Jesse Ray Voight, of Braham, died on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at the United Hospital in St. Paul. He was 48 years old. He was born on Nov. 9, 1973, in Mora, to Joyce (Voight) and Robert Mattson. He grew up in Braham, graduating from Braham High School in 1992. He enlisted in the United States Navy but was given a medical discharge before completing basic training. He returned home to Braham where for the next few years he worked for several different local companies as a welder. In 1998 he began working side by side with his dad as an electrician in his business, Bob’s Electric. In March of 2016, he began working at East Central Energy in Braham, and he loved his current job as a meter service technician. In September of 1991, he met the love of his life, Jackie Stigen. They made their home on a farm north of Braham where they raised beef cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Morgan, on Jan. 29, 2007. He loved riding dirt bike, a passion he passed on to his daughter, and together they created “Voight Racing.” They enjoyed riding together and traveling around Minnesota competing with their Moto family. He loved the outdoors. Hunting for deer, pheasant, turkey, geese and squirrel were some of his favorite times. In recent years, he was a member of the Grasston Lions. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother, Joyce; and sister-in-law, Tammy Voight. He is survived by his soulmate, Jackie Stigen; daughter, Morgan Voight; father, Robert “Bob” Mattson; siblings, Jamie Mattson, Jennifer (Fred) Lundin and Jason Voight; mother-in-law, Maxine (Mike) Silva; father-in-law, Richard “Dick” (Susan) Stigen; Jackie’s siblings, Jodi Michalek, Paul Stigen, Sam Stigen, Anna Stigen, Michael (Missy) Silva, Rocky (Amanda) Silva, Shane (Jamey) Silva and Miles (Jamie) Silva; many other relatives and countless friends. A memorial service was held on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at the Braham Event Center. Pastor Julie Beck officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Morgan’s college fund. Arrangements are by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.

VERN OLSON FEB. 6, 1956 — JAN. 7, 2022

Vern Olson died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at St. Clares in Mora. He was 65 years old. He was born Feb. 6, 1956, in Saint Paul and spent his life in Minnesota. He was a generous man who loved being a grandpa. He enjoyed the simple things in life, such as fishing, motorcycles, hanging out having coffee at the Sportsmen’s Café, watching the new Mora high school being built and going for a drive on his motorcycle or in the car. For the past 10 plus years he was the prep cook at Hardees in Mora. His co-workers enjoyed working with him and especially enjoyed the surprise chocolate treats he would bring them on occasion. He would talk to everyone and made an impression on people wherever he would go. He will be forever loved and missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Shirley (Cushing) Olson; brothers, Dennis and Bernard “Tom” Olson; and sister, Maureen “Sissy” Menge. He is survived by his life-partner, Carol Lindquist; stepdaughters, Brandi (Darin) Strogen and Jenni Lachney; eight grandchildren; and brother, William (Kathleen) Olson of St. Paul. There will be a celebration of life from 2-4 p.m. on May 21, 2022, at Kids Kingdom Park in Mora, MN. Arrangements provided by Methven Funeral and Cremation Services, Dresser Methven Chapel, Mora, MN, www.methvenfuneralhome.com.

Dental Care Basics 9 common causes of toothaches No matter how smoothly past visits have gone, many individuals still want to avoid a trip to their dentist's office. But should a toothache arise, only a dentist can get to the root of the issue. Toothaches run the gamut from mild to throbbing to unbearably painful. Toothaches may be temporary, but many persist for some time. Here's a look at nine reasons for toothaches. · Orthodontic appliances: A common cause of discomfort, orthodontic devices can cause toothaches. The pain is most noticeable immediately after an adjustment, but it may ease as the mouth grows accustomed to the wires or pressure. · Tooth sensitivity: Despite being hard, teeth actually are porous. on the outside of teeth to wear away. Exposure of the inner layer of the tooth, called dentin, to the air or foods and beverages may result in pain. · Sinus congestion: Sometimes teeth aren't to blame for mouth pain. Pain that persists in the upper teeth only on both sides of the face may occur due to sinusitis. It often is preceded by nasal congestion. · TMJ: Temporomandibular disorders can cause tooth pain. TMJ may result from injury or trauma to the jaw. Tooth grinding, also known as bruxism, can cause tooth pain. · Impacted wisdom teeth: Wisdom teeth are a dental milestone that takes place between the ages of 17 and 21. Wisdom teeth actually are third molars, and are given the name because they come in at a mature age, according to the American Dental Association. If there isn't enough space for them, wisdom teeth can cause Parents wrestling with their kids’ cando attitude and if it’s wise to allow them to brush their teeth unassisted can familiarize themselves with certain guidelines to determine their youngsters’ readiness. According to Scripps Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, most kids are at least six years old before they have developed the finesse and dexterity to handle a toothbrush in a manner that will effectively remove plaque. Dentists also may ask if the child can tie his or her own shoes, which can serve as a barometer of readiness to wield a toothbrush without assistance. Pediatricians and pediatric dentists recommend that children visit a dentist as soon as a child’s first tooth starts to appear. This also is when

