbors and family for your prayers, cards, letters and calls of support during my recent cancer journey. This past June I was told I had a large tumor that had destroyed a kidney and was growing into the vein that carried blood supply to my heart. Because of the prognosis and type of cancer, pain control was decided on. At the urging of family I got a second opinion and had major surgery at Mayo. While a cure was not obtained, surgeons believe surgery has extended my life. Praise the Lord. E. “Bud” Blesi, Sr. KANABEC COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEMORIAL FUND Memorials have recently been received by the Kanabec County Historical Society in memory of Bob Felland, Fred and Ruth Rezabek, Hans F. All donations are acknowledged in a special Memorial book located at the Kanabec History Center. Contribution envelopes are available at all county funeral homes and the Kanabec History Center located at 805 West Forest Avenue in Mora, or memorials can be sent to the Kanabec History Center, P.O. Box 113, Mora, MN 55051. For further information, contact the Kanabec History Center at 320-679-1665.

THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who remembered me in many thoughtful acts of love while a patient at FirstLight and St. Clare’s Rehab Center. Thanks to Dr. Holein, the staff and nurses for my care and to the rehab nurses. Thanks for all the cards, visits, flowers, gifts, phone calls, and the many answered prayers. I’ve been truly blessed. May God bless each of you for your kindness. Phyllis Bergren THANK YOU Thank you to all my family and friends for the flowers, gifts, cards, welcome back supper, prayers and visits after my surgery. Special thanks to my daughter Dawn and the Singletons for all their help. Love and prayers to you all. Rita Tharp
