AORERE PROGRESS UPDATE April 2021

AORERE COMMUNITY BBQ On 27 March the Mangere Development Team and Piritahi put on a barbeque at the grounds of the Taeaofou I Puaseisei Pre-school at 37 Winthrop Way to catch up with nearby neighbours.

The kids were happily entertained on the bouncy castle whilst the adults caught up on the latest Aorere news and information and enjoyed coffee from the coffee van.

Between 10am – 1pm, locals had the opportunity to meet with our development team and Piritahi to ask questions about the civil works currently underway in the neighbourhood and the development overall.

We were also excited to share the plans for the new park between Winthrop Way and Mayflower Close and the new road that will provide an important link between these two streets (find out more on the next page).

New park and road We’re pleased to share the news that a new park will be a key feature of the development happening in Aorere, which p Way ro will provide more greenspace and an important link betweenWinth Winthrop Way and Mayflower Close. This park has come about thanks to community feedback on what was ‘missing’ from the neighbourhood, and will become a ‘backyard park’ for tamariki living nearby.

We’ll also be looking to create a new road from Courtney Crescent down to Mayflower Close and a new road connecting Mayflower Close to Henwood Road - to provide better connection, ease congestion and open up access for residents.

On completion of future stages the new park and roads will form part of a pedestrian focussed ‘link’ from north to south through the neighbourhood.

We’re also looking to create a new road between Henwood Road and Mayflower Close. Again, this is based on community feedback and will help improve neighbourhood access, particularly to Mayflower Close. Our plans to add these new roads will include safety ‘traffic calming’ measures, such as speedbumps or traffic islands to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety.

We look forward to bringing you progress updates on this work, which will occur during Stage 2, and to seeing local whānau benefit from the park and improved road connections.

CIVILS UPDATE As you will be aware, Stage 1 civil works are well underway in the neighbourhood as part of Kāinga Ora’s delivery of more warm, dry homes to the area. These works are part of the preparation to get sites ready and put the supporting infrastructure in place before construction of the new homes begins.

This major infrastructure work involves upgrading water supply, stormwater and wastewater pipes, and where necessary upgrading the road surface and kerbs in the neighbourhood, to better serve the needs of existing and future residents.

Temporary space, before future park We will engage with the community through the design process for the new park closer to the time of construction. In the meantime, we’ll be putting a ‘temporary space/active connection’ in its place over the coming months, which will provide pedestrian access between the two streets and an open space for public use and community engagement.

Although these upgrades are necessary and important, we are very aware that the machinery and equipment used to carry out the work can be noisy and disruptive, particularly at a time when more families may have been at home.

If you are concerned about accessing your home through the construction activity in the street, we encourage you to please speak with our site staff. They are there to help, and are happy to support safe access to and from home for you and your whānau.

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER FOR AORERE

What does your role involve?

My role is to know a little bit about everything in the property development process, pulling together all the pieces of the puzzle to enable developments which meet the needs of the wider community.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy learning from others in the team who are experts in the different parts of the development process and being involved in projects which will have a significant impact on Mangere.

What do love most about the Mangere community?

I grew up and still live here (in the area we call Mangere West) so I definitely feel at home in Mangere. I think that comes down to appreciating and sharing the same values as the community.

From a development perspective I love how well connected Mangere is to the rest of Auckland and the potential it has to provide a range of housing options on a large scale.

What were you doing previously?

A very similar role but spread out working on a number of small to medium-scale projects around Auckland.

What do you like doing outside of the office?

Spending time with my family.
