After all the sleepless nights, hard work, I am very pleased to introduce the new issue of DI MODA. As always thanks to the talented photographers and their teams the fourth edition has come true. As an artist of the month this time I have Myriam El Jarari, a young talented fashion Illustrator from Tou- louse, France. You can read more about it starting on page 18. Tell us about your journey into art? First of all, I’d like to thank you for choosing me as artist of the month for your magazine. What could I say about my journey into art? I’ve always loved drawing, for as long as I can remember. Even before I started school, I loved to color and I was always very serious and diligent. Like all children, I also loved watching cartoons and I used to tell my parents I wanted to work at Disney! Throughout my time in school, I had great grades in art and all of the manual subjects. I guess it’s always been in my blood. That’s what convinced me to undertake studies in a field in which drawing was important. After I graduated from high school, I started studying graphic design. It’s helped me a lot to define my skills and dede velop my artistic curiosity. So, I’m a professional graphic designer but I keep drawing at the same time because after all these years, I finally know what I was meant to do: work as a fashion illustrator, for magazines in particular. In addition, in 2012, I collaborated with a friend who is also a graphic designer on my first exhibition called “ICONS” where I presented a series of portraits of various fashion, music and cinema celebrities. How would you describe your style? what makes you unique? I’m not sure I’m the best person to talk about my style. I am very detail-oriented, I like my drawings to be as precise as possible. I’d say my style is very realistic. As for it being unique, I don’t really know what to say. I think my personality shows through the way I draw: I love details, almost to the point of obsession. I love to stick to reality as much as I can. It may be reassuring to me, who knows? I am not a very imaginative person to begin with so this is a challenge I will have to take up sometime. What are you doing at the moment? I’m currently working on a couple of things at the same time. I work as an in-house graphic designer for a Toulouse company. I’m preparing my second exhibition which will open at the end of 2013 in Toulouse. And I’ve also started collaborations with a few fashion magazines. The world of fashion is a great inspiration to me, as well as cinema and pop music. I’m still a huge fan of Disney productions. As an art form, it’s quite different from what I do but I’m always fascinated by the perfection of 3D animation. I also discover a lot of artists on the web. I can spend hours browsing from one site to the next, and when I come across illustrators I like, I jot down their names and websites in a little book I have. I also save a lot of images on my computer, to create a sort of “inspiration gallery”. I also buy a lot of illustration books or books about artists, I love those. Among my favorite artists are: David Despau (for his skillset), Antonio Soares (for his fashion illustrations), David Downton (for his art), Cédric Rivrain (for his realistic art and fashion drawings), Kelly Smith (for her realistic drawings and professionalism)…
