Good News!

A couple of our South African students recently received great news: 



Edric Wenhold received his NCAA Early Academic Qualifier status. This implies that he has met the NCAA high school requirements, and is eligible to play sport at an US university. Edric home-schooled all his high school years, and just need to finalize his Senior year!

One of Homelife Academy’s 2020 graduates received confirmation of acceptance to the University of Pretoria’s Engineering Department, and will commence with Industrial Engineering this year.

She too was homeschooled throughout her high school years.

South African 2021 School Calendar & important dates For those who considers the SA School Calendar in your planning, find the latest amended 2021 school calendar herewith. A reminder to please bookmark the following dates in your diary for 2021: For our US calendar families1:

 1 May: Registration for current academic year is closed, and all outstanding payments are due  15 June: Reporting deadline for the Spring Semester (Semester 2’s Grades & Attendance). And Enter your Educational Plan for new year to expedite your registration  1-15 July: Re-enrollment / Enrollment for the 2021/2022 academic year  1 Aug: US Academic Calendar and Fall Semester begins, and registration deadline  1 Sept: Date of withdrawal: For families who have not met the 1 Aug registration deadline. A $50 reinstatement fee may apply  15 Sept: Reporting deadline for the Summer Semester (Grades & Attendance), and Graduation deadline for 2021  15 Dec – 3 Jan: Kairos Academy Offices are closed  25 Dec – 1 Jan ’22: HLA Offices are closed

Notice for our Grade 10+ learners No standardized testing is included in the HLA Diploma.

That being said, if you want to attend a university/college, our Matriculation Board and/or the universities (both local and international) might require some sort of standardized testing as part of their exemption and application/merit processes.* Good news is that both the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT) are readily accessible to our South African students. These ~3-hour tests measures a student’s knowledge and ability in English, Mathematics, and Science application, and can be taken more than once.

Further great news is that the US College Boards recently announced that SAT’s have recently simplified there tests, by: 1) Removing SAT subject tests (still available until June 2021 internationally) 2) Removing the optional essay portion from the SAT. * For us in South Africa, the Matriculation Board uses your SAT/ACT score with your Diploma and Transcript for university exemption purposes. And in the US, colleges/universities use the SAT / ACT for both admission and merit scholarships purposes.