When molars do not fully erupt, the result is impacted wisdom teeth, which can be very painful. · Damaged fillings or dental sealants: When fillings or sealants come out, vulnerable parts of the teeth become exposed. This can result in pain. · Tooth damage: Dental caries, or cavities, can cause toothache, as can tooth abscesses and tooth fractures. · Gum disease: Gum disease may start with mild inflammation and then become more severe if it is left untreated. The inflammation also may affect the ligament that attaches teeth to the socket in the jaw. This ligament has many nerve fibers. When inflamed, the nerves can get fired up and cause pain. · Food: A kernel of popcorn wedged between teeth or a sharp piece of pizza crust that gets lodged behind a molar can cause pain if not addressed. parents should begin to clean their children’s teeth. As a child ages, the natural proclivity to want to take charge of brushing teeth takes hold. The child may not yet have the manual dexterity to brush alone, but parents can encourage the child to brush and then go over the teeth as a “double check.” This helps foster independence while also ensuring teeth are fully cleaned. Flossing may require even more dexterity than brushing, but it is essential for sloughing off plaque that accumulates between teeth and below the gum line, according to Parents magazine. Moms and dads can introduce their children to pre-threaded Y-shaped flossing tools, which are easier to handle than loose floss.

SNG Services Gunsmithing & Tool Sharpening

SNG Services

SNG Services is a gunsmith service, licensed firearms dealer, and full-service tool sharpening shop located just south of Mora, Minnesota. Owned and operated by Kanabec County resident Shawn Paul, SNG Services is a local company with a nationwide footprint.

• Repair and customization of firearms • Sale of new and used firearms • Consignment sales

One of a few full-time gunsmiths in Minnesota, Paul has worked in gunsmithing since the 1980s. He likens the workings of a firearm to those of a vehicle. You bring your car to a professional mechanic when the transmission needs to be rebuilt, he says; and when a firearm needs service or repair, you should seek out the same level of care and expertise. As an experienced firearms mechanic with more than 30 years’ experience, Paul provides a level of excellence that can’t be found many other places.

• Insurance appraisals • Sporting goods • Ammo sales • Hunting equipment and accessories

Paul has a nationwide reputation, and is often consulted by firearms professionals across the country to fix and solve problems. He raised his family in the Mora area, however, and is committed to serving the community long-term. He treats customers as friends, and shows the same care for their firearms that he does for his own. Paul values his reputation and guarantees his work, believing that “if it can’t be done right it shouldn’t be done at all.”

• Large in-shop inventory • Firearms transfers

SNG Services also provides tool-sharpening services. From drill bits to lawnmower blades to scissors and knives, Paul can hone just about anything with a blade. “I can sharpen everything but your wit!” he laughs. If you own a gun that hasn’t been fired in a while or needs repair, bring it to SNG Services for a full cleaning, inspection, and test fire.

Come in as a Customer... Leave as a Friend!

Dedicated to Shooters and their Sport! Business Hours: Mon. - Fri. 8am-5:30pm, Sat. 8am-5pm After Hours By Appointment

• Pre- and post-season cleanings and safety checks • Full line of sharpening services for home & commercial users • All work guaranteed
